The weather can always change. . . . .

Zodak walked down main street of east-city. Drink in hand, small loaf of bread in the other, she went from shop to shop looking at what the city had to offer. Compared to central it was small, but that the way the Girl liked it. Central had to many people to sense anything right, let alone know every nook and cranny of the place. The girl finished her bread and looked up at the sky, it was a flawless blue with a few bright white clouds. "Good work if I do say so myself but that rain cloud from the east may ruin my hard work." The girl scowled, and started to run toward the edge of the city. When she got there she started to draw which was just for show, and slapped her hands together placing them on the edge of the circle she began to manipulate the weather.

. . . . . . So beware the Storm.

The air was pleasant, not a cloud in the sky except for one single rain cloud in the distance. For the moment it didn't bother Edward. A smile was on his face and his suit case was held over his shoulder by his right arm. A light breeze blew the golden blond hair behind him gently and he took in a deep breath of the air. He enjoyed days like this. After taking in the sight around him he turned to look at the large suit of armor that was his brother. The smile faded slightly when he looked at him. His brother couldn't feel the wonderful sun or soft breeze. It was because of that stupid mistake long ago that got them into this mess. He was determined to change that. He'd do anything to get his brother's body back. Even if he didn't get anything he at least wanted Al to have a normal life.

Alphonse always seemed to have a sweet attitude towards his predicament. Ed knew better. He knew his brother hated being in that form but the young boy hid it well and Edward knew not to bring it up.
"Come on Al we need to get to East city before Mustang has a cow. I really don't feel in the mood to get one of his lectures...again" he said with an angry pout on his sixteen year old face. "That and I'd love to have an actual bed for once. Since our last lead was a dead end we havn't found a decent place to stay in at all." he said stretching his back.

Edward had mixed feelings towards the Colonel . Had he not noticed what they had done "that day" and had not come to the Rockbells to inquire as to who the amazing alchemist was, then they would not be in the position that they were. After losing his limbs and Al losing his body Edward had been in a bit of a depressed state. He didn't like to stay still. Only when he was getting something done, when things weren't stale, was he happy. After he had received his automail leg and arm and recovered much faster than anyone should have. Considering his age it was incredible. But his determination along with his brothers own determination got him through the ordeal. Despite protests from Pinako he left for Central and took the State Alchemist Exam. And passed with flying colors.Since then he has been able to use his rank as state alchemist to have access to the state library and information pertaining to the philosophers stone.

The Philosophers stone. The stone that could set things straight. Edward was more than convinced that this was what had been missing in their attempt to bring back their mother and it is what is needed to restore their bodies. So far all leads had lead to either frauds or dead ends. Such outcomes aggravated Edward to no end. Along with his personal matters he also had to do work for the State. As a state alchemist it was his job and if he refused then he could lose his title. He did not want that. It was the best chance they had and no way was he going to let it slip through his fingers like so many other things have.

As he looked back at his brother he noticed something odd in the distance. The only cloud that had been in the sky seemed to change. It was changing much quicker than it would naturally. Either it is a freak natural occurrence or someone was manipulating it. The possibilities intrigued the young alchemist but to find out who or what was doing such a thing would be an unnecessary detour and he knew that Mustang wouldn't take hearing "Oh we are late because we were looking at a cloud" too well. Oh well, knowing their luck they'd find out sooner or later.

Why do I fight?

For Roy Mustang, there was little to do in East Area HQ, other than play chess with General Grumman, an eccentric man in his old age.

"Well, you've beaten me again," Roy said with a laugh. "What's that now? About thirteen to one?"

"Age has its advantages," Grumman chuckled. "Work on your game my boy, and you'll be a fine chess player."

"Do you really think so?"

"I know so," Grumman replied, getting up and walking over to the window that looked down upon East City. "My days are numbered, and my eyes aren't the best. Sometimes I don't see everything that's in front of me at first glance, but the important thing is that I remember. Remember this day Colonel, and you'll do fine in life."

"Yes sir," Colonel said, saluting Grumman, he turned around to leave, when suddenly...

