I can see the future for these boys!
Boy 1 Name: Rai'Talun RPer: Ruhane Chiisai A bit about him: A lax, water-off-the-scales kind of pup A bit about you: Weird, RP fanatic, lover of Raves and warm colors. Found easiest on IM)
Boy 2 Name: DeValo RPer: Kazzmonkey A bit about him: The opposite of Rai'Talun. DeValo plays by the rules. He hates cheaters and takes things way too seriously. Someday it may get him into trouble. A bit about you: I'm interning in a 4th grade classroom Mon-Fri so I don't have as much time as I'd like to spend doing things like writing. I enjoy RP but generally take a little while to reply.

DeValo eyed his sisters from a spot in the bushes. His practice had paid off and his steps made very little noise. The girls had a sort of best-friendship thing going. At least, that is what it seemed like. Granted, they didn't really know anyone other than their parents so the idea of being friends with anyone else never really came to mind. DeValo wasn't quite so close. He was jealous of his sisters' bond. He got to play with the others naturally, but everything somehow felt less special that what the girls seemed to have. Devalo's habit of watching his sisters chat and play only started a few days ago.
DeValo and the others had been playing like any other day. It was girls vs. boys, as they liked it. DeValo and Rai'Talun were to hide and the girls were meant to find them. The boys ran off into the forest together and chose hiding spots near the same tree. DeValo climbed up the tree and waited... and waited... and waited. It did not take long for him to get utterly bored. He looked at Rai'Talun's hiding place, but couldn't see him. In another minute or so the girls came walking by. DeValo was thrilled as that meant the game must be nearly over. Surely he and his brother were not such amazing hiders that the girls wouldn't find them.
Unfortunately neither of the girls even bothered to spare the tree a second glance. They were looking for the boys of course, but they almost seemed like they were having too much fun. They weren't taking the game seriously enough. They were talking to each other about the beauty of the forest when they should be discussing strategy and narrowing down where the two boys could be hidden. DeValo remained quiet for as much as he wanted to get out of the tree and move, he still wanted to win. He watched the girls search the area (a rather inexhaustive search in DeValo's opinion) and waited quietly. When he decided they were far enough out of earshot he jumped out of the tree. On soft as a feather paws he zipped over to Rai'Talun's hiding spot.

(Name: Rai'Talun RPer: Ruhane Chiisai A bit about him: A lax, water-off-the-scales kind of pup A bit about me: Weird, RP fanatic, lover of Raves and warm colors. Found easiest on IM) Rai had watched his sisters wander past laying on his side, and gave a yawn, while they picked at a berry shrub. They weren't even really trying. He rolled his eyes and gave a long yawn. He let himself drift to lay on his side fully, his dark figure lining the shadows beneath the bush easily, until he was looked for. His tiny stature made it easy to reach cramped spaces and fit into them, too. he'd almost drifted off to sleep completely when he felt his brother meet the ground. Being splayed accross the dirt the way he was was helpful to tracking such things, with his ear laid accross it. He snerked softly awake, and looked up at the his brother, bigger than him by just enough to make him look huge when laying accross the ground. He batted at his brother playfully, as if to dispel his own anxiety. For all the laid-backness this pup had displayed almost since birth, he seemed to have problems with 'loomy' things, and frequently found high ground to make things seem less imposing. How he'd found himself under the bush? ... He hated being in trees. Trees were bigger than everything. And it was a long fall out of one. They made for good cover, though. At least they were good for that, in a game of tag.

"Did you see that?" DeValo pouted. "They weren't even trying! Why did they suggest this came if they don't want to play it right!" The little kage plopped down beside his brother. "Did mum and dad say when they'd be back?" He blew at a dried leaf on the ground. Maybe the girls had suggested the game to get away from them. DeValo didn't like to think that his sister's disliked him, but sometimes he wondered. Usually at times like this, when he was bored and annoyed. With himself or with them he wasn't sure which.

Rai gave a dismissive shrug and sighed. "Yeah, I saw it..." He murmured, peering out into the clearing again. "... I thought lazin' around was my gig..." He muttered, rolling over on his back and coiling about in the dirt, to get the earthy powder in amongst his scales and scratch an itch he was too lazy to bend his ankle for at the same time, his thin tail whipping back and forth with the odd motion. "Ah well..." He muttered, rolling to his side and stilling himself, again. "Um... Sometime closer to sundown, I think?" He muttered vaguely, looking up at the bright sky. It wasn't helpful at all, really...

