"Augh, what a lazy day," yawned Renard as he nudged the doggy door open with his nose. It was a typical weekday morning, in which his Lady had just left for school and the Man was already at work. Normally Renard would have had no trouble going back to sleep, which was in fact what he did on most days. His Lady kept a box on her bedside table that suddenly started making loud noises every morning, awakening them both until she hit it with her hand. The dog would typically give a yawn and move a little so that his Lady could make the bed, then he'd curl up on top of the covers for another snooze. Today the birds had been chirping too loudly, some neighbor was using one of those big scary machines to eat his grass, some other neighbor was using one of those other big scary machines to blow leaves off his grass.... didn't people know that a dog likes to sleep in?!

Having maneuvered through the doggy door with as much grace as one can muster, Renard stood on the porch and perked his ears. The noisy machines had stopped.. perfect. He began a leisurely trot down his house's porch steps and across the cement walkway, heading for the front gate and the sidewalk beyond. The gate was never locked, only latched. It was the work of a moment, a nose, and a gentle push before the shepherd joined the cul-de-sac proper, fully intending to get on with his walk around the neighborhood.

Before he could get half a block away, Renard heard the tell-tale chittering. Sharply turning his head, the shepherd caught a squirrel in his sights. It was clinging to the trunk of an oak tree, facing the ground, with a nut in its mouth. There was a second in which the dog and the squirrel both froze. Then the squirrel, who couldn't take the pressure anymore, leaped to the ground and raced off as fast as it could. The chase was on! Renard dashed after the tiny brown creature, barking like a maniac. He wouldn't know what to do if he caught it, but this wasn't the time for such thoughts!

Quote:
This RP takes place on a random neighborhood cul-de-sac, but it doesn't have to stay there!
Depending on the way the RP goes we could progress to the park or someone's house, etc. as long as we stay in the neighborhood area.
Maybe it's best if we let the squirrel live...

An almost white akita was walking around the neighborhood, ff his shift from Summerwood and was dropped off in this strange neighborhood by his partner. "Partner Lewiz better be knowing what he's doing. I'm his partner, nt that two-legged female he's always been around lately." To be honest, he was starting to feel neglectfulness and jealousy for his master's romance in life.

His ears were cocked up, hearing the nails of a rodent run passed. A squirrel. "Hmm.. wonder what's chasing? Probably just the one of the cats I keep seeing around here." he thought. Stopping by a fire hydrant, he froze. There was another creature coming too, but what? All he knew was that it was not cat. Whoosh! Suddenly a flash of cinnamon seemed to go passed him.

Amazed the dog turned around to see what it was and saw it. A dog. "Finally some other canine around here." he growled feeling quite lonely. Being his fit self from all the exercises he had in police training, the akita ran after the shepard.

Completely absorbed in his current task of chasing the squirrel, Renard remained clueless about anything chasing him. His surroundings rushed by, turning each second into minutes of adrenaline for him. Suddenly the squirrel seemed to pivot mid-bound and it darted straight for the next tree on the block. The squirrel scrambled up the tree as quickly as it could with Renard at its heels, made it onto a high branch, and became stranded with no nearby tree to jump to.

Renard, uselessly trying to follow the squirrel up the tree, only managed to brace his paws against the trunk and hop up and down a few times. Dogs weren't meant to climb trees. Tail wagging like mad, the shepherd continued to yap and howl, and be completely oblivious to the akita behind him.

"Cheater! I'm gonna catch you!"

He stopped his run, watching the shepard. What's this dog even thinking about? Dogs don't chase squirrels, cats do. This he had to watch. It seemed to give him a large interest in this neighborhood. Maybe most dogs here did chase rodents. He settled himself down across the street out of the shepard's and any human's view. He absolutely did not want to be seen right now by absolutely anyone.

A few minutes passed and he had enough. "You do know that the squirrel won't come down until you're gone right?" he spoke poking the shepard's side.

Hearing a sudden voice, Renard froze, tilted his head, and his ears swiveled backward to catch what was being said. Where was that coming f- aahh! Feeling the poke in his side, the startled shepherd yipped as he sprung away from the tree. Only then did he see the big akita who must've snuck up on him! Looking the dog up and down, Renard swayed on his paws indecisively. He huffed. Totally wasn't startled. Nope. Not at all.

"He took the easy way out. He knew I would've caught him," he finally said. "Or she, I suppose." Catching his breath back, he glanced up at the squirrel before looking at the akita again. "So, um, hi. I'm Renard. What's your name?" Taking a few closer steps.

