On the planet Earth there exists another world. Not under it or over it, but coexisting with it. Its members walk the same streets as you, breathe the same air. This is a world of magic. An energy like any other, there exists people and creatures who can sense and channel this energy, the energy of Creation and Entropy. They are known as the mages, wizards, witches, warlocks or voodoo priests of the world. Whatever their name or group, they all share the same secret: Magic is alive in the modern world.
Magic spells, for those who can learn them, are powered by several things: Will, Purpose, Intent, Time and Place. ~Will is the inner strength of the magic user, their power. ~ Purpose is what the foci, if any, was designed for. The more appropriate the foci, the better the magic can be channeled. ~Intent is what the channeler is trying to accomplish. The words used in a spell are meaningless, it is all about the intent. ~Time has power. The more the time is appropriate to the spell, the better the effects. ~Places have power, for good or ill.
Foci are not necessary for magic, but help the sorcerer to concentrate and channel their power.
Names have power over people, and being told a wizard's full name is a sign of trust.

Name: Henry John Baxter Thorne Nickname: Gimpy, Cane. Age: 20 Height: 5’6 Hair: Black Eye: Light brown Personality: Friendly and kind, but shy. He knows he is gay, but doesn't like to advertise it. Background: Raised from birth in orphanages and foster homes, Henry never stayed in a place for very long. Soon after reaching puberty, he found out that when he wished for something really hard, sometimes it happened. Eventually his 'wishing' got him into trouble with his foster parents and he would be sent off again. When he was seventeen he met a man and his gang as they were doing some 'wishing' of their own. Kes, as he later found out he was called, was a bald, tall, white man with mystical tattoos on his body. He taught Henry all about magic and gave him a family that actually understood him. Power focus: Force, wards, and shields. Likes: Reading and the park. Dislikes: Summoning things
Name: Spettro Mezzanotte Leone Corvino III Nickname: Leo, Shadow Age: 19 Height: 5'10" Hair: Brunette Eye: blue-green Personality: Really flirty; likes to make people laugh and jokes around a lot, but when the time comes he knows when to be serious; openly gay Background: Known of his powers all his life because his parents and grandparents are dark mages known miles around if not world-wide, therefore he is known as well. He was raised and trained to be a dark mage himself, but he actually has a conscious and tries his hardest not to follow in his relatives' footsteps. He has his dark moments, though. He tries to get out the house as much as he can, too. He has no loved-ones because he is feared just by his name, and he doesn't care about his family. He roams about the city every time he gets out to try and find smoeone who's worth caring for. Power focus: Likes: Helping/making people smile, soccer/hacky-sack, figurines(preferrably hand-carved wood) Dislikes: Family, alcohol, the presence of someone even sipping alcohol

-~-Henry John Baxter Thorne-~-
Henry stood outside of the old warehouse that he now called home. Walking down the ally that was formed by the metal warehouse and a brick shed, long abandoned, he pulled a cigarette from the pack in his jacket pocket, the last one he had. Holding it between his fingers, he limped over to the fence that surrounded the building, pavement cracked and overgrowing with weeds. He stuck the white and tan stick in his mouth and muttered puroomai, the Greek word for 'burn' and snapped his fingers. The exact word used varied from person to person, as did the exact effect. He favored Greek and some Hebrew words, mixed in with some made up mumbo jumbo words in his spell crafting. The tip glowed a soft red light and he inhaled, letting the smoke enter his lungs. He exhaled and watched the smoke drift off into the twilight city sky. It rose and mixed with the smoke and smog that always seemed to obscure the stars, the price he paid for living in a big city. The park, however, would be clearer. It was a huge piece of landscape, broken by trees, rocks, benches and two ponds. Despite the large size of it, people only called it The Park. It needed no special name in his opinion. It was special all by itself. Finishing off the cigarette, he flicked it into an old pot that was filled with slimy water and other butts. Shivering in the cold night air, he wrapped his jacket more firmly around himself and limped back to the ally where he left his polished hardwood cane. Back when he first came to his powers, around fourteen or so, he had visited an occult shop and stole a book of spells from it. There was an accident and the nerves in his leg were ruined as a result. The skin and bone of the leg was normal, but he could never walk without the aid of a cane or crutch after that. He had only told one person what had happened, a lover he left behind all those years ago. Hayden walked to a side wall and walked right through it. The veil of magic tingling as he passed the illusion. In front of him there was now a door. He spoke the words that broke down the wards, wards he himself had helped to set up. He opened the faded door and brought the wards back up with a few more words. Ton and Fitz nodded to him as he passed, leaning to the right on his cane. Fitz was their best illusionist and he helped maintain the veil. Ton, well, he was just a badass. Good at fleshcrafting spells too, nasty Indian juju s**t. It was ******** gross as hell to watch him do it. Some of the spells even required a few extra limbs to preform.

