...it has recently come to my attention that many of you are questioning my mental stability due to my recent acquisition of taste in a certain wrestling franchise, namely the WWE. I am led to understand that you disapprove of this, your reason being that said franchise is "fake". Firstly, let me correct you. It is not fake - many of the strikes you see are quite real. A more appropriate term would be "scripted" or "choreographed". Secondly, yes, I am fully aware that this franchise's programs are scripted. I enjoy them nonetheless. Indeed, I prefer this particular scripted matter to that of the ultimately fake "Real World" or the Darwinism-defying1 "Jersey Shore". It is entertaining to me, a 24-year-old man, and therefore fulfills its purpose by reaching its target audience.

Further, I am led to understand you have disdain for me due to my dislike of a certain genre of entertainment, namely college sports and/or professional football. This apparent disdain spreads deeper still when you factor in my preference to watch the British science-fiction show, "Doctor Who". Let me enlighten you as to my choice of this preference as well.

While the NFL in its infancy was formed as early as the 1920s, it did not reach its current recognizable state until the early 1980s which, interestingly, is when one of the first players' strikes began. "Doctor Who" was first televised on BBC in 1963, and continued running regularly until 1989. Despite the lack of a regular television appearance, the series continued in the form of novels, radio serials, and movies, until its television relaunch in 2005.

Unlike the NFL, "Doctor Who" has a recognizable plot and storyline, memorable characters, and no confusing rules or unnecessary commentary by series retirees. Additionally, with the exception of the television cancellation from 1989-2005, there have been no strikes by the writers or actors, or lockouts of the franchise due to trivial quibbling over salaries.

In short, there are specific reasons why I decide to watch certain things, and why not to watch others. The most important of these reasons is that I, most certainly, am not you. Nor will I ever be.

1 - A reference to Darwin's Theory of Evolution and/or Natural Selection, which carries with it the "Survival of the fittest" connotation. This particular jibe is directed at the television show "Jersey Shore", the actors of which are simply too stupid to survive in the real world.
