This one picks up exactly where the first one left off. It introduces the character of Misa Amane, who ends up obtaining a Death Note herself, as well as the eyes of a Shinigami (which, for those who forgot, let you see a person’s name and life span above their head), she came by these by making a deal with a Shinigami named Rem (who had a female voice in the Anime, but a male voice in this movie (weird huh?)).
Misa ends up falling in love with Light. So in love that she would be willing to do anything for her. So they team up to try and bring down the detective, L.
In the Manga/Anime, Misa is a complete ditz. But in this movie, the ditz factor is toned down significantly, and it makes for a better performance then in the show.
It's in this movie that a lot of changes were made to characters and story elements. For example: A character named Kiyomi Takada (who was in the first part of the Anime briefly and prominently featured in the second part) actually replaces an evil business organization that gets a hold of the death note. There are no successors to L. And the biggest changes are made in the ending, which is completely different from the Manga/Anime, although it does have more in common with the Manga, but with its own unique and shocking twist.
And again the CG effects for Ryuk and Rem are great, the music is good, and the story is just as thrilling and exciting as the last film. If ya like the Manga/Anime, I guarantee that you will love this film.
Final Rating: 9/10