"My word, what strange weather we're having."

Strange in what sense? Roy thought, rolling his eyes, but he turned around anyways, to a spectacle that amazed him.

The weather in East City was nothing special, just another warm hot day after another. It didn't help that they were nowhere near any sort of permanent water source. The area was literally cloudy for about 10-20 days of the year, and usually, it was light cloud cover that came blowing in from the west, or the rare monsoonal rainstorm that crept across the desert from Xing to the east, but this was something else entirely. Clouds were quickly contorting themselves and forming into new shapes that were much faster than normal. The azure blue skys now played host to a strange dance over East City.

Alchemy, the Storm Alchemist, he deduced.

He hadn't met the Storm Alchemist before, but he knew that she was a powerful person. To be able to manipulate the entire weather like that, it was something amazing. It certainly would work for criminal acts, but State Alchemists were under the direct control of the military, and years of discipline training and weathering out dreadful battles had ground ideals of morality into them.

There's a whisper on the night-wind

there's a star agleam to guide us,

And the Wild is calling, calling

Despite popular belief there was actually was a fate worse then death. That fate would be pure and utter boredom. Little works to cure this common disease though many try to find it. Once boredom has set in it takes quite the distraction to draw the victim out of it's clutches. It could make a child waist a perfectly good sunny day or cripple a man in his workplace. Yes boredom was dangerous especially when it entraps a young alchemist who has way too many things to be doing. A groan of frustration left slightly pouting lips as clear blue eyes glared at the bright sky above her. Many who looked at the blond haired teen didn't see her as much of a threat, that's probably why she had been able to hitch a ride on the back of the old man's hay wagon. The scratch of the loose hay didn't bother Ridge a bit as she lay on her back watching what few scraggly clouds soar past. At this rate she was never going to get to her destination.

East city...Why was she coming here again? So much military presence to toy with but too much of a chance of her past catching up. That was a risk she was going to have to take though if she wanted her latest project to fall through. Ridge was on a special mission by herself leaving everyone on her crew back in South City. Hopefully for once they could survive without their alchemist. Controlling the wind like she did was hard enough without having the fear of loosing her writing instrument or pre-made cards. No this trip was to prevent that from happening ever again. There was a tattoo artist she was after in that town and if she could meet them then the danger will be well worth the risk. A smile crossed her face at the thought. It would probably hurt like no other and she would have a hell of a time writing until after they healed but it would be worth the wait.

'I wonder what everyone is up to right now...' Ridge thought softly to herself as she tucked her arms behind her head. The sun felt good on her bare arms and she couldn't help the smile that rose once more to her face. It appeared as though boredom could be cured by something else, patience. This was going to be a hell of a trip if she ever got there. So many different things could happen but what would be the one that occurred? "I just have to wait and see." Ridge said aloud as she settled in more into her bed of hay. The prickle of the hay's blunt ends blissfully couldn't penetrate the jeans she wore. Now if only her vest had been made of sturdier material. Next time she'd have to remember that.

Wisdom sails with wind and time”

Where ever the wind blows:
In the back of a hay wagon about a day's ride out of East City.
A whirlwind rages inside:
Bored, slowly becoming content
Gently the breeze blows:
This will be interesting
Whispers of the wind:
Hello everyone biggrin

The Waterbender Alchemist

This is loud, this is cold

Growing up has just begun

User Image

The cold air of Briggs was unforgiving, and the strong, hurricane-force winds intimidating, and the enormous fortress daunting, but Oliver wouldn't trade it for the world. He was presently very happy here at Briggs, the only alchemist here. He, was the Northern Wall's secret weapon. Of course, the men of the fort always held themselves up very well, for Survival of the Fittest was the ideology up here. If you die, then you're too weak to stand here. Only the strong-willed survive, and Oliver was everything that embodied that idea. Having an alchemist who was on the last stages of his teen years made everyone up here uneasy at first, but the Northern Wall, Major General Olivier Mira Armstrong, saw potential. She used him as her weapon, her counterpart to her ever present sword, and Oliver was content to serve her, even if it meant having to kill to protect the country he loved.