"Yes, I do presume that, but isn't that what all squirrels do Renard? Stupidity runs in them. They just ran across lawns and streets to climb up trees and collect their acorns." he laughed. "Though I can imagine what fun that would be."

Remembering his reason why he was here, the akita growled looking around the area. Gentling his tone, he spoke, "I'm Officer Kogeta Yuki, one of Summerwood's police dogs." That sounded stupid. "I'm sure that you have heard of Summerwood before?"

The shepherd laughed along in agreement to what was being said about squirrels. He'd never given it much thought, but it was true. Squirrels must lead relatively bleak lives compared to dogs. But they were good for chasing, that much was certain. He didn't really mean to terrorize or hurt it, but how else was one meant to give the little creature some excitement? Not to mention the rush it gave to Renard.

His forward steps halted the moment he heard the akita growl, one white paw stuck hovering in the air a few inches from the pavement. A moment later came the realization that the growl probably wasn't directed at him. Feeling a little foolish at his own jumpiness, Renard lowered his paw and glanced around to mirror the akita. He wasn't sure exactly what they were looking for, but then... ah, an officer of the law. Renard had always held a personal and unfounded opinion that police tended to be a bit paranoid.

"Summerwood?" he repeated. "Well, yes, of course," he bristled a little. Renard had heard of dogs that could read some human words, though he wasn't one of them. But just because he couldn't read the street signs didn't mean he had no idea of where he lived! He had heard the word repeated many times in his life, and like any clever dog could eventually learn, he had come to know of its significance.

"That's where we live. And I know the police station's in the city." As if he expected to be praised for being so knowledgeable. The truth was that Renard knew very little of the city or any of the surrounding areas. He was pretty good at finding his way around the suburban neighborhoods, but the dog wasn't used to venturing much further than that.

"Are you here investigating a crime or something, Officer?"
he asked, halfway between excitement and trepidation. There wasn't much crime out here in the 'burbs, but it would definitely take away some of his boredom to learn of any happenings.

He blinked realizing the somewhat fright he might have given. "My apologizes for the growl Renard. It's just something I tend to do." That was something he hoped was true. He nodded in content with the shepard's words. "Yes, that's exactly what it is." The officer felt kind of out of place, feeling like he was sounding conceited of himself.

"Sadly, no." H sighed. "Today's actually one of my breaks so my partner decided to drop me off here, well not here here, but in this area. He told me that one of his friends shall watch over me, but who actually enjoys being a human's second hand?" He thought over what he just said. "I.. I didn't mean to offend you if you are, Renard, really I didn't."

Kogeta Yuki's reassuring words calmed Renard. So we didn't get off on the wrong paw, this is good, he thought. His stance became slightly more relaxed, tail swaying lazily, ears perked in interest upon learning that it was the cop's day off. Maybe they could have some fun together?

Renard gave a soft whine at the akita's next words, sounding almost disapproving. He was only slightly mollified by Kogeta's apology, but decided to accept it and move on. Some dogs didn't like humans, that much was certain, but being a police dog was a well-respected position in Summerwood.

"It's fine, don't worry," he began, as the lead-up to the next big question. "Some humans can be nice. I would do anything for my Lady. Does your partner treat you badly?" Renard decided he might get on the cop's bad side by probing too far into his personal life, but he was just that kind of dog.

He thought of the question for a while. Well was he? "Nope, my partner's really nice to me, always treating me like how us dogs should be treated." He sighed shuffling his paws, whispering, "It's just that he's got a female companion around him the last few days. I know I'm supposed to befriend his friends, but I can't with this one. It's like she doesn't want me in my partner's life anymore." Shaking his head, he thought of the optimistic side. "At least I get to spend the day with you." he said in a truthful tone. He really enjoyed this day, without any crime to solve or anything from his ordinary life. Here, the akita could start all over, maybe even become a housepet if he desired.

"You sound very fond of your Lady." Even just saying that made his tail wag, but he didn't know why. Possibly from hearing that the dog was well treated. 'Now, is she one of those adults or pups?" He wanted to know all he could about this somewhat stranger.

Renard's tail stopped. "Oh, no, how terrible," he whined. The dog strongly doubted that he would ever be disliked by one of his Lady's friends--what's not to like?-- but he could sympathize with Kogeta's situation. It would be terrible if his Lady were to hang around with people who didn't like him! She might, in turn, grow to dislike him too, and Renard didn't think he could cope with such a thing.

