Uh, no, it was always Sousuke - Kashim was a sort of nickname given to him by the leader of the group of fighters Sousuke fought with in Afghanistan, probably to help him fit in more. Remember, in the first episode, Kurz asked Sousuke if it was OK to use his real name to register in Jindai High School.
I'd say more, but there lies spoilers, and it's off-topic anyway sweatdrop