"Lieutenant Colonel, sir," a voice called out behind him. "There's a massive storm on the way. You'd better get inside."

He turned around. Standing there was one of the new recruits, who had been trained to rigidly follow orders. Little did he know, the higher he got in rank, the more laid back you get. Of course, that didn't apply to anyone. The stone-cold Major General would gladly sweep him aside if he disobeyed any of her orders in favor of kicking back and relaxing.

"I think I'll be fine," he replied to the man.

Turning around, he clapped his hands together, upon which two tattoos of transmutation circles were inked. Placing them into the snow, he raised a wall of ice that faced the direction of the wind. It wasn't necessary, but it should ease the recruit's nerves. They hadn't been here long enough to know how to gauge the weather. This next storm was going to be a minor one, but if it made people feel better to have some sort of extra protection to the already impenetrable Briggs Fortress, so be it. He wasn't going to be as severe as his superior.

The Storm Alchemist

The weather can always change. . . . .

The Girl looked up at the sky as she worked. After stopping half-way through making the rain cloud disappear, she had started to wonder why east city couldn't have a nice warm rain? They barely ever get any and it would be nice. Beside only a sunny city, BORING. She smiled clapped her hands and put them back on the circle. She broke down some of the atmosphere making clouds appear, after there was a nice heavy clouds covering the city she began to make them rain clouds. The Alchemist looked up as she worked watching the clouds turn form pure white to a dark grey. A little more work and she had a nice fine drizzle that was refreshing but not anywhere near annoying, sort of refreshing. She had set it up to last for a couple hours, and then drift off somewhere.

Pleased by her work, she started to work her way through town towards the military base. When she arrived she waited at the gate looking at the sky.

. . . . . . So beware the Storm.

She got up and put away the rest of the paperwork. Looking around the office seeing it was a typical day. People were working or Appearing too. She called Black Hayate to her and gave him a pat on the head and his lunch. Then she went looking for the Cornell, who was bound to be slacking off or playing chess. He had Edward coming to see him and rumor was that The Storm Alchemist was looking for him too.

She found him wrapping up a game of chess with the General who she saluted. "Cornell . . . ." her voice drifted off as it started to rain. She walked to the window and looked at it. "Rain, better keep the Cornell inside."

Why do I fight?

"Lieutenant," he acknowledged.

The Lieutenant was a smart, fine woman indeed. She was strong, and true to her name, she could hit targets with 100% accuracy. It was good to have her around him, watching his back as he prepared his rise to the top of the nation. In doing so, one would make a few enemies, and there must be someone there who could watch his back. What better person than the daughter whose father taught Roy everything he knew. She had held the secret to flame alchemy, and at her request, burned the tattoo on her back beyond recognition so as to prevent the creation of another flame alchemist, one that might abuse its power for no apparent reason. Of course, Roy would never do that.

His gaze moved towards the window, where the pitter patter of rain on the glass caught his attention. Contrary to popular belief, there was something that he could do in the rain. Water means that there is a large amount of hydrogen to ignite. Using alchemy, he could create a bomb, even in the rain. Of course, no one ever waited to hear his explanation, oftentimes reminding him of the work he had to do. Speaking of which, the Fullmetal Alchemist, Edward Elric, was due to meet him here at East Area HQ sometime soon, and he was dying to meet the Storm Alchemist for the first time.

ALPHONSE ELRIC
~:~
EQUIVALENT EXCHANGE.

User ImageIn those days
we really believed that to be the world's
one and only truth.
But the world isn't perfect
and the law is incomplete.

Alphonse walked alongside his brother as they headed toward East City to meet with Colonel Mustang. He could tell that a breeze was blowing through the area by the way everything else waved over in one direction...Though he couldn't feel any of that himself. A suit of armor didn't allow for nerve endings...Al couldn't wait for the day that he would be able to feel the wind in his hair or the sun on his back. And also...For his brother to regain his leg and arm. They'd been searching for the Philosopher's Stone for years on end, and still with no turnout. He could tell that Edward had been sorely disappointed by the last unsuccessful lead and hoped, for the thousandth time, that their success would come soon. So until that time, Al would remain in that suit of armor without complaint...Focusing on finding the stone so that they would one day return to normal.

