Welcome to the future of Beer, Beering and Beer related discussion.

I don't really expect people to post here. I created this to keep people up to date with the beers I brew, because I can't drink them all by myself.

I don't want anyone be think I'm being presumptuous here but I've posted too much beering related s**t in general discussion and figured it wouldn't hurt to let you guys know whats going on concerning my brewing, what I plan to brew, what they taste like etc. Plus you guys can requests brews here and I will discuss the possibility and possibly brew them (taking into account the cost and the overall appeal etc)

Alrighties, enjoy the beers.

(It should be said that the original idea of homebrewing came about through a drunken talk between Jemmies, Duckies and me [I'm quite sure they don't remember it]. I still think Jemmies should give it a go because it's awesome and only costs about $80 to get set up, including the first beer, and about $15 - $20 for 23lts of decent beer once you're going. I'd also be more than happy to help out in any way possible, whether it be through info or actual practical physical help, the more beer buddies I've got, the better, that goes for any dubenites who want to get into it.)

Also feel free to post on stuff related to beers you've tried in pubs and anything related to brewing, beering etc.

Past Brews.

This will be updated as the beers are brewed and lovingly consumed.

No 1.

Coopers Real Ale. Fermented with 1kg of Coopers brewing sugar. Fermentation seemed to stall and the result was a pilsner-like, very pleasant, light-tasting though quite alcoholic ale. Tasted on New Years Eve 2004 at Emwahs house.

No 2.

Coopers Real Ale with honey. Brewed badly as I had no idea how to use honey in beer. Result was a bitter aftertaste in all beers. Not all bad but not worth repeating. Tasted on various occassions including my 20th birthday.

No 3.

Black Rock Cider brewed with 1kg Coopers brewing sugar and 300g of lactose. Rather dry cider (not unlike Strongbow Dry). I'm convinced that I boiled it for too long. Some people seem to like it, I don't. Still 20 bottles of it. Tasted of my 20th birthday.

No 4.

Coopers Real Ale. A copy of my first brew. Same recipe. This one finished fermenting and is a little stronger in both taste and alc content because of it. Tasted on my 2nd 20th birthday party (didn't like it on the day but since decided that it was a ******** awesome beer and as a result there are only 3 bottles left fot consumption on special occasions).

No 5.

Coopers Sparkling Ale. Brewed with 1.5kg of Light Dry Malt Extract. Result is a ******** awesome beer. By far the best yet. Good head on it. Lovely taste (not malty as one would expect, almost sweet, somewhat honeyish). Look forward you having you guys over for a tasteing. I tasted it with Ducky a few days ago (about the 12th of Feb maybe). We both enjoyed it.

No 6.

Beermakers Ginger Beer. Havn't tried it yet. Was in the fermenter for about 2 weeks. It's been in the bottle for a few days. Will try it soon.

No 7.

Honey Porter Clone for Jasper. Racking at the moment. Looks alright, smells strongly of hops.

To be Brewed.

1. Coopers Pale Ale Clone

Trying to clone the commercial Coopers Pale Ale. If you havn't tried it you should. My favourite commerical beers are Coopers Pale Ale and Coopers Sparkling Ale. This is also a reliable recipe and should be a good drop. I'm actually culturing the yeast for this brew from proper Pale Ale Stubbies.

2. Strawberry Blonde

Canadian Blonde beer with a hint of strawberry clover honey. This one's for me and you buggers. Should be a good drop.

Sometime when I'm feeling creative - Raspberry Pilsener

Coopers Australian Pilsener kit (or whatever Pilsener I can find at Coles) brewed as per instructions with I'm guessing about 1ltr of Raspberry cordial added when the first fermentation stops. I'm afraid. AFRAID.

In Winter: Asahi Super Dry Clone

Feel free to recomend beers (I can almost always find recipes for cloneing commercial beers) or feel free to post about what you think might be good. I'm always open to suggestions.

As the first random post I'd like to say that beers served at Paddies taste rather strange. They all seem to have an unusual common afterteaste which leads me to believe that the glasses may not be properly rinsed before serving.

I tried the Carlton, Been Neez and Orginal Ale VB (quite a rare drink in these parts, I talk to fellas in Melb who can't find this beer) and they all had this taste. I also had a Stella Artois (sp?) which is a lovely Lager (keeping in mind that I'm an Ale man and always will be) and the Stella didn't have this taste. Moral of the story: I'll be drinking Stella at Paddy's from now on, it's a lager but it's one of the nicer lagers you'll find on tap and it's a damn sight nicer than anything you'll get as far as ale's go at Paddy's.

Really wanting to have another ltr of Hoegarden at Bended. Maybe Jemmies will be up for that one night? Tried it with Jack and Rick and it's a very nice german beer (not sure what type as I had it was before I could classify beer) and they serve it in 1 ltr glasses which is awsome.

Cheers.

WaffleTF? when the butternuts was we drunk?

I do enjoy a drop of mew every now and then.
1 and 5 are definite happy makers whether it be a smile as you walk down the lane with a loved one or the leaves on a turtle the morning after a bad fertiliser accident (understand double entendre here).

The beer from alot of pubs has a weird taste. At Paddies it's kind of a metallic/chemical taste. MmmMmm.

Anyhoo, I'll be looking forward to pot and parmy, although in NSW there is no such thing as a pot. HAR.

I'm still hanging out for that Raspberry something I ordered on new years when you were very drunk and talking alot. Remember? Raspberry something?
As for parma, it needs chips!

As if I talk a lot when I'm drunk. Other than that rant that I was on at about 4:30 this morning with an unlucky ducky. Anywhos, I've got a recipe for a fruity pilsner which includes adding fruit cordial. Seems like a fairly simple recipe too, I'm just a little frightened of fruity beer, I don't think it would taste very awesome.

You don't know what awesome is until everything becomes raspberry!

Like the apple cider with the post-process ingredient of apple cordial?

so if raspberry makes awesome, what makes sad? puppies?

Hey Jim, I don't know why you thought that cider sucked so much.

I had a few bottles of it last night with Jem and it was quite the nice brew.

And yeah, you should do raspberry beer. Have you ever had beer and raspberry? It's good.

I'm gonna go ahead and say that I think puppy flavoured beer would be s**t-house, and not just because puppies do alot of poop. But like guts and s**t. And fur. Too many whiskers. Claws.
But raspberry + beer is usally tops, in past experiences anyway.

Yeah, I don't know why I didn't like the cider, I just didn't like it. I've got Jaspers Dark Ale and a Ginger Beer in the fermenters at the moment. I'll do the raspberry pilsener as one of the next ones, after my strawberry blonde. I'll have to ask around to see how much cordial I need to add.
