Scar Encampment

The camp is set up in an old barn backed up to a forest. There is open field in front where perhaps cattle once roamed, but now is just good for looking out for visitors. Members of Scar fill in the gaps, several lookouts are posted in the loft of the barn all hours, peering out through the upper barn doors. The barn itself has been fortified from the inside with metal plates, holding heat in and bullets out. Inside is a community of people, all just as barbaric as the next, each one of them carries cocked and loaded weapons at all times. There is something of a market going on, but the currency has changed with the world. Bills and coins no longer hold any meaning, unless you can burn or eat them. Canned goods and anything else useful to survival has become the newest mode of payments.

Thais walked through the encampment, her crossbow slung over her shoulder, boots kicking up bits of dirt and dust as she went. The doors to the barn were open, as they usually were during the day. She looked upward and saw two guards posted in the upper barn doors, keeping watch. One of them nodded to her. She gave a very small nod of recognition back and continued in through the doors.

A man approached her, his hands at his sides, a red and dirtied strip of cloth tied around his arm. She looked up at him, waiting for what he wanted. He rubbed the stubble on his chin and began speaking, "Did you.. find anything?"

She smiled slightly, "Three." She could see from the look on his face that he was about to speak again. As soon as she saw this, she continued, "All dead." He smiled, clasping a hand on her shoulder, giving her a small shake.

"Good work," he told her, before he began walking forward, talking to another man near the side of the room. Thais stood there for a moment, looking straight ahead before she climbed the barn stairs that took her to the upper floor where the man that nodded to her was now watching her walk over to him. She sat on the floor next to him, her feet hanging out the door. It was nearly a 25-30 foot fall from here to the ground. If that was the least of my worries...

Walking around the field with his gator machete in his left hand and a bottle of water in the other. scanning the area, looking for anything out of the ordinarily but as of right now nothing. As he Saw Thais go in to the barn Raveis continued surveying the area he head south, around the barn to check the rims of the forest. " hmm" quickly scanning the area he sees nothing so he quickly climbs a tree for an aerial view. As he looks down below he know noticed a brush Rustling in the distance. Sliding down the tree he makes haste to check it out, nut when he arrives at the location...nothing; there wasn't anything there. "hmm must have been a bird or something" he said as he talked to him self.

As he turns around he noticed a boar staring him dead in the face. Licking his lips he hold the machete firmly in his left hand with right foot forward. The boar lunges at him but Raveis slide his right foot across the ground followed by a dirt trail, as the boar is in mid flight he turning his body with it Raveis lifts the blade above the head and slits its throat; cutting it in the jugular. watching it plop to the ground and the blood squirting out of the gash, taking off his shirt and wraps it around the dead boar so no blood starts to drip and heads back to the barn.

Thais was just about to begin a conversation with the man she'd sat down by, when she heard a clatter around back of the barn. She and the two men jumped up and sprinted down the stairs, grasping their hatchets and machetes, ready to investigate the sound and kill what made it. They bounded around the side of the barn, Thais leading, the two men at her back. She stopped short as she saw a fellow Scar member, holding out an arm to prevent the other men from running any further. Her face was virtually unchanged, except her eyes were very slightly larger with surprise, not fear.

She looked from the shirtless Raveis to the bound... thing. She wasn't quite sure what it was. As she saw there was no immediate threat, Thais shook off the ready position and tapped her finger around the trigger of her crossbow, now casually resting on her shoulder. Her eyes bounced from the covered hunk of meat around to the barn, her lips pursed. Without looking at Raveis, a member she had never actually met before, she mumbled, "What..." a pause, "...is that?" She spoke through a quiet sigh, per se, her voice airy. It was more of a statement than a question, as her rough disposition shined true. She might have been a cool person to get to know, if she wasn't such a b***h at the beginning...

