Why in the Hell do people call menstruation a period? It's never JUST a period, it's a frigging puddle. (Brought to you by a man bitching about femme menstruation.)
Gods, I really don't know. I'll just edit this to be a real topic later or some thing. Until then, discuss the first paragraph.

maybe just 'cause it's a period of time? Maybe it just sorta evolved into a euphamism from there or something. Like there'd be women talking amongst themselves a few centuries ago referring to the period, so as not to shock and alarm the menfolk.
...Or something. sweatdrop

Hm, not necessarily the women refering to it as a 'period'. Some doctor could have just made it as his own term for his patient(s) and then other people liked it and, what else, stole it and made it a word in English. Mehbeh even some guy just thought of calling it that with one of his random 'girl-friends'. <.< Either way; some one made it and people liked it, so they stole it and had things go around to where the lovely people of english said 'Oh! We best make this a word, then, as we approve the action of making metaphors literal terms! Yeah, baby!' Speaking of such, is menstruation a literal term for the word 'period', now? Seems like it could be, but seems like those idiots who make their dictionaries might have decided 'Oh, ho-ho, but that's just too much, which is why we decided 'carpet' is an actual word.'
