Dark clouds rolled across the sky, as a gust of wind picked up, blowing against the land. The trees waved their limbs about, having no control over how the winds would play. A storm was brewing, and it was coming fast across the vast water to Ocean Island. There was something eerie about it, the storm itself having a terrible feeling aura around it.

The deep spreading ocean water crashed it's waves against the coast of the island, the white furious foam washing across the ground. This was no day to be out at sea, or outdoors as it was. The weather made it dangerous, for human and creature alike. Outside though was a lone figure, covered with a black cloak that whipped around in the wind. His face was covered by the hood, heavily draped over his face, his mysteriousness looming over everything around him. He had the same eerie aura as the wildly behaving storm, the plants facing away from him, like they were making a path for him, or rather...didn't want to be any where near him.

Casually strolling at a pace reserved for monsters in the movies, following so slow, it made them scarier, the mysterious cloaked figure would then step up a pond. Despite the dreary storm, the pond continued to shimmer brightly from the bottom, like it was full of life. A lovely figure rose from the water, pastel, shimmering colors shining through the darkness of the storm. She looked down at the dark figure, her gaze both furious and reserved.

"What do you think you're doing here?!" She asked.

It took many minutes of silence before the dark figure replied, his voice cold like the northern winds that blew down upon the island.

"I'm here to challenge your followers...Harvest Goddess...it seems people have forgotten you, so lets see how they strive if you can no longer help them." The man replied, a hand shot out through his cloak as he grabbed hold of the Harvest Goddess' arm, his grip almost impossible to escape. The Harvest Goddess shrieked in pain as she slowly began turning into stone. As the last of her was trapped, she began to sink to the bottom of the pond, the water began to murk over, the bottom no longer to be seen. The man stared down at the endless looking water and then slowly dissolved into the ground, the storm slowly wandering away from the island, as if the man's presence had a hand in it's doing...the remnants of the destruction left behind.

As soon as the Harvest Goddess was fully encased in stone, so too appeared the missing residents and those who were said to be fatally ill. All of them in a neat little row as if to serve as a huge warning.

Dee had been outside when the storm suddenly came up. She had been using her powers to prevent any damage to the buildings or to the plants around her. And most importantly, the notices on the bulletain board.

The two that had been made in regards to the missing residents and the caution about the evil, they had been turned into dust traveling along the already dusty roads.

As soon as the storm had passed without a single drop of rain or watery substance, Dee had realized that it was that dark figure that had passed the inn earlier and made his way to where the pond had been built. This pond was the very same pond that Dee had made for Ray to fish in on his days off.

She had to wonder if and when the dark figure would return. She feared him like the monster he was. The monster threatened all life and not just the Goddess.

It was time that she called everyone to the pond to see what has happened.

~Sometimes I look up into the clouds and think

Ivan had come to the large pond whistling a bit, hat tipped low over his head. He'd his father's fishing rod with him, glad that it could fold up to fit into his rucksack. It took him a moment to re-assemble it, as he walked to the dock of the pond. That was when a sight came into his vision. A row of statuettes.... He blinked twice, wondering if he was seeing things. Should he go tell Dee? Or should he ignore it and do what he came here for. Yeah, fishing sounded like the better option. Dee most probably knew about this already.

As Ivan threw his hook into the water, he had to wait patiently for fish to bite. He felt a chill up his spine, the statues seeming to be staring at him. He hoped terribly that he wasn't a target of the evil spirit... The tug at his fishing pole alerted him that a fish had taken the bait, and he was quick to bring it out of the water. He set it down behind him, though he had to hold it down before it stopped flopping. For a moment he felt bad for the fish, but then again, it wasn't going to live much longer anyway.

This routine continued until Ivan had caught about six fish, and he felt tired. He took a moment to rest, nibbling at some bread from his rucksack. He wondered then how he was supposed to bring all the fish back. His rucksack couldn't carry all of them, and they were pretty big if he was going to carry all of them. He'd figure that out later. He wanted to get in at least four more fish before the sun set. He didn't want to stay here at dark...

Carrying a rather large basket with two hands above her head, Dee tossed it beside Ivan. She then reached behind her and took out her own fishing pole. The fishing pole she owned glistened like a rainbow as it was made of diamonds. As soon as Dee cast her line, she got a bite right away. She lifted her arm and into the basket it went. She then said to Ivan, "I brought you this basket to carry the fish back. I deserved this break too, so I thought I'd fish too. I bet you wanna know what happened here, don't you?"

She paused, knowing the question was rhetorical. She was going to tell the story anyway. She said, "The Shadow. That's who caused these beings to turn to stone. These ones here are the first to turn and they are actually harvest sprites. I bet you cannot count all of them that are there, can you? 19, 000 of them. Most of them don't even have names. You see, these sprites can only be unthawed if we get more people in this village. I am not talking about just workers. Eventually, we are going to turn this village into a full fledged city. But, we need the first things first."

Another fish bit Dee's line, and without even pausing to speak, she hauled it in. Dee continued, "The Shadow is a demon that attacks inactive villagers mostly. He seems to have some sort of connection with the Priest, but personally, its just how it always goes. Ultimate good, which is our priest, against the Ultimate Evil, which is the Shadow. Judging from your looks, I'd say you were from Southtown originally. Were you?"

Now Dee was quiet so that she could not only continue reeling in the fish, but to hear Ivan's answer.

