So what kind of ideas are you tossing around for your novel this year?

Mine's not very original but I think I'm going to have the story alternate every other chapter between the real world and a D&D steampunk fantasy. The real world stuff will be about a guy going day by day through the thirty days of NaNo. The steampunk stuff will be the story that he is writing. It eventually seems to be coming to life around him as if he were an invisible spectator in a Star Trek holodeck.

I just imagined myself in that position and with the stories I write, I'd be dead.

My NaNo is about a woman who lives in the future in which women are greatly supressed to the point where they can't even walk outside without men. This is due to ruthless matriarchs that once ruled the whole of Europe, Africa, Australia, and several other outlying islands. When they fell, the New Order stepped in and made sure women such as those never again rose to power. Of course, after a while everyone kind of forgot about that and just assumed the laws that were in place were to remind women of their role in society. Well, this girl is married to a men twenty years her senior, and he abuses her. She's had enough, but women can't fight back, so she has to break the law in order to do so. One thing leads to another and she's involved in the beginnings of a war.

My novel is about the fate of a world that has been ripped apart and is beset by these creatures that drain the life of everything around them. What the creatures are, and why they do what they do, is all tied into an event that happened hundreds of years back in the world's history. It's an event that has been lost to the fade of time - at least until now. You have a corrupt political institution and violent revolution.

That last sentence actually sums it up pretty well.

Well I thought about doing vampires.

And then I was like ******** that.

Then I thought about doing a mental hospital novel, you know, coming from someone that actually lived it and knows that it's not quirky and you can find love there or full of poop-throwers and murderers.

But that would be boring, trust me.

So now mine's probably gonna be about a girl who's trying to write a novel during her senior year as her life falls apart around her.

I kinda like the mental hospital novel. It may be boring to you, but someone else could relate to it.

Maybe the mental hospital can be in your aspiring-novelist story?

I am leaning towards something a bit more nonfiction, more autobiographical.
I want it to be something kind of like letters to a soldier mixed with a wife's reaction to a deployment. Kind of like showing it in two parts, how the wife writes these happy letters to her husband while trying to hide the struggle she is going through with him being gone.
Show how you have to struggle to show your support and be there for them when all you get for contact is a 20 minute phone call a week.

Hmmm, I may make it more of a fiction, written from the point of view of the generic military wife.

I think so, yeah. I'm still not set in stone about it yet, though.

It's between this and my TOP SECRET idea.

Mine is still up in the air. I recently finished all the prep work for a fantasy novel which I have originally planned to write come November, however, now I'm not sure if that will be my NaNo novel or if I will go with another of the ideas I have stored away in various notebooks. That indecision put aside no matter which idea I go with it will be written in the Fantasy genre because that is what I most enjoy writing, though one day perhaps I will try my hand at Sci-Fi since I do enjoy reading those types of books as well.

So, far my ideas are all about Mental illness.
Other than that I don't really know yet.

I've been throwing around several ideas, not really committing to any. Most of the things I write aren't really considered 'happy', per se, so I've been told by my family to try to write some sort of happy story, instead of 'death and carnage', as they put it. It's… not really working out. xD I have several things I can fall back on, but I want to challenge myself by writing something I'm not used to. It'll probably still be supernatural or fantasy though- that just seems to be the thing I always fall into, intentionally or not.

That sounds really interesting. Are you writing from personal experience? I remember my friend signing up for the army a long time ago. I haven't heard from him for a long time, so hopefully he's okay!!

Oh man, it's terrible down there. sad I pray that your husband is okay!! I watch the news constantly, so I try to keep up to date when I can. Not a lot of the news is reporting about Afghanistan unless it's a tragedy. sigh.
