The Amalur demo was released on the 17th and I snagged it for XBox yesterday. Thanks to a series of small disasters I was able to play (don't ask, it boggles the mind) and promptly ran to Amazon and pre-ordered on my already over-taxed credit card.
It's amazing. My beloved Oblivion fan will probably adore it. heart Visually it's dazzling (as long as you ignore the actual character weirdness. Worse than Dragon Age, better than Dungeons or Dungeon Siege III...thereagain it is a demo so who knows what we'll get in 19 days?) Flowers to pick, people to talk to, fish to chase in bodies of water, deer to pick on. But if you see something that looks like a bison crossed with a ram crossed with yak crossed with an ox don't (for the love of Pete) stand directly in front of it. It'll mess you up.
Leveling interface is a little odd though I think once I have a clear explanation and some time to play with it I'll come around. Equipment interface is just about the same. Some good, some bad. There's a junk button. I need to make better use of it.
Combat reminds me a little of Devil May Cry and yet is light years beyond it in some respects. It helps that I've recently played Dragon Age and Divinity II which are in their ways both a little more complicated. It made Amalur's action interface almost instantly make sense. (Aside from the fact that there's also instantly about 3 dozen things to remember. sweatdrop )
My last note about the demo is this: It's not standard. You *think* it's standard when you start. You get your little cutscene with the history of the world and your character build (4 to choose from! 4 or 5, I've slept since then--and doubled if you count gender against it) and your little cutscene telling you where you are and what you're doing in vague terms and bewm, you're in the game. Running around, doing stuff, fighting things, looking at the insanely detailed setting. You leave one area, enter the next, run around a bit (if you're me you chase deer and giant goldfish) have a conversation w/somebody....
And then a timer starts. From that point (I'm trying not to be too spoilery) you have 45 minutes to do stuff before the game ends. Subtracting conversations, pause time and "vending." That my friends is NOT standard demo behavior. I managed to squeeze five hours out of it. Far less than say the Witcher demo, far more than the Dungeon Siege III demo though for the latter I was able to do SO MUCH MORE in the scope of the game.
I think if you mind what you're doing on a second playthrough you can do even more than that. Next go I'll be avoiding the person that I think started the timer.
Oh yeah, and like many demos from the last couple of years there is no saving. I managed not to die. I'm not sure how I did that. XD

Is the full title of the game Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning?
If it is, Wikipedia is telling me R.A Salvatore created the game universe and lore...and the lead designer of Morrowind and Oblivion designed the game....I already love it heart

Mel takes good care of us. And yes Micherru that is the one. That title seems to have an all-star production crew. It tempts one to drop a job or two just to free up time. +L+

V>I feel faint! eek
Mich>Oh my yes. And you're my beloved Oblivion fan. heart I also thought some WoW people were involved too but it's been a crazy few days and my memory is patchy.
In any case I thought you guys might want a head's up. I've had great fun with the demo. Can't seem to get more than about 3 hours out of it now that I know the gist of the conversations and where everything is in the Well of Souls. Still. I cannot wait for the 7th.

I'll have to look more into the game when I have some free time.

Hmm, that might be the problem. As it is I'm nowhere near as far into skyrim as I thought I'd get and the games are piling up sad Oh well.

V>*plops* blaugh
Minor Evil Hmm, that might be the problem. As it is I'm nowhere near as far into skyrim as I thought I'd get and the games are piling up sad Oh well. Ooh, what's your list? (Or is it just Skyrim and Amalur?) Mine's embarrassing...
Never finished (or never started) : Devil May Cry 3, 4 Divinity II Ego Draconis, Flames of Vengeance Dungeons Witcher, Witcher II Oblivion (may well never finish this one though) Might and Magic V (or is it IV or VI??) Might and Magic Clash of Kings Heroes(the puzzles are freakishly hard) Rune Factory II Dragon Quest IX Marvel vs. Capcom Fate of Two Worlds X-Men Next Dimension (might never happen, the AI is BRUTAL) Ultimate Alliance 2 (for the PS3 which is way different than the PS2) X-Men The Official Game (another I may never finish as it's painfully difficult) Prince of Persia (PS3--hate this thing) Amalur (as of the 7th of Feb) Dragon Age II (XBox=regular and PC=signature edition) Wolverine: Origins (for PC, finished the PS2 version which is different enough to be a completely different game) Eyepet Edit: Oh yeah almost forgot: Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Will be getting: X-Men Destiny Skyrim
Games 1+x finished but with open playthroughs: Champions of Norrath, Champions of Norrath 2 Dungeon Keeper 2 Baldur's Gate (with full expansion) Torment Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines (several open games across 2 PCs) Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition (PC and XBox, several open games. This might count for the 1st part of the list as I've only done about 25% of the DLC and have never started the expansion which for Ultimate is bundled) Devil May Cry 2 X-Men Legends X-Men Legends II Theme Park World (can't make it work on PC anymore--yet) Insanaquarium Deluxe 2xMahjong games on PC (been long enough I don't know the titles) 2x Might & Magic games (#'s escapes me at the moment, I had the whole series including the very first game up to 3 years ago)
At one point in time I think I had a 2nd Icewind Dale game open but I don't think I liked that one very much.
And then there are the games that were open but thanks to constantly changing PCs will no longer work on any system Rage of Mages, Rage of Mages 2 Magic & Mayhem (one of the greats) Menzoberranzan (how I miss it) Dungeon Hack (it's like PC game junk food) Doom Plutoni(a, um?), Doom TNT Hexen

Wow Felly...thats one hell of a list. Mine pales in comparison really.
I've got Skyrim, I never properly finished oblivion (my brother deleted my game). I've been trying Saints Row three and want to finish that. I never did finish ff 7 and 9...but they're at home.
And that Amalur looks really interesting so we'll just have to see.

Don't think of it as pale so much as really less embarrassing. (Or depressing as the way my life is going 90% of those will never get finished/worked on.) xp
Yours is a respectable little list. ^_^ Tidy. Interesting. I've never played a FF game.

Then when you finally reach retirement you'll have a long list to do with your twilight years razz (They'll get played evenually, I know finding time is hard)
There are probably a couple more off of there to be honest that I've forgotten about .I know I have a ton of ds games i've barely started...oh and Portal 2 I was just starting to enjoy when i lost the disc Hehe I love ff9, 7 doesn't live up to the hype

I'm a homemaker. I don't get to retire. crying Plus w/H in declining health unless that divorce thing actually goes through it'll all just get harder as I get older. Hell, today alone I've already tackled 21 tasks and am about to move on to 22, 23 and 24. (Multitasking goddess.)
I hate lost disks! gonk
Now if I didn't count the ones I've barely started the list would be shorter--by 7 as a matter of fact. (I was curious XD) None of my DS games would go tho. Open plays should go up by 1 though. I forgot I've got an open game on Dungeon Siege III.
Tentatively on one of my wishlists I have FFXIII and FFXIV but in light of what I learned about myself and my gaming habits today I'll probably never get 'em. XD

Oh Baldur's Gate how I love and loathe thee.
I have the 2nd Icewind Dale game, but I have yet to install and play it. I need to do that sometime...
And what was Menzoberranzan? I know that's the name of the Drow Underworld in Forgotten Realms.

Aww Mel, I guess you're right that it'll get worse...but he has to sleep sometime razz
Wow that's quite a difference though. But it does seem you have lots of games that you're just not getting to.
I always liked baldur's gate.
