Name: TempestNickname(s): [Hasn't picked any up yet... but Thames is probably a default.]
Age (Appearance Wise): 17
Age (Actual): Tempest isn't sure of his exact age, but he is very, very young.
Personality:
- Well-meaning: Tempest is here with good intentions. Although young and inexperienced, he has an overall desire to help and to make friends when first meeting people. Later encounters are conducted in much the same way: Tempest is lonely and eager to please. He has an overwhelming desire to be liked by those around him.
Tries hard: Tempest puts one-hundred-percent into everything he does. He is a child who learns by doing, and is eager to rack up experiences. Everything must be attempted at least once, just to see if he likes it or not. He is patient with lengthy tasks so long as encouragement or incentive is provided, but is less likely to bother with activities he sees as thankless. If he fails, he will try again and again until he is satisfied or else discouraged. To Tempest, a day when he does not fully exhaust himself is a day wasted.
Fickle: Just like the turning of the tides or the shifting of the wind, Tempest's mood can turn sour at the drop of a pin. Rejected friendship, repeated failure, or coming off on the wrong end of an argument can all put him in a stormy state of mind. His general enthusiasm is tempered with periods of brooding and snippery. Tempest has a definite capacity for vindictiveness: a person who he believes has spurned him will be spurned right back and pointedly ignored. The simplest way to deal with problems is to ignore them, and let them know you are ignoring them, until, perhaps the other person caves. Tempest never apologizes unless he has been genuinely convinced that he is the one at fault.
Possesive: Tempest has a strongly developed sense of ownership over practically everything he comes in contact with, whether or not he actually owns it. New friends? They're his now, you can't touch them. Some cool trinket? He's gotta have it. He's clingy, protective, and even a little bit manipulative - seeing a friend express fondness over someone other than himself is a surefire way to make Tempest feel insecure. His possessiveness is less noticeable when he's in a good mood - if Tempest is overtly clinging, he probably feels in some way distressed or uncomfortable.
Thoughts on the Forest: Tempest did not stay in the forest for very long when he was first born and thus has very few memories of it. However, he likes the mystique of the place and thinks that it would be fun to go back to it someday and have a proper adventure there.
Thoughts of Book Children: Tempest wants to be friends. With all of them. They will be his.
Thoughts on City People: See above.
Physical Appearance: Sandy blonde hair and a ruddy, freckled complexion. Blue eyes, ocean colored. Sinewy. Dresses like a cabin-boy from the year seventeen-hundred-and-never.
Story: The Sea's Own Son [Original]
Favorite type of Ending: Rides into the sunset and promises of future adventures; sequel hooks.
Favorite Illustration: Seascapes, especially with some combination of ships, waves, and dramatic weather/lighting conditions. Consider the works of Ivan Aivazovky and J.M.W. Turner.
Dreams: Tempest dreams of an adventure, surrounded by a crew of his best friends who are all loyal to him.
History:
- Tempest was born with a sense of forward momentum. He didn't linger long in the forest, not because he was frightened but because he was lonely. Within a few days of his emergence into the City, he was taken in by a couple who own a tavern in Sutfirth, and this is where he has been residing for the past few weeks. Tempest is working on his reading and getting known around the neighborhood - he likes the way his name looks scrolling out in a dozen different fonts, and hopes that soon everyone on the block knows it.
Hobbies: An adventure a day. Meeting everyone who looks interesting. Collecting both friends and possessions. Dumpster diving, busywork, making himself known around town.
Birthday: He says it's the summer solstice. He is lying. (September Second.)
Favorite Things: Fresh pie. Clockworks. Found trinkets and bits of old glass worn smooth. Tempest takes joy simply from being alive: it's difficult to list his favorite things because everything is, in the moment that he experiences it, his new favorite thing.
Hated Things: He doesn't hate anything yet, but he's sure that will change.
