So, I had the oppurtinity to see Step Up 4: Footloose- ER....I mean, the remake of Footloose and it was pretty good.
I'm dead serious, I loved this movie. In fact call me crazy but I think it might be better then the original (please don't kill me).
The original is a good movie, but the more I watch it, the more I notice that it hasn't really aged all that well.
This version is a bit like taking an old rusty car out of a junkyard and making it new again. Filling Kevin Bacon's Shoes as Ren McCormack is Kenny Wormald (Originally it was supposed to be Zac Efron) He does a good job, as do Julianne Hough (Ariel), Miles Teller (Williard, whose more of a derpy goof then he was in the original) and, as I predicted, Dennis Quaid as Rev. Shaw Moore.
And the music and dancing are much more engaging, but then that was expected. Much of the songs from the original are covered by different artists which are all well done. And sometimes they use the original songs including Bang Your Head by Quiet Riot, Let's Hear it For The Boy by Deniece Williams and even the original Footloose by Kenny Loggins.
One thing that I should mention is that the sequence of events in the remake is pretty much the same as the original, however they are placed a little differently. And there are a few differences. For example: instead of a chicken race on tractors, we have a school bus race. The character of Uncle Wes is more sympathetic towards Ren. And probably the biggest change, the reason Ren moves to Bomont in the first place is because his mother died of leukemia, forcing him to move in with his Uncle. I think the filmmakers took a risk by doing this and it paid off.
Well, long story short: If you like the original movie and are having doubts or even if ya didn't like the original, I say give this version a chance.
