The air was still and quiet, an odd chill had settled over the city, as the citizens of Hearthome began to turn in. Closing shops and retiring to their homes and apartments, never once did the people of the city stop to think that, perhaps. This could be their last night. Upon a peak of Mount Coronet, overlooking the thriving bustling city, full of lights and life, a mysterious man, draped in a frigged looking cloak and a Froslass stood, watching....Waiting. It wouldn't be long now the man thought to himself, "Another for Lord Verin, eh Persephone?" the figure asked, turning to the Pokemon who glanced at him, nodding in agreement before casting her cold gaze back to the city.
Checking his pocket watch, the man flicked a small switch on a device he held with a grin, "If a job is to be done..." the man said, a mist covering the entire city, billowing from beneath the town; blanketing it in a matter of minutes, "It should be done with style and substance no? Click." flicking another switch, a light went off somewhere on the other side of the mountain, where a group of uniformed men stood. Swiftly the men jumped into action, opening large truck cages filled with Electrode and other cages filled with Fearow. Coaxing the Electrode into nets, the men had the Fearow line up, numbering in the sheer hundreds carrying in their talons the netted Electrodes and flying over the mountain, wave after wave.
Glancing skyward the cloaked figure laughed as the bird Pokemon began blanketing the sky, descending towards Hearthome City. Within a matter of moments, the city was shrouded in a cover of the bird Pokemon. "Click." the man said as he flicked one last switch, signalling the Fearow to drop their load, "Boom." in no time, the once quite air was filled with the sound of explosions and buildings collapsing. The screams of terrified and confused townsfolk soon followed, running aimlessly through the thickly mist covered streets as rubble and explosions fell all around them. This went on for what seemed like hours, wave after wave of Electrode falling to the city, until all that was left was what looked from above, to be a mist filled valley, devoid of anything but cries of anguish and the sounds of flames flickering. Flicking open an altered C-Gear, the cloaked man spoke, "It's done Sir. They never saw it coming. Gideon, over and out." Closing the link Gideon gazed down at his work before nodding at his Froslass and beginning his trek across the mountain.

Roland was sitting down to relax when the news reached him. It was one of those rare occasions where Roland had taken off his headset and set it aside. The glasses were tied into a holographic eyepiece, which in turn was tied into his C-gear and an alternate wrist computer Roland had saved from his old glory days as a mercenary. The result was a computer that would respond to his voice and bring up images and info on the eyepiece, which he had also extended to make the full set of glasses into a holographic screen.
Few people knew Roland was a techie. Even fewer knew the full extent of this.
Some people are crazy about shoes and hats and wear those at all times aside from when they sleep. Roland was like that about his glasses: They offered an open line of communication in case he was needed for an emergency, and they offered limitless data when he needed to know something he didn't already. It was probably one of the most useful tools he would ever own, and he had made it himself. Another fact not well known about Roland: He was a music junkie, and he almost always had music playing through the earpiece when he wasn't trying to listen to an important call or piece of information.
This time, when Roland picked the headset up and put it back on, it wasn't music that he heard, but instead the frantic screams in the background of a newscast.
"-ening with a sudden aerial attack on Hearthome. The damage is extremely extensive, yet there seems to be no motive behind it other than a pure lust for destruction. The raid lasted a long time, roughly half an hour, though those that were caught up in the incident say it felt like days they were trapped in the horror."
"It felt like it would never end. I wasn't expecting to come out of this intact, I'm lucky I did. All the screaming and pain going on around me... I think that's what made it seem to last the longest."
"It's unclear how many people have perished or how many people may still be alive in there. Police are currently combing the place right now, using many different pokemon to aid in the search. However, it does seem that the surrounding areas of Pastoria City, Solaceon Town, and Oreburgh City have survived unscathed. It is said that this seems to be the biggest pokemon-based all-out attack on a city since the attack on a city in the PWF region, Infernus. Could the same power be at work in both of these events? More on this story at 11..."
Roland sighed and sat back down in a recliner in his room, silently petting Arcane as he listened. Arcane could tell something was up by the way Roland silently listened to the whole report. After about five minutes, Roland looked over at the pokemon and said "Well, hope you're ready, boy. Looks like Verin's back again... this time he struck very close to home. Hearthome... I wonder how Fantina is faring in all of this." With that, Roland went back to silently petting Arcane and staring at the ceiling through his shades.
Roland's last thought as he drifted off to sleep was "I wonder how my folks are doing, anyway..."