Spettro "Finally..," breathed a dark figure as he stepped out of his house and closed the front door. "Goin' crazy in there." He looked up at the night sky as he walked down his overly-extensive driveway. Since his large front yard wasn't lit up as much as the rest of the city, he could see the stars pretty clearly. He loved his nightly walks especially in the cold air--that meant not many others wanted to face the chilly breeze and disrupt the calm silence that overwhelmed him. He loved his nightly walks. It eased his mind from all the chaos in his household. That chaos he wished he could completely escape.
He was snapped back to reality when someone ran smack into him. "Oh! I'm sorry. I wasn't paying attention," he explained quickly, helping the other one back on his feet. "Are you alright?" Bright silver eyes that looked up into his made him catch his breath. He stood there dumbly for a few moments before finding his mind again. "Oh... You're alright, right?" he asked again, in kind of a daze. There was still no answer. The eyes just kept looking up at him. "Can...can you speak?" he continued questionably. He noticed the wavy, brunette hair sway in the wind as the smaller male's head shook "no." "How old are you, ten?" he asked. The boy couldn't have looked older than that. The brunette shook his head then held up two hands, one with five fingers held up, and the other with four. "Nine?" A nod. "Where are your parents?" A deep frown settled on the smaller's face. It was then that he noticed the redness around those shining eyes and the tear streaks running down his cheeks. "I see..." He thought for a moment. "Do you have another place to go?" he asked. The boy shook his head. The older one frowned a bit. He touched his fingertips to the boy's forehead and mumbled "Tepore." He felt the boy's skin heat beneath his fingertips. "That should keep you warm for a while..." He half-expected the boy to be frightened, but when he made no reaction, he didn't question it. The boy had apparently been through something traumatizing already. He was sure some magic wasn't going to do anything now. "My name's...Lancaster. What's yours?" The boy held up a sign. The taller male blinked. "Okay...how about we go through the alphebet. A?" A nod. "Alright, we're already gettin' somewhere," he said with a smile.
After around five more minutes of sifting through the letters, he figured out the boy's name was Adrian. "Adrian...would you have any objections to me finding you a place to live?" Adrian nodded. Lancaster furrowed his brow. "You...don't want a place to live?" A shake of the head. "Why..?" Adrian just stared up at him. He then turned and walked away into the darkness, Lancaster just watching him with a confused gaze.
As soon as Adrian cut a corner, he shrunk and shifted to the form of a cat with a sleek black coat. He rounded a few more corners then walked through the same veil of a wall that Henry had phased straight through. He transformed into his true form and mumbled the spell, slipping through the door before putting it back up. "Hey, Henry," he purred before transforming back into his favourite form--a cat--and slinking over to the one he addressed, purring more as he rubbed his face against the other's ankles. In reality, Adrian was a tall twenty-one-year-old who could speak completely fine. He just liked to play games with the people around town. Adrian