About nine feet from Thais and the two other guys, Raveis glares At them, wondering what there doing back here. Throwing the bloody boar on the ground, he takes a sip from his bottle; as some of the water escapes his mouth and dips down his chin he wipes it off and pours some of the water on his hand, closing his eyes then wiping it on his neck; messaging it. Noticing Thais asked him a question, but wasn't looking at him so he crouches down and removes some of the shirt of the face of the boar, showing its thick tusks and gash on its neck. " Its a Snack..." he said in a surprising happy voice. Taking another quick sip of some water Raveis looks at Thais appearance sizing her up from head to toe.

Looking down at the boar, which he couldnt wait to sink his teeth into it, he takes a glance at its tusks. "Mhmm" thinking to himself he touches the tusks and rubs it once. "female" he thought and notice with out looking at the plumbing. Covering it back up he hurls it back over his shoulder and walks toward Thais. Standing in front of her he tries to properly introduce himself, giving her his right hand " The names Raveis..Nice to meet you..." he paused waiting for a name but as a gentle breeze blew he felt a cold chill down his spin, as he though he needs to go get another shirt on quick.

Thais looked down at the boar after angrily glaring at the side of the barn. A twitch of a smirk met the corner of her lips. Whether it was a twitch of excitement or of some kind of surprise is unknown. She returned to her usual, pursed and moody expression.

As he offered a hand, her eyes slowly wandered to it, taking her time deciding whether or not to shake it. Her eyebrows were raised, giving her a very arrogant aura. Thais boldly looked him in the eyes almost disinterestedly, avoiding the rest of his body pointedly. After she'd decided to accept his hand, she smirked again, this time more pronounced, yet still not touching her dull eyes, perhaps preparing to introduce herself- "And I'm going to be jealous when I smell that thing roasting..." Almost instantly the halfhearted smirk disappeared from her face as she released his hand from her grip, turning to walk back around to the front entrance of the barn, again pointedly avoiding his question this time.

Well, maybe it
is my own fault people don't like me... she thought with some twisted satisfaction.

One of the men turned instantly to follow closely behind her like a loyal puppy-dog. The other shrugged his shoulders animatedly to Raveis behind Thais' back. He was trying to express something to the affect of, 'That's just how she is.' He then turned as well to follow Thais back to their outpost positions.

While shacking her hand he noticed it was smooth and warm, smiling on the inside, thing about her warmth. As he slowly drifted off he quickly popped back to reality, which soon after they released there grip. " well its nice to meet you Going To Be Jealous When I Smell That Thing Roasting" he said sarcastically, smirking and watching her walk then releases a short sigh after the man said 'that's how she is' Looking behind him, back to the forest as a bird flew by he felt an ominous force... at first he just thought it was just him getting chills from the wind but he started to give it a second thought.

Whether it was a sixth since or just him being cautious he takes the blood of the boar and wipes some of it on him. Thinking its a wild predator out there he starts to think it would make a good desert. Turning back around Raveis then tries to catch up to Thais; few inches away looking at her walk " You know that's a long name don't you have anything shorter i could call you?" he said kinda eagerly, with the boar still slung over his shoulder, he starts to thing if he should offer her some after he cooks it...but then again she don't seem like the type to eat wild meat.

Thais rounded the corner of the barn and stepped inside. A few of the people around looked at her and the other two men curiously, silently asking about what the noise was. Thais shook her head, waving a dismissive hand. The explanation to their unspoken question walked in the door after her: Raveis. Members of Scar settled back into their relaxed positions, now understanding as they saw the hunk of wild game slung over the man's shoulder.

After another few moments of blowing off his question, Thais turned her face for a moment, just long enough to say, "Yes," before continuing up the stairs, returning to the lookout point. Her facial expression hadn't changed. It remained bored, or pissed, or alert... Whatever you interpreted it as.

Returning to her sitting position, a leg hanging out the door 30 feet from solid ground, she began cleaning the pointed bolts for her crossbow with a rough looking rag. She rubbed her arm momentarily where her red was proudly displayed, tied crisscross around her upper arm, before returning to cleaning the arrows.

