I've looked for this type of stuff on and off, but was wondering if anyone here had any advice or input.
I am a spider magnet so much to the point that I'd be willing to believe that spiders are some sort of terrifying spirit animal for me. They single me out constantly. When I was young they only showed up in the bathroom that was designated as mine, as it was closest to my bedroom. We used to own a lounge chair that was usually my dad's designated seat, and he sat in that chair for hours everyday, and yet on the off chance I sat there, a spider always managed to come crawling out of the cushion. There were three beds in the last house I lived in and they picked mine to live in. There are two beds in the current apartment and once again they have decided that I am a great bunk mate. I have been sitting right next to someone on the couch countless times, and the spider decided to go right ahead and sit on my lap and ask what we were watching. I've walked on trails in a group of seven people, the fifth person in the row, usually the shortest person there, and yet I am the only one who walks into the spider web. I cannot think of a single time that the spiders have accosted anyone else around me. And yes, I would remember because I am terrified of spiders, and remember every freaking encounter I or anyone else I know has had with them.
I am apparently their chosen one, though it's a poor choice on their part because I'm also a cold blooded arachnid murderer. Are there any good websites for superstitions, myths, deities, beliefs, etc associated with spiders? Maybe if I appease a spider deity they will leave me alone gonk

Black cherries on her lips }i{ I know your pain. I've been an arachnaphobe since I was 3, thanks to my father and his failure to censor my movie viewing (Arachnophobia at age 3. Not a good choice.) It seems, no matter where we move, there are always large orb spiders that skulk around outside our door. I can understand it now, as we live on the edge of town and it's kinda rural. But even when I lived in town, 5 minutes from downtown even, they stalked me. I manage to find them everywhere, and I hate it. I've been trapped in the shower by them, and even got locked out of my house by them (no shoes to squish, and the darn thing was HUGE! As big as a rose. BLEGH!)
I've thought about trying to do something to discourage them from finding me, but my fear is that I'd mess it up and end up drawing them to me. So, I get my mother, the cats, and the neighbor children to make them go away for me. Or my friends, who shake their heads at me. If you find something, and it works, then please share! And good luck!! }i{ as he whispers her name to the dark

You may just notice them more than others because you're so afraid of them. You'd be surprised how many people just don't notice that there's a spider on their arm. Being an arachnophobe however, you're hyper aware of them.

I agree with Raven. Its kinda like me with bees. I usually didn't notice them that much until after I got stung by one. Now I notice them more and start freaking out. Or our stupid mayflies and Canadian Soldiers. I hate going out during bug season cuz I don't want them anywhere near me. They'd land on everything and I'd notice them but my friends wouldn't.
Or even on the other end of the spectrum, I love cats. My friends would probably even say I'm obsessed. But I notice them more than my friends and family.

I think Raven has a good point- isn't there something about how there are always spiders around?

There are statistics somewhere about how many spiders everyone eats each year while they sleep. The things are everywhere. Most of us just don't really notice them.

I notice bugs. Both those I do and don't like. Spiders really are EVERYWHERE. I'm quite certain there are at least 3 in the room with me right now. They like the dark places for the most part. Last I checked, in different areas around the house (outside), there were 4 orb weavers. And one likes to make it's web right on the freaking deck and not take it fully down, so you walk into the strongest threads...
I'm not so concerned about spiders. Save for jumping spiders, all the others I've ever encountered would rather run. Jumping spiders... I've seen them bite something that's poking them. But they stay on the porch, and don't bite unless you're actually after them, or else they'd run...
Now wasps... wasps are terrifying. I was chased by a cicada wasp once. HUGE. No clue why either. I ran inside, shut the door, then watched it hover around the deck waiting for a while... then it flew off and I haven't seen it since. I hate those stinging things like wasps and hornets and bees... you never know what you might do to piss one off!! At least spiders keep to themselves and usually only bite in defense. Even if they are rather creepy looking.
But look at yourself! You're this huge fleshy monster who can snuff it out with one finger. You're pretty terrifying yourself. Think of what the spiders must think of you... gotta appease the human god to possibly get rid of you? razz

Am I the only one who's not freaked out by spiders? I always thought they were kind of cool.

I'm ok with itty bitty spiders but the bigger they are the more uncomfortable I am around them.