Henry felt the cat rub his head against his legs. He knew it was Adrian, even if the other man had not spoken he would have known. Reaching down, he scratched him behind the ears the way he would a real cat. One of the two by the door snickered. It sounded like Fitz. Henry flipped him off and walked away, towards the area that was the kitchen. It use to be that petting Adrian while he was a cat was weird, simply because he knew what the man actually looked like. But after a while, he grew o.k. with it. At least while the man was a cat, and not a human. He often chanced back to human while watching t.v. without Henry knowing and the others would have a good laugh. Henry was gay and many, if not all, of the others knew it, but he hated to be so obvious about it.
The cat Adrian followed, mowing after him. Henry opened the shared freezer they had salvaged from somewhere and pulled out a frozen meal. He made a face at it and Terra, who was already in the 'kitchen' said, "Hey, if you don't like it, get a job and buy some real food."
He tossed the box gently at her head and gave her a saintly smile. "Would if I could." he said. He retrieved the box and opened it up, putting the food in the microwave, also salvaged. "So what have you been up to Aid?" he asked the cat. "Pretending to be an old lady bench pressing weights?"

Spettro Adrian hopped up onto the counter and sat down on the edge, morphing back into his human form. "Not quite," he said with a grin. "Or, I should say, not this time. I actually met another wizard, mage, whatever the terminology is nowadays. I was a little mute kid that pretended to just lose my parents. I ran dead into him. Though he looked a bit dark, he was actually really nice. He even offered to find me a place to live and wormed warmth into my body by way of magic. I think I confused the s**t outta him, though. He asked me a question and I got bored so I just walked away. It was fun nonetheless." He shrugged a bit and kicked his feet idly. "He seemed pretty loaded. His name was...Lancaster? Yep, that's what he said. He seemed to think about it for a minute before saying it, though, so I don't think it's his actual name." He smiled over at him with a cat-like grin, shaggy hair wild. "What'd you do today, Henry?" he purred. He allowed two cat ears to pop out from the top of his head and a long, black tail to grow from his tailbone. He often walked around the home in this form so he could talk and still feel like he was a cat. His demeanor was usually cat-like anyway. It suited his attitude as well. He was so mischievous is was actually pretty entertaining. It was entertaining to watch him mess with someone, anyway. It wasn't so entertaining when you were the one being messed with. "And can you make me a sammich?" he asked in a child-like voice, ears twitching. "I'm hungry from all that mischief. And I'm sooooo lazy." He laughed a little, head tilting back. "And you always make them just how I like 'em."
Lancaster, after being utterly confused, just continued on with his walk, deciding to use the ladder that ran up one side of the buildng the others were in. He climbed up to the roof and sat down on the edge, looking up at the starry sky. On top of buildings it was much easier to see the stars because there weren't any street or building lights clouding your vision. It was nice. He watched as a star shot across the sky and faded. Remembering the old story of "wishing upon a falling star will cause it to come true," he chuckled to himself. He was well over believing that. When he was smaller, he would always wish upon one, hoping upon hope it would come true. It never did. He didn't believe in that bull anymore. It was a waste of time and wishes. Until his wish that he had a different family that actually cared about his opinion came true, he wouldn't invest a single ounce of hope into shooting stars. Adrian

"Hmmm, let me think." He tapped his chin in thought. "Make a sandwich for someone not me...That's a tough one." Henry grinned. The microwave beeped and he pulled his food out from inside it. Looking straight at Adrian he scooped a big bite in his mouth and made satisfied chewing noises right up until the heat hit him and he started making a muffled pain noise. When he finally swallowed the lava hot food he asked, "So this Lancaster guy, he did magic out in the open? Wasn't he afraid someone would see? That you would see. I'm assuming he didn't know what you really were." He pulled out all of the ingredients to make the kind of sandwich Adrian liked but only laid them out in front of him.