User Image Thais sauntered back toward the barn, knowing there were eyes on her the moment she stepped into the field out front. Michael trailed behind her, somewhat sleepily yet. As before, one of the men in the upper loft doors nodded to her, immediately getting up and finding his way down the stairs to greet her. Before he was able to make it to her, an older man pushed himself off the wall and walked up to her. The young man from the upper barn doors stopped short, cut off by the older man. "You're late." His tone wasn't harsh, "We began to worry. And you brought back at straggler,"

Thais smirked though it did not touch her eyes, "There is nothing to worry about. I'm back... This boy is Michael. A Marine back in the Main caught him out at night, playing hide-and-go-seek with the Walkers," she said with mock playfulness. "Annnd..." her voice cut off as she began rummaging through her knapsack. When her eyes came to rest upon his again, she placed in his hand the three grenades. He looked pleased, "Very good," he said very simply.

"I've also got supplies, but I can distribute them myself," she added, her posture very straight and haughty. "Pleasure, James," she smiled broadly through her teeth, not an unfriendly smile, just uncommon. He returned her smile with one brighter and bigger, slapped her on the shoulder and walked off, the grenades clutched with both hands unlike how Thais had handled them. She licked her lips as the younger man and herself closed the gap between them. He gave her a warm hug, but it was one between friends, or two people that had grown to know each other very well. "I brought you something," Thais said, reaching around in her bag and producing the biggest item it held. The bullet-proof vest. His eyes brightened and he thanked her with another hug before pulling it on over his head and adjusting the right side to lock it in place. "You keep guard more than anyone. If it's anyone's life very much at stake, it's yours."

He smiled warmly, though Thais' had grown cooler, out of habit. "I've something for you too," he said, nodding before he wandered off, Thais following him, and Michael following her. They approached a spit with a wild boar turning atop it, cooking slowly. "Damn," Thais said slightly exasperated, the smell of the thing twinging her senses. Finally she was home.

User Image Thais walked several steps ahead of the group, her knapsack on her back and her crossbow in her arms. Her eyes drifted here and there as she kept a close look-out for predators. She squinted against the sun as she looked out ahead. She glanced over her shoulder, though it was very apparent it wasn’t meant to make sure she was being followed by the two girls and Chaz, it was to make sure they, and in turn herself, wasn’t being followed by any unlikables. After a period of time they began approaching the barn that Thais called home for some time now. As they approached, the men in the upper barn doors pulled their rifles close and looked through their sights to see what Thais had brought home. She glanced upward at them and nodded her head and they seemed to relax visibly, yet they still held the visitors with their eyes for precaution. Thais waved her hand at the girls and Chaz, motioning they stop just outside the barn doors, where three more guards stood with rifles in hand inspecting the visitors, and wait while she went inside.

Once she was inside she smelled the air which still held the lingering stink of roasting boar, reminding Thais that she was very much hungry. An older man standing on the wall watched as Thais came in, his eyes wandering to the three standing just outside the doors. He began approaching her, his salt and pepper hair gleaming in the sunlight that peeked in through the roof, though more salt than pepper. “They are..?” he said, his eyes wandering to them. They were very much deep inside the barn, shrouded in dim light and shadow. Thais spoke, her chin raised up so that their eyes met, “Visitors, and perhaps potential Scar members.” Her voice was quiet and matter-of-fact. “But this one here is just a girl…”