"She's making a big mistake, Kogeta. Maybe it's just one of those human things. I'm sure she'll get used to you," he attempted to sound soothing. Then he chuckled a little. "But while I have you to myself, I think I would like to show you a good time. Ever been to the park?"

Renard's tail set to wagging again. He could feel the mood lightening and didn't want to dwell on personal troubles. He'd spend the day with the akita and try his best to make the cop's day off the most fun he's ever had. The shepherd tilted his head in the direction of the park and took a few steps, beginning to lead. He would wait for Kogeta to start walking, though. He wanted them to walk side-by-side, not with him in front.

"My Lady? Oh, she's a young one," Renard responded, fondly. "She lets me sleep in her bed and takes me with her wherever she goes, when she's not at school." He did miss her, but he was careful to make sure he went home every day in time to meet her at the door or in the yard as she got off the bus. No matter what.

"She is a lovely human. But, come on! Let's go have fun! We'll talk on the way."

He laughed in agreement. Yes, she will like me sooner or later, but when will that be? When one of us is dead? Nodding, Kogeta Yuki walked beside Renard, his acquaintance, no, possibly a friend. Never has Kogeta felt so close to another dog, for he has been around his partner most of his life. Maybe this was the life he wanted instead. Maybe it was time to retire. Enjoying this day would be easy, yes, he knew that already from the start.

"She sounds like a wonderful person Renard." he said looking at the side of the shepard. It was easy to picture the shepard spending the rest of the days with his lady - happy and content possibly even living up to the days she was declared a woman. "So... where is this 'park' exactly? he asked in a somewhat confused tone. "I know that there's still lots of things I have to learn about a normal dog's life, such as interacting, but I don't remember going to a park before, though I've heard some neighboring dogs tell me about the place before." His mind was going wild, imagining dogs everywhere, without any crime, a great day.

Hearing a sound, the akita stopped in his tracks, accidently leaving Renard a little bit ahead. "Hey!" He barked excitedly, "isn't that the squirrel you were chasing?" his muzzle was staring directly at a squirrel nibbling an acorn just across the street.

Happy that Kogeta was now walking with him, the shepherd settled into a leisurely gait beside his fellow dog. A cop and a house pet spending the day together! It was a bit of a novelty for Renard, knowing an officer of the law in person. The only other dogs he knew were also pets, lazy and content to never work too hard, just like him.

"The park is just down this road. You'll like it - there's space to run and jump and play. Trees, other dogs, humans sometimes…" he listed, and then ran out of things to say. It was a park. There wasn't much to it. Privately, Renard suspected that police dogs spent an awful lot of time training for their tough career and not enough time relaxing or playing at the park.

Renard stopped dead as he heard the akita shout something out, only then realizing that Kogeta was a few steps behind him. His line of sight once again found the squirrel once the dog pointed it out. His eyes widened. "Is it? Looks like him. Let's get him!" And once again the process began. Barking his head off, the shepherd raced off after the little brown creature. With two dogs chasing this time, there would be double the excitement!

This was what he was trained for - chasing the enemy down. This was sort like his job, chasing the squirrel down, like chasing a victim high of meth or some other illegal drug. He wondered if it was right to put himself into action though, it might bring attention from humans or other dogs.

Following Renard on the chase, he imagined the park. So much seemed to be going on for even a hosedog! Licking his choppers, the sensation was sensational! Today would be the best day ever with his friend. "He won't get away this time!" he barked excitedly, starting to run.

User ImageJust at the edge of the park's entrance, Snakeskin stood himself against a large oak tree, staring intently up at its branches. His tail stuck straight out, every few moments breaking its frozen stance to wag violently. A pigeon was perched towards the top of the tree, staring equally back down at him, shuffling his wings and feathers in a bored type of fashion. Feeling rather impatient, the hyperactive dog began to whine, launching himself up the trunk of the tree. He just wanted to play! Why didn't, and couldn't the bird understand that? His haunches were growing sore from balancing on them for so long, so Snakeskin merely sat upon them, his eyes still glaring up at the bird. He wasn't about to give up yet!

However, Snake found his ears flicking away from the tree and towards the direction of the park's entrance. Dogs! There were other dogs barking excitedly and heading towards the park! Maybe they could play with him instead! He now stared at the entrance, crouched low to the ground in order to spring after them if they ran past him, tail stuck in the air and wagging vigorously once again. His tongue lolled from his mouth, beginning to pant in anticipation and excitement. Based on the sound of it, these dogs were chasing something, but what could it be? His heart began to race, feeling overly excited and feeling his anxiety shoot upwards as he waited impatiently for the others to pass him by.