Spettro Adrian just sat there with his arms cross, a smug look on his face as Henry didn't think about the temperature of his food. "It's karma, Babe," he said simply. Once Henry started talking again, he shrugged. "It wasn't anything flashy. He just touched my forehead, mumbled something in Italian, then I heated up. And I was disguised as a little nine-year-old mute that was crying and shivering--maybe he didn't care what I thought of him. maybe he just wanted to get me safe and someplace warm. He did offer to find me a home." He then grabbed some bread, beginning to make his sandwich. "Of course he didn't know what I am. I didn't tell him. And if he has a way of sensing it or whatever, he didn't say anything or act any differently than he had been." Once the sandwich was put together, he took a large chunk out of it, chewing happily. He reached his feet out and pulled Henry to him, wrapping his legs around his waist once he was right in front of him. He grinned down at him after swallowing then hugged him tightly. "Thank you for encouraging my laziness," he sang and kissed his cheek before releasing him and continuing to devour his sandwich. He jerked to a pause, though, going completely still. His ears twitched as did his tail. "Someone's on the roof," he said in a emotionless voice, eyes staring blankly ahead as they glossed over. Adrian

Henry immediately shut his eyes and reached out with his mind, his senses. The counter under his fingers became more detailed and he could feel bumps and grooves in the worn surface. The smells around him became sharper and easier to identify. The smells of dozens of people, many years of habbitation, and countless smells of food made or stored in their kitchen. He could taste the food he just ate even more clearly then when he first put it into his mouth. The pain from the burn was still there. His eyes closed, all he saw was black, leaving him to focus on his enhanced ears, now easily picking up the faint scraping sound of rubber on metal. A person on the roof. All of this information came to him at once, painting a picture of his suroundings inside his mind like a digital computer model.
"I'm going to see who, or what, is up there. I'll yell if I need help." Henry picked up his cane from the counter and quickly moved to a door that led to an outter ladder. He wanted to be quiet as he moved up the side of the building, but he knew with his bum leg that was impossible. He closed his eyes again and prepared a spell he really hated using because of its fickleness. Reaching into his cargo pocket, be brought out a pure white feather and an uncut amethyst. Gathering up his willpower he muttered epios ris lit, which was greek for gently and a made up words for rise lightly.
When he finished his incant, the stone glowed gently in one palm and the feather seemed to lift him up, his feet hanging above the ground. He soon reached the top of the building and willed himself forward. When he was safe to land he passed the feather over and under the stone to cancle the spell. The person, a man that he could see, was looking up at the sky away from him. Henry grinned and snuck up behind him, wishing he had one more cigarette. If he did he would say something like 'Wanna light?' and offer the stick to shock the man. Instead he settled for, 'Nice night, isn't it?"
***
Across the street and down a few buildings a man dropped his duffle bag beside him. Kneeling beside it, he unzipped the bag and pulled out some heavy military grade binoculars and set them to his eyes. Searching the night shrouded rooftops, he found the man he was after talking to another. He focused on them and tried to see what they were talking about by reading their lips.

Spettro Lancaster smiled softly with a nod, not moving his gaze even a bit. "Yes... It usually is, but no one down there ever realizes just how beautiful the world really, truly is," he rambled a bit then continued. "Though, living in this cement block it's understandable. Many here have only seen the beach--maybe. The natural world is such a more vast, free, and interesting place to explore than this grey and neon place." He swung his feet a bit idly. His gaze suddenly flashed down to the world below, straight to the man following him. He pulled out a cigarette and lit it before offering it to Henry. "You smoke?" he asked with a small smirk. "Do you live in this building? Or is this your Garden of Eden, too? Your small, peaceful world? I come up to clear my head often." Adrian

