Anybody else watch this show? I love it, but haven't read the comics. I don't know if I'm going to, even though my cousin says the comic is much better then the show.
Anyway, who do you think is a better leader, Rick or Shane? Or do you think neither and someone else should lead the group?
Warning: Spoilers I think Rick is the best leader. Shane's "only the fittest survive, kill whatever slows you down" attitude is just too extreme. While I agree you can't be too soft in this kind of world, Shane's way of thinking will only hurt the group in the long run. If the entire group thought the way Shane did then no one would ever be able to relax, ever. Not only would you be looking over your shoulder for zombies but your own teammates. People would steal medicine, food, ammunition, etc for themselves to better their own chances instead of equally distributing it. You wouldn't be able to trust anyone to save your a** if things were looking bad, they might sacrifice you to save themselves. ((What happened to Otis comes to mind.)) Shane plays favorites, which creates tension, leading to possible violence. For instance, Shane doesn't care about Sophia and believes they should give up the search. But he says if it were Carol then he would still be searching. Plus not everyone is mentally strong enough to handle this kind of situation for too long. It wouldn't surprise me if someone cracked and just went on a killing spree. Rick however treats everyone fairly. He doesn't give up on Sophia, even though he might not personally care for her. Rick keeps everyone in mind when making decisions, which makes everyone trust him. So even though he might have weaker members of his team, I think it's a more solid group because someone would go out of there way to help another. Plus it's this kind of community that could make things feel like they once were as much as possible. Plus the last episode showed that Rick could make the hard decisions when he had to. He killed Sophia, even when Shane didn't have the balls to after all his talk.
All in all I think Shane has become unhinged. Every time he's around I hold my breath and feel like everyone needs to walk around on eggshells lest he kill them next. Like Dale! Oh Dale you can't die! D=
Argh, I can't wait till February for the next episode! gonk

I think Shane really needs to die. From what I've heard, he was shot by Carl a while ago in the comics, though I never read them. Regardless, I can't stand him.
I neither like nor dislike Rick. I just don't feel strongly about him. I like Maggie, Glenn, and Daryl. I don't know why I like Maggie, I just do, Glenn is sensitive, well intentioned, and brave as all hell, and Daryl, while he may not be the nicest guy around, generally does the right thing. The fact that he tried so hard to help Sophia and risked his neck for T-Dog proves it.

The Emo Bard I think Shane really needs to die. From what I've heard, he was shot by Carl a while ago in the comics, though I never read them. Regardless, I can't stand him. Yeah I heard that too. But the show is very different so I wonder how they'll play it out this time. And I agree, I'll feel better when Shane is dead. I wish Dale pulled the trigger. >_< Quote: I neither like nor dislike Rick. I just don't feel strongly about him. I like Maggie, Glenn, and Daryl. Daryl because I think he's a lot nicer then he lets on, mainly because he's never been able too because of his past. He doesn't know how to react to people actually giving a crap about him. His search for Sophia and his talks with her mom show that he is willing to help the group out and doesn't mind risking himself for them. Dale I just like because he's adorable. xD Plus he's "wise". I like how he can read right through people and even though no one tells him he still knows what's going on in the group. Like he knows what kind of person Shane is. Plus I like his handling of situations.

Ah! Mästare and I just caught up with The Walking Dead yesterday. We had never seen it before so two days ago we watched the first season on Netflix and finished the first half of the second last night. (It was that good!)
My favorite is definitely Daryl. I was screaming for Andrea to be put to death when I thought she had shot Daryl in the head. Needless to say I was definitely relieved when we found that the bullet only grazed him. I also feel that he's one of the most useful people in the group. He's a very talented and successful hunter and is the best damn tracker I've seen. (Not to mention he's played by the handsome Norman Reedus.)
My favorite female is probably Lori because she seems to be the strongest (mentally and emotionally) compared to the other women. If there's one thing I can't stand it's the whiny ones. (Children are excused of course.) I find myself disliking Andrea for a multitude of little reasons. And Carol is all right by me, it makes sense for her to be a little weak since she was physically, emotionally, and mentally abused by her husband.
As for Shane, I agree that he is no longer good for the group's survival. While, yes, he is good with a gun he's causing too many rifts between everyone. I also am not sure how I feel about what he did to Otis. I can totally understand that, had one of them not died, neither one would have made it back and Carl would have likely died. But, on the other hand, I don't think I'm simply okay with him sacrificing Otis the way he did. He could have at least shot the guy in the head so that he wouldn't have to suffer through being eaten alive. Otis at least deserved that much. Shane is getting way too out of control.
All and all I fell in love with this series and can not wait until February!
EDIT: I love the Dunmer art in your signature! Great job.

Randi The Rogue Ah! Mästare and I just caught up with The Walking Dead yesterday. We had never seen it before so two days ago we watched the first season on Netflix and finished the first half of the second last night. (It was that good!) I still need to watch the first few episodes of season 1. I started watching while my boyfriend was watching a marathon of the first season a few months ago and it was already half way through. I can't stand Andrea. She's my second least favorite. She's too whiny, too emotional, too bitchy, etc. Quote: As for Shane, I agree that he is no longer good for the group's survival. All and all I fell in love with this series and can not wait until February! The reason for that I believe is because zombies only eat living flesh. So killing him wouldn't have saved Shane since they would have simply walked right over Otis's corpse, he needed Otis alive but immobile. ((Possible spoiler if you haven't seen the webisodes.)) The same reason why the bicycle girl didn't kill herself before the zombies got to her. She needed to be alive in order to distract the zombies giving her children a chance to escape. I guess that's true. I just thought that his flesh would still be warm and it would still pass for living flesh. I mean you don't instantly smell/look dead the first moment you die, you know?
I always figured the reason Hannah (bicycle girl) didn't kill herself was because she had given the gun to her kids and was without a quick way to end her life.

A dead corpse is still and silent. I think if Shane did kill Otis the zombies might have stopped at his body but I don't think it would have taken them long to figure out they were "jipped" out of a meal and started chasing Shane again. While I don't like Shane I don't really think of him as a sadistic bloodthirsty killer. ((At least not yet.)) Honestly I think Shane didn't kill Otis because he didn't want to take the chance if the zombies would stop to eat a dead Otis when he knows that they'll eat him alive. Because if he did Otis that one act of mercy it might not have even saved his own a** in the end if he was wrong. Not from some sadistic pleasure of having Otis suffer. The fact of what he did was right or not, well that's a whole other story.
