I'm only asking because I'm starting to think maybe I'm just being baised. So I figured ask people that have no real connection to this situation besides the fact that I'm someone that you guys talk to on Gaia.

Ok so I'm part of this club on campus. When this all started I wasn't an officer but other than the VP getting told to step down because he basically stopped attending the officer set's still the same. But a couple years ago the president of another club on campus tried to take over our anime convention. He ended up failing through his own actions and it seems like he's out to destroy our club. Members of that club will constantly pester us with questions like "Why do you guys exsist?" or go up to me or two of the other officers and ask when we'll be stepping up as president. I should probably say that we're a roleplaying club and they're a video game club that stole everything we do except LARP. I know they stole it because our club's been around since 2001 and their club's only like 3-4 years old.
It also doesn't help that everyone and their mom on campus seem to think we're them.

They break all kinds of rules and college equipment and get away with it(you should see the lounge they took over. Its trashed. And they've broken the TVs in it multiple times) but we break one simple rule and we have the college all over us over it.

We try to extend the olive branch but we've even heard from someone that was planning on joining both clubs that they were going to deny her membership if she joined our club.

So what do you guys think we should do? We keep sending in complaints to Student Life but they don't do anything. We had a mediation but it basically gave them free reign because the person doing the mediation was bais toward them and had been trying to disband our club for years. Luckily for us she left but the ruling still stands and we just feel like there's nothing we can do.

Imma reference Ender's Game because I feel its appropriate. Ender had no choice. If he wanted to stop the petty attacks the only way he could to it was to be not just better than them but the BEST. If they did indeed steal everything from you, which me not knowing the groups cant say, then do it all better than them. If you create the clearly superior club no one will join theirs and it will break down and be destroyed.

But the question becomes how do we do that?

We volunteer at college events. We try to hold our own events. But because of Student Life we end up with the short end of the stick.

At the student senate meetings they basically praise the other club for all the work they do for the college when all they do is bend, twist, and break more than just rules.

We have our annual Christmas party on campus and we basically got told by the Dean of the business division that we couldn't have the rooms we would always have for our parties because he said that we always leave the place a mess and asked why we couldn't have it in the Gamer's lounge when we're always there.
We try to avoid that area because of how they treat us and the fact that it reaks. A cat had even got in and no one knew for weeks that it pissed in there.

This week was Welcome Week, where clubs try to recruit new students. They put our table out in no man's land where barely anybody walked by us.

Oh and it doesn't even seem to phase Student Life that most of the members of the other club aren't students and that 2 of them got arrested at our convention(they still try to make us work with them).

Edit: Though one thing we are trying is trying to do online roleplays hoping that would bring in members that otherwise wouldn't be able to attend meetings.

I dunno in that case. I mean if they are forcing you to work with them that hinders things. Maybe if you explained what things you guys do I could help more?

Well our club is supposed to be the only club to hold Magic the Gathering events, D&D(and other tabletop games), and LARP.
We also help out at Student Life events, Family Fest and Thanksgiving Dinner.
We also try to have a Native American Powwow each year for Native American month but the last couple years Student Life kept changing the date and where we could hold it so our dancers would cancel on us.

Then the other club is supposed to be just video games. But they took over and started doing M:tG events and tabletop as a club.

The mediation we had with them was supposed to get them to quit with the cards and tabletop since that's what our club's for and its in Student Life rules that no two clubs can have the same activities.

That's beyond childish. Sad to know that it seems the majority of your student rec department are that immature.

I'd withdraw your group from college participation. Become a private club. Meet privately at homes, or public places. Stop doing on-campus events. Let the other group basically -have- to make some effort to fill in those gaps, and it will become obvious when they can't or won't that they have been riding your coattails to some effect for some time. If the group truly is as shitty as you say, make them stand on their own weight. And it should become obvious that they're s**t, and that the people supporting them are s**t. I mean...if you leave, they can't blame you for the mess, or the broken objects, or anything else.

While it's nice to have campus space and time there's something to be said for being autonomous - especially when you're getting used and abused. There is no point in attempting to follow a set of rules if the org that made the rules doesn't, or keeps changing them for their own purposes. You can probably still advertise your group on campus with flyers and the like, and you would be able to open the group to a broader audience off-campus if you felt like it.

Many schools also have a policy that even off-campus groups may use facilities free so long as they are reserved by a current student. Your student-rec department won't cover that sort of site booking - it should be the facilities department - and shouldn't have any say in whether or not you're there. So long as you are on and off site when you're asked to be, and you don't misuse the site, you won't have any problems from the facilities department; I helped run a Vampire LARP on-site at a local university for several years, and we never had issues as a non-student group.

Thanks Morg. I'll ask our secretary when I see him today if he knows the college policy on that.

I know our president's been looking to buy one of the two buildings that are for sale in the town our vampire LARP's set in that have signifiance to the game. So we could pull completely away from the college. But she doesn't have the money yet for it since she pays for a large portion(if not all) of the con. And we've been looking into making our club a non-profit.

Also- document everything! Save copies and make a folder so that when things blow up you can show people, "Look, this has been an ongoing problem, we have proof!"