Henry raised an eyebrow in surprise. The man seemed to almost be expecting him. He didn't comment however as the man spoke. "That was very poetic of you." He took the offered cigarette and took a a deep breath through it, causing the end to light up, his face glowing red.
"Do you live in this building? Or is this your Garden of Eden, too? Your small, peaceful world? I come up to clear my head often." the man said. Henry took another drag and thought for a second. "No." he finally said. "I do live here I mean, but this is not my Eden. My Eden is actually not far from here, the Park. It's so peaceful and the night seems to shroud it in mystery and excitment, things that the sun seem to drive away, though it it still enjoyable in the daytime. Too many kids there though." He leaned his cane on a nearby A/C unit and set his back to it. Placing his hands on either side of it, he lifted himself to sit on its corner.
"I don't think I remember seeing you before. You say you come here often?" He was also surprised the man did not trip any alarms or wards. "My name is Henry by the way." He did not ask for the other's name. If he wanted to give it, he would.
***
The figure, unseen by either man talking on the roof, continued to listen. He drew out a pad and paper, writing down what he though they were saying. So far it was nothing of consequence, but he waited to see what he came here for. He settled in to wait.

Spettro "I see," Lancaster commented in a soft voice. "The Park is nice as well. I still enjoy it up here. Even though it's a cement world, the pattern any lights seen from here make is gorgeous. Plus, I can feel the wind in my hair as I sit here on the edge, feeling as though I could fly. It brings me inner peace--quite the opposite of what I normally recieve." He chuckled softly. "How did you find yourself living here? Do you have no where else to go? I suspected this building was abandoned. I had no intention of invading someone's property." He breathed in the cool night air with his own newly-lit cigarette's smoke then released the toxins into the night. "You can call me Thomas, if you'd like. And, yes, I do come here very often. Well, as often as I can, anyway. As I said, I enjoy sitting here and enjoying the night air anytime I can get out of my home and roam free. If I happen to pass this way, I spend the rest of the evening up here until I absolutely have to go back home. I honestly don't enjoy being at that place much. I don't agree or fit in with any of my family. It's a very...difficult place for me to be." He smiled slightly to himself and took another drag of his cigarette. "What is your relationship with your family? I wouldn't imagine you would live here alone. Even if you're not related by blood or marriage, they're your family if you live with them." He smiled back at him casually, eyes shining.
Adrian transformed back into a cat from his bird form which he used to fly up onto the roof. He hopped up on the AC vent with Henry and purred, curling up in his lap. He and Henry had a kind of connection... Adrian always seemed to bring it upon himself to protect Henry and watch over him. It wasn't just because he had a bum leg--it was because Henry was a part of their small family, and Henry was like the big brother he never had. He wanted to make sure he was safe. Adrian

"No family to speak of. I've bounced from orphanage to foster home and back again." He bounced the heel of his good leg against the A/C. "The people here are the closest to family I can count. We live here and...study together. It's a good life I guess." He idly scratched Adrian behind the ears as he talked. Aid was like a brother to him, since as far back as he could remember being a part of the group.

Spettro Thomas nodded to Henry's short explanation. He then eyed the cat. There was no way in hell a cat could actually get up there. A normal cat, anyway. He studied the thing before his expression softened and he let out a laugh. "I guess I've been fooled," he said openly to himself, taking a long drag on his cigarette before flicking it off of the building. He stared back up at the stars. "Shapeshifter, huh?" he more stated than asked, smirking a little over at the cat. Adrian suddenly appeared as the little boy Thomas had seen earlier. "How'd you guess?" he asked in a child's voice, though before he was mute. "It's the eyes. You should work on that. They'll blow your cover every time, I assure you." He nodded to the boy with a sly smile. "I guess that means I'm busted, too. It's only fair, afterall, that you know I'm neither Lancaster nor Thomas. I won't, however, let you know what my real name is. Don't feel left out--I don't tell anyone. It's really a self-conscious thing." He shrugged. "And...are you just a mage, or are you a shape-shifter as well?" he asked politely, looking back at Henry. He turned around so his back was facing the one on the sidewalk below and waited patiently for an answer. Adrian
