Alright, here we go! Here I'll be monitoring the growth and well-being of my wild caught Least Killifish.

10/20/11

Went out to the river and caught 3 very small Least Killi fry (actually, they are older fry, I assume). I seem to have a male and 2 females. They are currently about a 1/2 inch long. I originally had 4, but put one back due to fin damage. I'm pretty sure it was from something trying to eat him, but I didn't want to take any chances. I was hoping to catch some adults, but I couldn't get far enough out to find any, as they hang out about 5-6 feet away from the shore, and I didn't rent a canoe this time (got my feet wet, though @.@).

They are being drip acclimated. The out side temp is in the 60's and the river felt to be about low to mid 70's. They are getting about 2 drops per second. My tank should be at 78*.

I hope the Ram doesn't bother them too much, but I think they are big enough, and there are enough plants, for him to not be too big of a problem. I'll be checking the filter every day, as well, as the river was pretty still where I caught them.

I will be feeding them on New Life Spectrum, Hikari Fancy Guppy (very fine, powdery pellets), Omega One Betta Buffet Pellets, and I'm getting some Hikari Cichlid Gold in the mail from a FL member in a few days. I also have a mix of Aqueon Pellets, and Tetra Sun Dried Baby Shrimp with the NLS pellets. The tank is full of Diatoms and other algae, so they should like that too.

Update on the little guys!

I just now added them to the tank (about 6:40 pm). They have been acclimating since 11:30. They seem to be doing pretty good.

All three made it through the night. I added some powdered up Hikari Fancy Guppy pellets, and while they didn't eat much, they did nibble a bit.

They are all active, and stick close to each other.

10/23/11 (really 10/24, but we'll ignore that :p)

I let the little guys out of the net this morning, after giving the Ram a nice big breakfast. He gave a bit of a chase, but didn't seem to catch any of them. None the less, I have not seen them all day. I'll be doing a water change tomorrow. I hope they all three magically appear out of no where (or the plants, theres a lot of them lol).

10/24/11

Just did my water change. I ruffled the plants up, looked in the filter, and nothing. I think the Ram got them. I'll go out and catch more today. This time I'll rent a canoe, so I can go out a bit further to the plants they adults hang out it.

Oh goodness! Forgot about this blog! sweatdrop

5/22/12

Babies everywhere! I'm not sure which female it is, since they only drop a few fry a day for about a week and a half, but there are around 10 fry in the tank right now blaugh

The tank, also an RCS breeding tank, is on a high protein diet, and is fed 2-3 times a day, to promote both populations, and this seems to be working. All my female RCS have eggs, and the male Killies fight over the females (and the females fight over the food rofl ).
