After notifying a rather unusual and interesting character, Chiyuki, who had somehow acclaimed himself leader of their, well, rather small group, Chrno had broken from his travel and adventuring companions the god-complex snow leopard and adorable bunny Karis. Karis was cute in that endearing innocent way, but Chrno wasn't interested romantically. Chiyuki made sure of that. Instead, Chrno was searching for his true love. When he had initially appealed to Chiyuki and Karis, having run across them from his own personal solo traveling, Karis had given in, seeming to understand his loneliness, and in turn, begged Chiyuki to help. The feline creature appeared disinterested and seemed to have no feeling of care, but accepted the request for help because of Karis. (Chrno couldn't tell sometimes if Chiyuki controlled Karis or if Karis controlled Chiyuki. The two were an extremely unusual pair, seeing as one was a carnivore and the other an herbivore... but they worked well, those two.)
Chrno had been trapped in an unknown place for many a year, with naught but his wings and his key--the key being his only clue. It led him on many a chase, often with just a glance at something blue, or a sniff of something familiar but unfamiliar. Because Karis and Chiyuki didn't know what his beloved looked like, they could only help him ease his loneliness. He longed deeply for her--the lock that his key was to be for. As he journeyed, Chrno ran across a troubled looking lock who seemed... stuck. Literally. She was hanging from a tree, clinging for dear life, and it looked as if her paws could not hold for much longer. Suddenly, Chrno recognized her. He remembered her. His dearly beloved. Rosette. Her lock dangled about her neck--and Chrno's key seemed anchored towards it.
Realizing he had been dazed with the sudden shock of recognition, he dashed forward, catching Rosette just as she fell. The two tumbled to safe ground, Chrno using his wings to cover them both for more cushioning. At last, they stopped rolling, and with a blushing face Chrno immediately let go of Rosette, not knowing if she knew him at all. For in this place, they were strangers. Something in the back of Chrno's mind told him as such, and that logic led to believing his dearest one might take offense to him hugging her, nearly choking her, in his desperate need to feel her warmth and the unimaginable feeling of not being lonely any longer. It was to his surprise when Rosette flung herself at him, crying, and whispering,
"Chrno! ...I finally... finally... found... you..."

She didn't know how long she searched, or heck, even traveled. But her instincts told her to keep going. She would find him. She had to. She wasn't sure how long they had been separated, but she knew that it had been for far too long. Stomach growling, Rosette sighed as she set out to go foraging. She wasn't feeling up to eating, but she knew she had to. Not that she was starving, or lacking for food, or anything like that. Hardly. Rosette loved food. She just had to be careful, that was all. And she had to be alive--because if she wasn't, he would never find her. And she would never find him.
...That scared Rosette more than anything.
So, grumbling under her breath about "stupid Chrno" and "idiot Chrno" and how she had to do all this work just to find him, Rosette saw a juicy looking apple from a rather tall tree. She walked towards it to see a wide, but deep, river flowing beside the tree, and Rosette stood at the tree's base, pondering. Well, she was hungry and she did need food, but she doubted the weak-looking branch directly under that juicy red apple. As far as Rosette knew, even her slight weight (she was sooooo not fat! No, she did not gorge on food at all! Never!) could break it.
Sighing, Rosette decided she was certainly hungry enough. Glaring hungrily at the apple, Rosette began to climb. And climb she did, until Rosette swore her paws would fall off, the tree was so big and tall, and the apple seemed like it kept escaping her grasp. Finally, she settled on that awkward branch that worried her, and just as she reached out to grab the apple, it broke under her weight. With a startled cry, Rosette managed to grab onto a stronger branch as she fell, and hung there, clinging as hard as she could. From this height, if she fell, she'd be killed, even if she fell into the river. The river was moving too quickly for swimming, and Rosette figured she wouldn't make it out alive if she let go. So, she prayed with all her might for any miracle, for her paws wouldn't be able to hold for much longer.
Just as Rosette felt her paws give out, something or someone caught her, and the momentum sent them tumbling onto safe ground. Rosette, being so shocked at the familiarity of the strength in those paws that held her so tightly, began to sob tears of relief... and joy. All too soon, however, the paws retracted from around her, and Rosette wanted to smack him. He found her. And she had finally found him. Crying, she flung herself at him, holding him to her, hugging him tight, whispering,
"Chrno! ...I finally... finally... found... you..."
She continued muttering this over and over for a while more. Her tears drying, Rosette didn't let Chrno go even as she started berating him and screaming at him about how dumb he was to leave her and how long it took to find him and how horrible it was to have to work so hard to find him. The only thing that stopped her maddening rant was Chrno's joyful, genuinely happy smile, and his gentle apology.
"I'm sorry it took so long, Rosette. I missed you..."