A hidden base in the middle of no where- or that what it felt like. Barely little activity happened here. Barely little of anything happened here. Was that why she was here? She shrugged her shoulders and continued what she was doing- straightening up the base. Not that it was dirty but there was little else Rishiki could- or wanted- to do. Her drive seemed to be stalling, plus Lord Verin hadn't given here a command.
The news played a message about the Hearthome attack and she shut it off- oddly disgusted at the events that took place. It sickened her to think of all those people dying and yet the emotion faded fast. These random emotions confused her but Rishi put them out of her mind- her face forever blank.

One little Indian boy was left all alone. ~Flandre Scarlet~ It had been weeks since Flandre had last seen that group she had traveled with. She broke away and took off from that pack before they got suspicious. She couldn't get them off her mind for some reason. She was riding on her Arcanine's back, facing up towards the sky to view the clouds, as she usually rode in this position when riding on Arca. "It sure was nice of them to feed and give us drinks huh Arca?" The Arcanine replied with a cheerful "Arf!" and a bright smile. She continued thinking, "As for me...well...I'm just glad I could sneak away to feed..." she let out a giggle at that.
She was gazing up at the clouds and pointing them out as her faithful friend trotted along the route. She pointed up, "Look! That looks like a Charmander." which was shaped like a Bulbasaur instead of a Charmander, she pointed in another direction, "And that over there looks like a Ditto." which was just a blob of clouds, and pointed again in another direction, "And that one there looks like an Altaria!" which, little to her ignorant mind, it actually was an Altaria, it just blended in, being made of mostly cotton material to make it look like clouds. She pointed at the air raid happening in the city, "And over there looks like-" she was cut off when she realized what was going on, but only gave a bit of a annoyed face, "...Oh...eugh...well that doesn't look good." she said with a slight slant in her mouth.
She gave a bit of a sigh, "Ugh...that's a little too well done for my tastes." she said a bit agitated when her stomache started to rumble, along with Arca's at the same time. Arcanine let out a small dog whine as she pat his head, "Don't worry pal, we'll find some food soon." she said returning to cloud gazing. A few minutes later, her Arcanine stopped in it's tracks as Flan started to flip and fall off her companion, just like last time, as she let out while falling, "Ohgodnotagain!" and hit the ground with an "Oompf" coming out of her.
She sat up, rubbed her head, and put her bonnet back on her head. She climbed back on Arcanine, but was in a horse rider position this time as she leaned in his ear and asked, "What's up? Smell something?" to which the Arcanine replied with a nod and took off running toward a thick entrance to a forest, to which Flandre just assumed that her Arcanine had smelled food, he actually found a small underground base entrance hidden under a few bushes, twisting and turning here and there to be a pretty good camouflage. The Arcanine approached the forest and underground base entrance as Flan slid off of her faithful friend to inspect the base's underground entrance door.
She lowered her hand slowly and gave it a few light knocks the cold steel of the secret door and called out, "Hellooooo~?" in a childish voice. "Is anybody hooooome~?" she called out again. "Come on, open up! I'm hungwy!" she cried out in a particularly cute manner, saying hungry wrong by a force of habit. He went and hanged himself and then there were none...

