Rules:
1. Gaia rules & ToS apply. B/C forum and art/mini shop forum rules apply.
2. No drama whores.
3. I don't care how you type, as long as we can understand you.
3a. In RolePlay, contest entries, flatsales, flaffles, raffles and other posts where you are attempting to win a pet/item/neighbor/flower/tree you must type in proper English.
4. All art is made by me, unless stated otherwise. Any art not created by me is used with the artist's permission. Other credits will be listed as needed (banners, templates, etc). Do not steal or claim you made art, layout or ideas.
4a. Animal Crossing is copyright to Nintendo.
5. Do not edit art. Resizing is fine and cropping, but do not recolor, add items, or in anyway redraw any part of the art.
6. Don't be an a**.
7. Rules specific to customs will be posted in the custom request thread.

Naming Rule:
Characters, custom Neighbors and neighborhoods can have almost any name. Here is a list of things that cannot be names or be in names.
-cuss words
-racial slurs or other derogatory words
-names of official Animal Crossing NPCs and Neighbors. This is a case by case basis. So a Character can be named Bob but a customed Neighbor cannot.
-religious references
-Neighbors may not share names, but Characters can.
-sexually explicit words and ideas
-anything that is over a PG-13 rating

Maple City Bells:
Maple City Bells (aka Bells) are the currency used to buy items. Gaia gold is used for Character payment and recert fees.
Here are some ways to obtain Bells:
-Buy them with Gaia gold in lots of 100 Bells for 10 Gaia gold.
-Sell items to Tom Nook or other NPC shop owners. In this case buy back prices are 1/4 the selling price. Special items will have higher prices. All buy back prices will be listed.
-Sell items to other Characters. In this case it is between you and the other owner to decide price.
-Shake trees or hit rocks. This will be done via RnG.
-Sell fruit, turnips and other plants. This will also be done with RnG.
-Random events done via RnG or dice games.
-Letters may contain Bells instead of items. Your Character's mother will send 1,000 Bells on his or her birthday and New Year's Day.
-Plant Bell trees. This will rely on the RnG to determine if the tree is a regular tree or a Bell tree. It will require a second RnG to determine the number of Bells dropped. Bell trees will be like fruit trees and regenerate once a week.

More information will be added after I figure it all out.

Further information can be found in this thread.

This thread is ridiculously out of date. Please see the mane thread for up to date information.

Story & Setting

Maple City is a pretty big city, as far as how much land it covers. It's not crowded to where houses are almost touching. Each house has a good sized plot of land around it. Down Town is the only exception. There you'll find shops and other businesses, apartments and condos just feet from each other.

For everything outside Down Town think AC: WW with twice as many buildings. Down Town looks more like AC: CF in the city and outside Maple City proper looks like the town in AC: WW, minus the shops.

Down Town is where most shops are, though NPC shop owners will make deliveries, via the Post Office, and even send you a catalog in the mail. This catalog will include items you have or do own, plus most of what is in the shop stock. However, spotlight and special items will be in store only. Super rare items (things from Guilliver or Mayor Tortimer hands out on holidays, etc) can be purchased via catalog if you have owned it. But the price will extremely high (as in no less then 10,000 Bells).
Places to see Down Town:
Harriet's Salon
Nookington's
Crazy Redd's
GracieGrace
Happy Room Academy
Faraway Museum
The Able Sisters Boutique
The Theater
Kapp'n's Bout Tours Office
The Roost
Rover's Taxi and Bus Traveling Office
The Wishing Fountain
Katrina's Fortunes
The Main Post Office
The Main Bank
Nookington Hotel & Restaurant
The Observatory

Down Town is not where player Characters live, it homes the NPCs with shops and businesses in Down Town. Visiting NPCs also stay here and shop owned Characters as well.

Outside Down Town, in Maple City proper and the surrounding country side, is where Characters live.
Places to see in each neighborhood:
Character homes (up to 2 Characters may share a home)
Neighbor homes
Post Office branch
Bank branch
a park with small wishing well.
Character, Neighbor and NPC run stands selling a variety of things.
Library

Each neighborhood will also feature a random eatery:
The Roost (it's like Starbucks!)
a burger joint
a hotdog stand
an ice cream parlor
a smoothie place
a nice restaurant
an Ethnic food place (Mexican, Italian, Chinese, etc. Owner's pick)

The type of eatery is picked with RnG. The owner of the neighborhood can choose the name (not for The Roost), and the NPC running it, with limits. Any AC species is allowed (not Human) but you may not ask for a duplicate of an official AC NPC or Neighbor, a recolor yes. Meaning everything is recolored. This NPC will never move out.

Player Characters

There is a limit of 2 neighborhoods per person, not Gaia account.
That means a maximum of 8 Player Characters and 18 Neighbors. With a maximum of 4 Player Characters and 9 Neighbors per neighborhood.
These limits may be raised in the future.
Characters have 2 cert choices: no background or with background

Characters are Human and will have a set base. I plan to have alternate poses on the current base at some point. These Characters are the pet and are single stage males or females.

Face styles are set to what they are in game, though eye colors may change. Boys can have girl faces, and girls can have boy faces. Hair style and color can be changed from the 'starter' at Harriet's Salon. Only full customs get to pick face style and starter hair style/color. Face style never changes.

Premade Characters will be offered via speed flat, raffle or flaffle.
For premade Characters you get to pick name, neighborhood name and a shirt or dress.

