It was a simple enough request and a simple enough answer. Did he want to spar for practice? Hell to the yes. the day was dull without a bit of excitement, and not trying to learn to properly wield his weapon was going to be detrimental to his progress as a hunter. With a little bit of free time the two trainees had figured it would be a good as time as any to spar and work on their moves.
Marcus had finished his lunch and had made his way to the training area. So far, he was early, but there was still time. Even so, the fog on the island was a bit thing today, a bit of sun flickering from above. Better than the usual gray they got. Flicking open the cellphone, he checked his messages. Oh wait. He didn't have any. He also didn't have any cellphones game.
Oh well, the game of life was always fun. Supposedly.

Gale was bored.
Again.
This was not really a good habit, all things considered - especially when he was here, at Deus Ex, and had a myriad of training opportunities at his fingertips.
Except he'd spent the past three hours counting all of the cracks in his ceiling.
This was neither productive nor helpful in any way, shape, or form.
Finally, fed up with the monotony and wanting to get the devil out of his room, Gale had taken to wandering the halls of the various buildings, hands shoved into his pockets. So far he hadn't run into anyone he knew yet - actually, he hadn't run into anyone, save for the various techs running back and forth looking frazzled.
The training grounds were just ahead, and they seemed as good a place as any to start out his day - properly.
Except the grounds weren't exactly deserted.
"Oh," said Gale, slowly coming to a stop in front of the other. "Marcus. Hey."
He thought it was Marcus, at least (that was his name, wasn't it?)

The shorted and younger hunter arriving got a wave. Gale was out to huh? Nothing wrong with that. The sniper hunter had done well in the last battle, even if he'd taken one hell of a beating. Then the Chill and all that s**t. Props to him for coming out for some practice. "Sup Gale? I'm kind of looking to brush up on my fighting skills. Care to join me?" That was, care to see who could kick who's a**?
True, a gun to a sword fight wasn't fair in his opinion, but Marcus figured that if he didn't learn how to deal with projectiles, he wouldn't exactly progress very far in terms of being a good hunter. "I'm trying to get better with Dis, despite his bitching, and fighting against a ranged opponent seems like it might help."

"Er," said Gale, slightly taken aback by the sudden invitation. He hadn't really thought much of the other hunter, since he didn't know him really at all - except that he and Bix did not like each other in the slightest. But Gale had not ever had a problem with Marcus.
"Sure," came the reply, after a moment, Gale letting his shoulders rise and fall in a noncommittal shrug.
There was a slight pause.
"Wait, don't you use a sword?"

Marcus was still smiling. “And how is it a problem? I figure in battle there will be times when we’re got to fight long range. So if anything it should help.” Captain optimism. Or something. Look Gale he just was bored and wanted to spar. Gun at a sword fight didn’t matter to him right now. “Let’s head on in and start. The sooner seems the better in case we end up really hurting ourselves. Which I promise to not try and do.”
You’d do it if it was that Bix And that is a problem how? It’s not.
Dis giggled in his head, mentioning how the moon hunter and his rival(?) should spar.

Gale was finding he was slightly confused by Marcus.
And wondering just how on earth he was supposed to spar with a sword wielder with a sniper rifle when one was clearly a long range weapon and the other a melee one.
Somehow the two just did not coincide.
However, Marcus was - as much as Gale disliked admitting it - right in the fact that not all fights would be equally balanced.
He gave a sigh.
"Right, yes, let's go then."

The sword summoned, Marcus smiled experimentally swinging it around. It was just as well. Sniper and sword, they could still resort to fist cuffs if they needed to. (Even if that might be..uh bad. Given that seemed less fair.)
"Now, l hope you're ready Gale." The flate of the blade tapped into his hand. "Because I'm not a guy to hold back." Dashing forward he didn't wait, the trainee was going head on.

Gale was starting to wonder whether or not Bix might have been right about Marcus.
He swung the rifle up almost automatically, holding it horizontally in an attempt at blocking the swipe of the blade that streaked towards him. Most unfortunately, however, this did really nothing, and Gale was thrown backwards several feet.
<< Oy vey. >>
"Clearly," Gale grunted, wincing a bit. He swung the rifle around, but instead of shooting it, he merely whacked Marcus in the side with it.

Marcus would have told Gale Bix is douche bigger than him and needs to stop hitting on his girlfriend because that s**t doesn't fly. But then, Marcus was a bit blind to other facts.
His body snapped to the side where Gale had hit him, and asharp sting blurred his vision. Damn that was going to leave a mark. "Alright." He cracked his neck, getting ready to go back on the offensive again.

[ errrr Gale didn't hit Marcus in the head rofl - just his side. ]
No, seriously, Gale thought, staggering from the second blow Marcus dealt. Why me?
It was obvious that the other hunter as already much stronger than he was - the unbalanced fight made it difficult to even get a hit in.
For some reason he was feeling vaguely like an elementary school kid getting bullied. Until he remembered that he'd agreed to this.
No, really. Why me?

Because Gale, Marcus was an equal opportunity brawler. Or spar-er. Person. Yeah something like that fact was, you agreed, he wasn’t going to hold back. Because hold back was stupid. The enemies they were to fight wouldn’t hold back, so why should they?
He didn’t mean to bully you though, sorry. “Come on Gale, hit me!” Marcus was certainly hitting him, (poor kid).

This was getting out of hand - Marcus, clearly enjoying himself, was having a grand ole' time beating the living daylights out of him.
At least until Gale finally bellowed "FINE!" and spun the rifle up, shooting Marcus through the leg.
It wouldn't bleed like normal with the FEAR shield up, of course, but maybe it would at least stop some of that bravado Marcus kept throwing out.

"Oh shi-" Marcus went face first into the dirt, as a burning pain shot up his leg. Gale serious the ******** up. Doing his best to get up, Marcus coughed out a "Nice shot." Clearly the kid could pack a punch. Haha, looks like he was right in his report post mission. "Don't let up okay. There's no way we'll get better if we p***y foot around. Swinging his sword, he hoped to catch Gale on his arm.

"FOR PETE'S SAKE - " Gale bellowed, letting out a string of curses as Marcus' sword connected with his arm. It was one thing to be fighting a battle that he had at least some sort of balance with, but it was another thing entirely to be fighting someone twice his size who fought with a sword.
And who was clearly kicking his arse from here to Paddington Station.
Gale swung the rifle back around, this time aiming for Marcus' arm.

"Get over it! This is nothing like our last mission you- OW! Damn it!" The hit to his arm almost send his sword from his hand, but thankfully his grip was maintained. Gale might have been smaller, but he could still hold his own. As if the last mission couldn't have hammered that in enough.
He swung wide, and bit back as curse as it didn't connect.
