Which do you prefer. Like the subbed better because I don't care for dubbed anime.

The Full Metal Panic dub is actually one of my favourites, because every voice (bar Mardukas - he's British, dammit, not a yank! Didn't the 'HMS' on his hat tip ADV off??) was bang on. In fact, the dub comes across as funnier, especially in fumoffu. There's something about hearing certain lines in English. Obviously, certain nuances are lost through the making the script suitable for lip-synch, but the subtitles are also translations and suffer similarly. Unless you can understand Japanese yourself, you are always going to have a slightly lesser degree of understanding.
In the end, I wouldn't say I preferred either. I'm quite happy to watch both biggrin

I hate to sound like an anime snob, but I won't watch anime unless its either subtitled or in japanese. I really don't care for dubbed anime and I avoid watching it at all costs.

I haven't seen the dub yet. But I do plan on buying the dvd. I'll even be brave enough to listen to the dub as long as I can. What can I say..I'm picky with VA.

I do like listening in Japanese first. I know what they sound like and what is supposed to be said. THen I like watching in english and the voices for FMP are really good. So for this anime, i like both.

I def prefer the subbed over the dubbed. In the first series its great to hear Kurtz say "Hello pretty japanese girls!: in a japanese accent XD.
I also HATE how they say Chidori in the english version (they say "ched-or-e", but its supposed to be "che-door-e")

haha, personally, I think there shouldn't be a choice in the matter. If its anime it should be watched with subtitles and in japanese... this is mainly because actors chosen to dub anime are often subpar. There are very few anime dubs that are even worth watching... unfortunately fmp isn't one of them.

There are very few anime dubs that are even worth watching... unfortunately fmp isn't one of them. Of course there should be a choice. Not everyone wants to have to read what's going on rather than paying attention to the action. And there are more good dubs than you seem to think - FMP is one of them in my opinion. The only real gripe I have is Mardukas having an American accent. What do you find so terrible about ADV's dub? Please, do enlighten us.