Rishiki's head tilted up at the knock- a voice that complained of hunger accompanied it. Well this was certainly odd. The only visitors this base-or any base for that matter- got was fellow Nightwalkers- unless it was a prisoner being tortured but that was a different matter entirely. Something about torture spark a memory but it quickly faded. It disturbed Rishi when that happened but she figured a part of her didn't want- or care- to remember. She slammed her fist onto her open hand. That must be it. The only logical choice was that it was a Nightwalker. Then the only reason they could be here was that they were on Master Verin's orders. Maybe they even had orders for her. On the nearby wall was a small keypad. Rishiki punched in a series of numbers at a speed she once probably thought was impossible for her. A click and a hiss of air. The door swung inward, opening. Rishi would have been surprised at the sight of a child at the door but the voice that she heard sounded like a kid. Plus, emotions refused to rise- for the most part. "I didn't know Lord Verin recruited kids so young," she mused, her voice monotone and flat. With a shrug, Rishiki admitted entrance to the loli. Rishiki went about gathering some food items for her, a forgotten instinct taking over. "Eat and inform me why the Master has sent you here."

Time....there had been so much time since Verin had last seen sunlight. His pale skin almost gleaming in the morning sun as he made his way calmly down the patch of road leading from his part of the island to the main hub of networked towns in the center of what was dubbed by the mindless masses as the "Pokemon WiFi Federation". Verin chuckled to himself every time he heard that name, knowing that the advent of wireless communication was nothing but an oversight in the grand scheme of things. "My word..." Verin muttered to himself when he spied the town at last, it's gleaming azure glass buildings reaching up at the sky like so many tombstones. Perhaps when his conquest was complete, he would have a Requiem Mass for their souls before inscribing on the tallest building, "Here lies the "PWF", resting forever in the spot of the nights greatest triumph." The thought of such a scene brought dark laughter to his lips as he finally casually strolled into the city.
Normally, the townspeople would have FLOCKED around Verin, asking questions of the EX-ghost gym leader, or perhaps wanting some advice or an autograph. But after what he had done, there was no forgiveness, no silver lining in the clouds that now formed over the lives of the people, and they knew it. As if on cue, Verin's train of thought was cut off by a shrill scream, belonging to a young girl, Perhaps a survivor of a previous attack on the city by nightwalker troops. As the scream petered out, it was replaced with another yell of recognition as a group of trainers, un-holstering some pokeballs, began to walk towards him. "YOU, YOU D-D-D-DON'T BELONG HERE, F-F-F-FREAK." The fear was plain on their faces as they raised their hands to slam the capture devices on the pavement. They never even got the chance before Verin held his hand out, a black pokeball held inside his pale, grasping fingers.
"You really WANT to fight me? Are you sure? Then...let us DANCE." With a scream, Verin released the pokemon captive inside. As the light cleared, a Slaking began to laze about, a finger casually up it's nose, not a care in the world. The other trainers froze in confusion. "Are you shitting me?" One said, "It's just a slaking, it's LAZY a** won't even MOVE!" As if by some invisible whim, the slaking suddenly stood, the calm look being replaced by what seemed to the trainers to be the most unnatural look of hate and malice they had ever seen on a slaking. "Right...you made a BIG mistake there my friend....You see, Dergan does not LIKE to be insulted." Verin began to laugh louder. "Now you have gone and made her upset." With a sudden movement, the slaking grabbed a car out of the road and hoisted it over her head. "And...i can't control her when she gets mad." As Verins laughter was drowned out by screams, dergan began to destroy the city around her.

Roland awoke to a series of noise that started as Arcane's growl. Then he heard the rest of the noise that was going on: Mayhem outside. He stood up and tilted his head to the side, cracking the vertebrae within his neck. He then rushed about his room, getting things he needed to be on his way: His jacket, pokeball belt, etc. He also made sure to grab his gun, which he put in the holster on his hip. "Just in case..." Roland told himself. Once everything was together, Roland rushed out the door, Arcane hot on his heels.
As soon as Roland stepped outside, he saw a car heading right for him. From the sky. Continuing his run, Roland ran straight for the origin of the airborne vehicle: A slaking was loose and tearing up the city. A slaking. "So... this is it. Arcane! Close Combat!" Roland yelled and watched the Arcanine rush in, quickly swiping and kicking the beast before it knew what hit him. "Err, her. Keep forgetting that thing's a chick. So..." Roland turned to the man who owned the Slaking as he spoke "You looking for me, Verin?"
Roland slanted his eyes toward him and grinned. "Well, lets get this show on the road. All by yourself today? Or can I expect a surprise visit like Hearthome did last night?"