Random custom Characters will be offered via CYOA with an RnG twist or other RnG games.
These Characters have looks (hair color/style, face and skin tone) picked with RnG. You pick gender, name and neighborhood name.

Full custom Characters will be offered in random ways.
You get to pick: hair style/color, skin tone, gender, outfit, name and neighborhood name.

Each Character who creates their neighborhood starts out with 3 Neighbors that you can pick from who is available. Characters moving into an existing neighborhood get 1 Neighbor. All Neighbors are free. For more information see the Neighbors post.

Any Character can have hair style and color, outfit, eye color and accessory changes. See the Clothes & Accessories post for more information.

All Characters and Neighbors, and the permanent NPCs, live in Maple City. Each Character lives in his or her own neighborhood that you name. If one person has multiple Characters then they may all share the same neighborhood, up to 4 per neighborhood. Up to 9 Neighbors may live in a neighborhood and there will be no duplicate Neighbors. So if Bob lives in Character A's neighborhood then Bob cannot also live in Character B's neighborhood.
Neighbors and Characters can move into new neighborhoods. If they move into a neighborhood owned by a different person then ownership of the Character or Neighbor will change.
Every time a Character visits another Character's neighborhood there is a chance of Neighbors moving, up to 2 (1 from each neighborhood) per visit. I will do this via RnG or dice rolls when a RolePlay is completed.

As a note I am still debating weather to cel shade or no shading at all. I like the look of both, I'm just trying to decide what I like better.

Neighbor Non-Player Characters

In Maple City, Neighbors act as familiars. Technically they are NPCs but you may RP them with your Character(s). You can even RP one of your Neighbors visiting another person's neighborhood.

Neighbors will almost always be free and will be granted in various ways. When you get a Character that is making a new neighborhood you will get to pick 3 Neighbors from the available list (link to come). If you are adding a new Character to an existing neighborhood you can pick 1 new Neighbor. The only time this is not true is if a Neighbor is assigned to a premade Character.

Other ways to get Neighbors:
-When your Character visits another neighborhood one or two Neighbors may move. More information will be added later.
-Random events and games.
-Occasionally customs will be offered.

There are 2 types of Neighbors; Neighbors and Special Neighbors.

Neighbors are always free and can move into any neighborhood.
Special Neighbors are typically customs and cost Gaia gold. Unless I decide to give free custom slots. Special Neighbors will never move, unless it is from 1 neighborhood you own to a 2nd neighborhood you own.
Special Neighbors can be:
-Non-Human Collection Pets, I need the original colorist/artist permission. Unless you made the design.
-Non-Human Original Characters you created.
-If you have a Human collection pet or OC then he or she can be customed as a Character.

When a Neighbor moves out of your neighborhood into another person's neighborhood ownership of that Neighbor changes. When Neighbors move they will always write to one or all of your Characters in that neighborhood. This letter will include a farewell, possibly taken from in-game, as well as the name of their new neighborhood and a photo of the Neighbor that moved.

For a Neighbor to move a visit RP first needs to be completed. Once it is I will RnG between 1 and 2. 1 means there will be someone moving, 2 means no one will move. Again I'll RnG between 1 and 2. 1 means only 1 Neighbor will move, 2 means 2 Neighbors will move (one from each neighborhood). Then I'll make up a raffle style list of each neighborhood's Neighbors and RnG to see who moves.

Alternately, if a visit RP is intended in getting 1 or 2 specific Neighbors to move then let me know and he/she/they will be the only ones moving.
Special Neighbors, aka custom Neighbors made for a specific person (i.e. based on a collection pet) will only ever move by owner request.

There is unlimited storage for letters, photos, clothes, accessories, furniture and other items. So you will never have to toss, sell (for Maple City Bells) or give things away. Letters and photos given to a Character may not be tossed, given away or sold.
Your Character may give away, trade or sell (for Maple City Bells only) these things:
-Photos of that Character. (gift or trade only)
-Clothes and accessories.
-Furniture, wallpaper, flooring, stationary and other non-locked items.
-Tree and flower seeds, fruit, acorns, mushrooms and pine cones.
-Weeds, dandelions, dandelion puffs, rafflesia, white turnips, and other garbage.
-Keys, Whisp's lamp, bunny eggs, bunny foil, candy and other things for trade quests.
-Bugs and fish, paintings and gyroids.

Locked items:
-Trees and flowers are locked to the Character who planted them. So are red turnips*.
*red turnips become tradable after you pick them.

Unavailable Neighbors:
Walks - Birthday: ? - Flamboyant - Male (pink boy collection pet for venafydan, will be goat, horse or bull)

Homes & Furniture

Furniture information to come.
The fireplace item will not be an item, but an option Nook can add anytime he remodels your house.

Each Character starts out with a small house. Tom Nook can remodel your home to make it bigger, for a price. When he has time, Nook will sometimes offer remodeling in his shop.
Prices:
First house - Free
Second house - ?
Third house - ?
Fourth house - ?

At this time I plan to have all player homes from Animal Crossing on the gamecube and AC: WW. I have not seen the AC: City Folk houses yet.

If Nook is not taking remodeling jobs, you can change the color of every part of your house, outside appearance only. The only things not changeable are the flagstones and grass.
Things you can add:
Flowers
Trees
Red turnip
Gyroids your Character owns (either the generic from outside your home in the GC version or an actual gyroid)
Some furniture may be able to go outside homes too. Depends on what it is.