He nodded once, briefly, at Ed's comments. His brother was being a bit impatient as usual, but it didn't bother Alphonse much. Al looked ahead as they walked. He was thinking similar thoughts to Ed's...It would be nice to get some rest after walking for quite a bit. Not that he felt physically tired like other humans, having a suit of armor for a body and all.

"I know, Brother." Al glanced up at the sky, following Ed's gaze. A storm cloud...Was it just him, or did it seem to be moving at a somewhat unnatural pace? Al would have frowned if he could. "We should find some cover before that storm cloud reaches us, if we can," he said to Ed, and scanned ahead for anything, though chances were they would probably have to walk through the rain at some point...

...But I still choose to believe
in its principle.
That all things do come
at a price.
I don't think of equivalent exchange
as a law of the world
anymore.

I think of it as a promise
Between my brother and me
A promise that someday
We'll see each other
Again.

Edward kept his gaze on the ever shifting cloud. Suddenly it seemed to grow in size and he could see that rain was coming from it. A sigh left him when he realized that it was right over the exact location they were heading. An exasperated sound was the only sign he made as to his displeasure. Hopefully the cloud would remain over just the city instead of moving to their location. Walking in rain was not fun and Al always got full of mud. Cleaning him out was a long and very boring chore. He did not want to have to do that.

"We are fine for now Al, the clouds are just over East City" Edward commented with slight aggravation in his words. "Stopping now would make us even later" he grumbled and continued his march. Inaudible sounds came from the small blond as he complained about the recent turn of events. Every so often he glanced at the cloud to check if it got closer at all. It seemed to slowly be moving in their direction and this made his mood even worse. Before he could start complaining again a sound came to his ears. Wheels, and hooves, if he was hearing right. Stopping he turned to look behind him and his brother and he saw a wagon. He smiled widely. What luck!! Now he wouldn't have to walk. Waving the driver down to a stop Edward approached him.

"Where are you headed?" he asked hoping with all his heart that he was going to East city. "East City" the man replied with a lazy drawl in his accent. YEEESS Edward thought,"Can we get a ride?" Ed asked pointing with his thumb back to his brother. The man took a long moment to look at the large suit of armor. It seemed as though he'd decline"Ah don't worry bout him. He make look scary but he wouldn't hurt a thing" Ed laughed. The man seemed skeptical but he caved and allowed them on."Just to warn ya I already have a passenger, so play nice back there" he yelled,'ya ya" Ed replied waving off the man's warning. "Come on Al" Edward said turning and moving to the back to climb in the cart.

Sure enough there was someone else there. A girl, or what looked like a girl. She looked comfortable lying on the bed of hay and he would be lieing if he said it didn't look nice. It sure beat walking that was for sure. Hoping up he found him and Al a spot in the corner closer to the driver. After he got himself comfortable he picked up a piece of the hay and placed it in his mouth and began to chew on it. His eyes then flickered back towards the looming storm cloud in the distance. Well, it seems that with this new mode of transport they'd be in East faster than planned. That was both a good and bad thing all at once. He sighed as thoughts of seeing the Colonel sooner than expected filled his head. .....Yippie....

Hatred is active, and envy passive dislike; there is but one step from envy to hate.

Envy was bored out of his mind, which was never a good thing. He was disguised in the form of a farmer, driving a hay cart to East city. At first it'd been a bit interesting, keeping the horse under control, but that had quickly grown easy after a small threat. Then, an alchemist girl had asked for a ride, but she wasn't particularly interesting either. He stifled a weary sigh, scanning the road ahead for obstacles.

A glint of sunlight on metal caught his eye, and for a brief moment, a huge grin spread out on his face, ruining his image somewhat. The Fullmetal Shrimp and his brother! Ah, this was going to be a good day after all...