A flash of teeth and fur was all that Dergan made out before being sideswiped by a rather annoying Arcanine. Using a fighting move, the canine slammed into Verin's slaking with the right kind of force to knock her on her back. Upon seeing his prized pokemon laid out, Verin turned to the source of the attack. "Oh? Just the man i was looking for....Roland, we need to talk." The "Man" finished his sentence with a smirk, ten slightly glowing black orbs shooting from outstretched fingers and swarming the Arcanine. A yelp of pain and sorrow as the mass hit the dog, laughter pealing from Verin's throat as he witnessed the pokemon faint like so many before it. "Dergan...return, i have business with the leader that i must attend to." As he brought the behemoth into her ball, he turned back to roland with a smirk. "Soooooo, i would take that attack as a sign that your are still mad about your old gym town?"

Roland frowned and recalled Arcane, the returned the pokeball to his belt before saying "I think you assume correctly. Rather cocky, Verin, just strolling into town like this. State your business and we'll see from there exactly how this meeting will turn out." As he spoke, he attempted to gain a full feel on his surroundings: Several trainers standing by, all injured by their failure to drop Dergan. No pokemon left out after Verin's attack. Such an odd ability... Makes me wish I still had my old power. That control on everything would be helpful here... but sadly, that left the moment I left that city. Maybe I should go back soon..." Roland shook his head a bit, frustrated at the fact that he got lost in thought for a moment. "I need to go back. I'm slipping." Roland also felt the weight of the gun on his hip and sighed. It would not help at all in this scenario. He needed something better, and he knew where to get it. "Well?"
One last thing came from Roland's mouth, though it was very quiet and no one around heard it. Roland had spoken into the microphone on his headset, uttering a quiet command.

It was dark in the cave, and quiet. Chaos sat on his chair, eyes closed, drinking in the quiet. Until, that is, his C-Gear flashed, waking him from his thoughts.
As he flipped his device on, he saw a video was being transmitted from Roland's glasses. "But...wait...that's Verin! What is he doing outside the Elite Four?!"
Chaos grabbed a pokeball from his waist and hurled towards the high domed ceiling. "Killjoy! We have a job to do, boy!"
Chaos leapt from his cliff-side seat onto the back of his beloved Staraptor. Ducking into one of the many small tunnels leading to the cave, they erupted from the side of the mountain and sped through the sky towards Roland, and as it seemed, Verin.

Nivlac stood on a rooftop, looking down at the once-peaceful Pastoria city. His big, red eyes drank in the carnage, his ears perked to the sound of terrified screams in the streets. Nivlac smiled wide, bearing unnaturally large, pointed teeth. Bliss...their screams were bliss...
Nivlac stared down at the man crouched in front of him, whimpering. Smiling maniacally, Nivlac lunged down suddenly, tearing a large hunk out of the man's shoulder with his sharp teeth. The man screamed out in agony, and Nivlac leaned back his head, swallowing the bloody hunk, and let out a long, maniacal laugh into the night.
He wiped his mouth and grabbed the man by his shirt, pulling him up to eye level. Delight twinkled in his deep red eyes, and his breath carried the scent of blood to the man's nostrils as he spoke.
"Feast your eyes, stranger. Stare at the glory of it! The glory of The Swarm!"
Down in the street, people ran screaming as the beedrill flew into the doorways and windows, stabbing at their eyes and faces. Others let out only a small cry before they were torn to shreds by the yanmega swooping down from the night sky. The air vibrated with the buzzing of the frenzied pokemon. Blood stained the streets, and the screams slowly grew to terrible, terrible silence.
Nivlac finished his meal and leapt onto the next rooftop, running along the buildings, soaking in the carnage that lay in the streets below him. Finally, Nivlac found himself clinging to the steeple of a church, staring down at a dark courtyard littered with corpses.
Nivlac smiled, bearing his maw once more, leaned his head back and let out a long, terrible howl. It was the only sound that pierced the dead night, aside from the low, throbbing hum that continued to haunt the empty streets below.