Ivan watched her as she began to fish, listening intently. As she laid out the story, it began to make more sense to him. Much more sense. This "Shadow" obviously wasn't a fellow to mess with, though it appeared that there was someone who could defeat him in town, who was a priest.

When asked a question, Ivan frowned a bit, looking down at the water and recasting his line. "I'd say yes... but I lived there a good few years ago. Been roaming the roads for months, years." He sighed, reeling in a fish that had just bitten, throwing it into the basket while speaking, "You see, my father owned his own farm down in Southtown, but my mother couldn't adjust to the country life. She lived seperately in the city, and I with my father. We would visit all the time, and my mother would be so pleased to see us...." He paused, looking over at Dee, "I don't know when it happened, but my parents soon got into an argument, and it made my father go out of control... He stopped working as hard at the farm, and soon enough, he lost it. My childhood was sold away for money for spirits..." He looked down, feeling horrible now that he really thought about it. "My father moved to the city with my mother eventually, and I left. I couldn't live with them, the way they fought so much... And so I'm here." Quietly, he resumed fishing, not uttering a word more.

Dee tilted her head, "I wasn't aware that Southtown even had farms, but I guess I learned something new. Yeah, Southtown is based on martial arts and fighting. If you don't know how to fight, you won't be there for long. My husband Terry, he was raised in Southtown for a long time. Born in Hamster City, but raised in Southtown and that was after Terry'd been raised by the Northern Wolf tribe for awhile. After he turned 20, Terry fought so well, he could defeat even Gods he was that strong. He also had a saying that Fighting led to emptiness. Nowadays, Terry fights for sport at the annual tournament that's held in Southtown. I am sure he knows your parents though. Your father especially. It seems that your dad was one of the bad guys, no offense, but perhaps leaving for a more peaceful future is a good way to be. I am sure you don't want to live your life as a martial artist. You don't seem cut out for it. Heh, I was actually kind of surprised that Link moved here too. I mean, he was born in Southtown, then when he was 8 decided to move to Hyrule where he thought he had a destiny as the new hero of courage. When that fell, as I am guessing it did, he moved here to Blue bell. My boy is only 11 and yet, he's a talented farmer."

Dee had nearly a full rucksack by now, then she said, "So, what part of Southtown you from, the east or west part? The east section is SNK and the west side is Capcom."

Ivan nodded as she spoke, surprised that she knew so much about his hometown. "Capcom. My father's farm was off to the edge of the town, provided some of the fresher produce for the town. Since most of the people there were indeed fighters, they liked the healthier produce. But you're right, I'm not a fighter. I was really just with the animals the whole day. I never really went into the town except for school, and even there I was pretty much ignored. I didn't mind really, better than getting into fights." He then dis-assembled his fishing pole, putting it into his rucksack and taking the full basket of fish in his arms. "I honestly don't care much for the actual town. It was the farm that was my home." He walked over to the statues of sprites, shaking his head with a little frown. "May they be saved soon." he said quietly, before turning back to Dee, "So, where would you like me to keep these?"

Dee replied, "Those are to be taken to the fish market. I will be going there myself, so please, wait for me until my basket is full, okay?"

Not really waiting for an answer, Dee went on about Southtown. She said, "Anyway, its understandable then why you wouldn't like the fighting. Capcom wasn't really big on it, well, not as big as SNK was. Capcom got into it only because of some drug happy warlord named Bison. But, as I know that story to be, Ken Masters and Ryu Hoshi made fine work of him. Ha ha ha! SNK's story in terms of fighting was similar, with the exception of the tournament held annually. That tournament is pretty much how one gains control of the city for a year. And if you are a good fighter like Geese was, winning year after year, then you keep on ruling the town. When Terry won that tournament in 1991, Southtown got its first big break in a good long while. It had been run by Geese for 20 years before that and nobody was able to stop him. Everyone praised Terry for finally beating the living crap out of Geese for everyone felt that Geese was being highly unfair, which all Geese did was corrupt the town big time. Terry restored order for a while, but at least he was able to pass the torch a lot sooner and he was fairer about his opponents. He wasn't in the tournament to win per se. He was in it to better his own skills. The first tournament, granted, he wanted to dethrone that mad-bird, but after that...it was all fair. The thing was, since then, only corrupted power hungry criminals wanted the crown so Terry had to keep on winning just to keep the town safe. When I came to Southtown, or rather returned in 2006, that was the first year that someone else took the title. Alba Meira was mayor and has been since then."

Ivan took the order, setting down his basket and sitting next to it, listening to the little history lesson on Southtown. He knew most of it, save for the fact that Dee had visited the town in 2006. That was, what, a year before he left?

"Well, It's obvious that the way SNK governed was rather... unfair I should say. Only the strong people could govern. And sometimes, brains are more important than brawn." He shrugged, counting out the fish in his basket while he waited for Dee to finish up fishing. "Well, if your husband was from Southtown... why are you both here? Shouldn't you two be settled down back there?" He looked at her curiously. He'd only left because he'd no purpose left, because he was basically unfitting of the town.

Dee replied, as she returned to the pond, a prisoner at her side, "Terry and I are both here because while he and I do indeed rule Southtown, we rule the entire Renaissance Galaxy. Besides, right now, in Southtown, Alba Meira is looking after it and Terry and I both trust him enough to look after things while Terry and I have business here. His and my work has always brought us satisfaction once we can get things moving enough that we don't have to be here to keep it going."