He quickly smoothed the expression back to a sort of calm boredom as the brothers drew closer and began to wave. He slowed the horse, and, in response to Blondie's question, drawled, "East City," in a deep-ish voice. At the next question, he raised a red eyebrow, giving the armored-soul a long look, wondering if the horse could actually manage to pull it. Ed seemed to take the look differently, though.

Oh, well. If the horse collapsed, maybe he'd make Ed pull the cart. Equivalent exchange, and all. He shrugged, and let them get in, calling, "Just to warn ya, I already have a passenger, so play nice back there!"

Once the Elrics had clambered aboard, Envy set the cart moving once more, listening behind for an opening for some fun. Aloud, he commented, "I hope that it doesn't rain. The hay'd be ruined..." He thought so, anyway. He didn't know...nor did he particularly care, actually. The farmer who actually owned the cart might, but he was in no position to worry, being slightly dead. Oh, well. Envy had tried asking nicely for the cart, it wasn't his fault humans were so stubborn!

Envy is like a fly that passes all the body's sounder parts, and dwells upon the sores.

"Don't look down on me, you WORMS!" Alchemist girl, and Alphonse Elric. Oh yeah, and Edward! I forgot about him, he's so short I didn't notice he was there...!

"It doesn't matter because there is no exit." Hay cart half a day away from East City.

Behind the mask: Yup, the cart guy is actually Envy! ^_^ I hope the post is okay?

He followed Hawkeye outside of East Area HQ to the gates, where he caught a glimpse of the alchemist for the first time. She looked to be nothing special at first glance, as she was there gazing up at the sky, but looking past outward appearances, as he had done in discovering Edward Elric. He noted her automail arm, which reminded even more of the diminutive alchemist who was due to meet him as well today.

There's a whisper on the night-wind

there's a star agleam to guide us,

And the Wild is calling, calling

Ridge shifted when the wagon started to slow. The girl didn't pay any mind to the man as he spoke to the would be hitch hikers like herself until he warned them about her. Oh come on she was harmless....most of the time. Pulling her small pack towards her so it would be out of the way before shifting her elbows back so she could sit up enough to see her traveling companions. A single eyebrow raised in curiosity at the boy who climbed in. He looked around her age if not a little short, course that could be the angle she was looking at him at. The whole damn cart shifted when his friend joined themed and Ridge was definitely awake now. Sitting completely upright now she didn't pay attention to the hay sticking to her, no her whole attention was focused on the large man covered in a suit of armor that was apparently going to ride this rickety thing. Oh that poor horse.

'Seems a bit odd to be walking around in armor... The thought came to Ridge before she could silence it. Still it was true, what on earth was this guy doing wandering around in full armor? Did he expect a battle to suddenly drop on his head? To each his own she guessed. With a lurch the wagon started forward again and another wince left her. Yeah she felt so bad for that poor thing hopefully it got a hell of a reward for this damned trip. Eying the pair a moment Ridge found her eyes diverted upward towards the distant sky. Ick rain storm. Sure she loved the rain but as of right now she was not dressed for such a thing. Reaching for her pack once more, the young woman dug into it for her jacket. A quick brushing removed most of the hay from her back and in a moment she had on a mid thigh length coat it's hood pushed down for the moment. Now it was time to be polite and meet her trip mates. Hopefully they were the friendly type.

"Well hello there. I'm Ridge pleasure to meet you." Ridge said a note of cheerfulness in her voice. Stretching out her hand she offered it out in greeting to the two men. They seemed decent enough but she knew not to judge a book by their cover. You never knew what a person was capable of till you got to know them. "So what brings you two on this soon to be wet day to East City?" She asked before settling in a more upright position against the hay. Call her weird but she liked to look a person in the face when she spoke to them. Hopefully they wouldn't mind her asking either, any information was good information in her mind. Who knew this could turn into a hell of a trip.

Where ever the wind blows:
In the back of a hay wagon about a half a day's ride out of East City.
The wind carries all:
The driver, a suit of armor and a kid
A whirlwind rages inside:
Curious
Gently the breeze blows:
Full armor??
Whispers of the wind:
Calais my dear I love you