They shared several moments of conversation before the man retired to his place leaning on the wall, kicking up a foot behind him, his arms across his chest so that his muscles became prominent through his t-shirt. Thais waved on the three standing outside, silently insisting that they follow her, though she didn’t wait for them to catch up. The man on the wall kept his eyes on the three as they fell in line. Thais moved through the barn, leading them from a distance toward the smell of boar. The little boy Michael, who she’d brought back days before, was sitting happily, chatting with a soldier-like man. At the sight of Thais the boy nearly leapt to his feet and ran toward her. As if realizing what he’d done, he stopped short and walked toward her, his face inclined to the floor. Bashfully, the little boy, likely no older than four or five, hugged her leg gently. She made a disgusted face that Michael did not see. When he let go, Thais grabbed him by the back-collar of the sweatshirt and tugged him up to her shoulder. Though days ago this gesture had terrified the boy, now he seemed to understand that no matter how rough she had been, and always would be, she had still led him to food, safety, and warmth. He giggled quietly at her brutality as she draped him over her shoulder, not a smile to be found on her face, and brought him back to his friend next to the fire, and the roasting boar.

[Sorry so long... I had to transition so.. lol]

Chaz had not found the search down going so well. They demanded that he set down his gear and open it up, to show the contents. When he was moving too slowly, the knocked down his viola case to open it up, and that in turn didn't sit well with Chaz. He shoved the man out of the way to inspect the instrument, and the man fell on his a**. He got up and shoved Chaz back, to stupidly retaliate. Chaz was, like the man, sent to his a**. Chaz got up, having a calm, expressionless look on his face, same to when he first arrived at the Camp Thais brought him to. However, if you looked into his eyes, a silent fire of anger grew.

The final straw however was when they were trying to take Chaz's sword from him, to inspect it. This was standard procedure by all security details, and when they tried to forcibly take it, Chaz didn't hold back, and broke a guy's nose, rather taking any consequences that letting the pushy guards take his sword.

User Image Thais heard the scuffle, but by this time she was far away. She dropped her bag and crossbow and sprinted across the area of the barn, watching as a member of Scar, with a bloody nose, made move to retaliate again. She pushed herself between them, as powerful as any man, shoving each of them hard, "Hey, hey, hey!" She shouted at them to stop, her body positioned in between them. She snatched the sword from her fellow Scar member and held it out to Chaz, "He doesn't want it. He was just looking it over," Thais said matter-of-factly, whether it was true or not, she made it true, looking at the man harshly. She tugged out of her pocket a handkerchief and roughly pushed it near the man's face, "Go get checked out. He chanced you a good one," Thais jerked her head to the side as she walked away, mumbling only the word, "Testosterone..." She stopped several feet into the barn, now turning to watch and make sure there were no more discrepancies as she directed everyone toward where her things were next to the roasting boar. Indeed, the pathway into the ranks of the Scar was a tough one, but it was also one that paid off in the end, if you played your cards right...

[I didn't mean they actually searched you guys, but we can make this work anyway lol]

Chaz took his sword back and made a motion at the guy, as if to strike him again, and the guy flinched. But Chaz never made a move to hit him again. It was to instill fear into the man, to not mess with him again. He moved to gather his gear together and went off to the side, alone, to hand check his instruments, plucking strings, checking the horse hairs on the bows. When the men were checking him, the made notions of scars, burn marks, and bruises on Chaz's muscled arms. It almost changed the way the arms looked. Chaz then unsheathed his sword and checked the sword. He preffered being alone rather than hanging out with the group.

User Image Thais raised her eyebrows incredulously. There was no difference between this fire and the one they'd huddled next to in the Main Camp. "There's boar." It was a simple, flat persuasion. After a moment of watching him seated alone, she began unzipping his jacket and taking it off as she walked over to him. She placed the jacket on his knee gently. Of course the transition here would be rough. It always was for new members. Everyone pitched in to hassle the new guy, as was the way for everything in life. This transition was only different because the people here wanted to see just how tough their new comrade was. Thais leaned in, "I'm going to grab some food and go upstairs. Less crowded. My bed is up there, and I need sleep. Feel free to venture up there, you can put your things where the rest of mine are," she said pulling her face away from his ear and looking severely in his eyes for a moment, before standing straight and walking toward the fire to grab some food, her crossbow, and her bag which she'd dropped to break up the quarrel. As she wandered up the barn stairs she nibbled on the piece of meat, before turning to see where the girls had gone.