One little Indian boy was left all alone. ~Flandre Scarlet~ Flandre crawled down into the secret base, Arcanine shortly after, and looked to Arcanine with a curious face. He looked back with the same face, at the sight and sound of this new person talking about recruiting kids or something or other. She spoke up, "Um..recruiting who know?" she said curiously. "Who's Lord Verin? And I'm not a kid!" she shouted with a pouting face to the stranger. "I'm eighteen dammit!" She shouted in a loli tone, sounding completely contrary to how hold she just said she was.
She took the food she was given and examined it. "Hmm....buu~" she made a faint, disagreeing noise. "I don't eat this stuff." she said tossing it to her Arcanine to catch in his mouth and eat. He gobbled it up rather fast too, considering he was pretty hungry himself. She crossed her arms and looked up to the girl, "Do you have anything else? I don't eat that kind of food." she said with a huff, "I only eat flesh and bones." she said bluntly, revealing she was a cannibal.
She looked around the room, quite confused, "Sooo....where is this place?" she continued, "Where am I? And who are you?" she finally said blatantly. "And who is this Master you speak of?" she made air quotes when she said the word 'master' to Rishi. He went and hanged himself and then there were none...

Eighteen? That seemed odd, considering her small stature and child-like voice. Then again, Rishiki had a sister who was similar in that she looked much younger than what she was. "If you say you are, then it must be true," she responded. her voice flat. Rishiki puffed out her cheeks as the girl feed all the food to the Arcanine. She was probably so small because she didn't eat anything. Flesh and bones? Ah, she must be one of those people, who wasted not a single scrap of food- like the ones who ate the eyes and organs of their animal meal. "I'm sorry. I have already disposed of them." So the master didn't send this girl. That was...disappointing. Even worse was Rishi had let q complete stranger into the base. "Master is Lord Verin," was the simple reply. How to go about explaining Verin was difficult. "He's the leader of Team Nightwalker."

Chaos leaned forward over his Staraptor's neck as they cut through the sky on their break-neck dash to help Roland.
How could this be? Verin made it all the way to the E4 offices without being stopped? And in broad daylight? How unlike Verin...
Killjoy let out a shrill cry as he dove, dropping through the cloud cover and breaking into the bright daylight. Chaos dug his hands into Killjoy's feathers and joined him in the thrill of the dive, letting out a cry of his own.
The E4 offices appeared on the horizon, and they increased their already dangerous pace.
Hold on, Roland. Just hold on for a few more minutes...

"Behold the glory and the might of the Swarm..." Nivlac brushed his hair out of his eyes as he strolled into Beta Base. He scanned the room and his eyes fell still on Flan as she sat at the table. He stared at her for a few long seconds, and then sniffed the air."You're a new face. I don't like new faces. But, you smell strongly of blood...and I REALLY like blood."He smiled at her, bearing his long, sharp teeth, and pulled up a seat across the table from her. He didn't take his eyes off of the petite girl when he spoke, this time to Rishi."The Dark Master? Has he returned from his...errand?" He hissed as he ran his nails across the tabletop. "I'm itching for more action. These little insects need to be squashed, and I'm tired of SITTING!" He brought his fist down hard into the table, leaving a dent in the smooth metallic surface. His red eyes shot up to the front door, and his ears almost visibly twitched."Someone is approaching..."Nivlac hopped to his feet, and walked slowly up to the front door. He swung the door open, and stared openly at the beautiful young woman standing in the doorway. "...Watch as their wings blacken the sky."