How is it, that a game that sounded like such fun in the beginning could turn out to be so boring. DeValo watched his brother wriggle around in the dirt. He crouched down low then pounced on him. "Scared yah!" He wasn't terribly good at wrestling, but given the element of surprise he managed alright. "Hey, maybe we should try that." DeValo smiled viciously. "When the girls come back by here, we jump out and scare them. That'd show them for not taking this seriously. And! And we'd be doing them a favor. Y'know the woods are dangerous, they shouldn't be wandering around without at least attempting to watch for danger."

Rai yelped and felt his legs roll and coil before they slammed into his brother's chest to push him away. The little brute rolled to his own paws on the momentum before he slid deeper under the bush, tail coiled between his hind legs. It wasn't until, wide-eyed, he rested against the base of the bush's roots, cringed and coiled, that he managed speech, baring sharp baby fangs at his brother's antics. "Don't... DO THAT TO ME!" He snarled, his rumpspines standing tall and his ears flared to either side, tiny claws bared and ready for a defense, rearranging the dirt beneath them. "I DON' LIKE IT!" He growled back, as if in response to a suspected question, and slowly worked his muscles into an uncoil, to lay at the bush, eyeing his brute of a brother warily. He had tried, before, to figure out why he was scared of bigger things... But, everything, from his brother to his mother to the trees, all just... Seemed like it would jump on him at any moment, sometimes. The panicky little tendencies he had didn't match his laid-back attitude towards everything else, and it made him wonder if something was wrong with him.

DeValo shrank back a bit. It was easy to forget how skittish his brother was. He hadn't meant to really frighten him. He was just being playful. "Sorry Rai, I forgot..." He sat down a way from his brother. Best to give him some space. "What is it you are scared of Rai?" It wasn't a mean question, merely a curious one. DeValo knew he would never hurt his brother intentionally. He wasn't sure why Rai seemed to think differently. "Maybe we should try to fix it... whatever it is. I don't like it when you're scared."

The skittish half of the pair was visibly sulking, under the bush, and laid his head between his paws. "I dunno..." He grumbled, irate at himself, now for being so skittish, for not knowing why, and, atop of that, for attacking his brother for playing. "I just... I am..." He was quiet for a long moment before he raised his head to look at Devalo again. "... Mom and Dad scare me too... And the den, and the trees. I don' get it." He was quiet for a long moment, wondering if his brother would pick up on the common theme, here. "I just... It feels like... Anything could attack me at any time..." A few moments of thought passed, while he expected ridicule, or funny looks, before he brightened and interrupted anything in the process of being spoken. "Hey, Mommy says our souls were someone else's right? Maybe the guy that had my soul before was broked... And it's not just me..."

"Broked?" DeValo didn't think his brother was broken. Over-sensitive maybe, but not broken. "I don't think you are broked..." There had to be some way to help his brother get over his fears. Their mother and father probably wouldn't help much as Rai'Talun was scared of them too. Then again, Rai'Talun was scared of DeValo too. Still, maybe not as much. DeValo wasn't much bigger than his brother. The mention of their previous souls sparked an idea. "Maybe we could figure out who your soul belonged to before. Maybe that would help us figure out why you are scared." DeValo had no idea if that was even possible, but maybe it was worth a try.

Rai looked up at his brother, hope at the idea remaining in his beady eyes. "Yeah! Maybe that could work!" He eyed his brother a moment before padding out from under the bush to stand up and shake his tiny scales. "So... What do we do first?" He muttered, almost waggling his little tail as he sat in place. "... Is there... Someone we go talk to, or something, to find out? Like..." He thought for a moment. "OOH! The guy who makes people die! Or... The one who manages souls, or something?" He paused and sighed a bit: he'd never heard of such a thing. WAS there someone who's whole purpose was to account for the souls, or provide deaths to those deserving and ill? "And... Where'd we find him...?"

"I... have no idea." DeValo was encouraged by Rai's acceptance of the idea. He jumped up in to the tree. "I'm gonna try to see if there is anybody we could ask." As he climbed his confidence grew. Surely someone would know who was in charge of souls. He called down to his brother, "If we don't find anyone, maybe mom and dad will tell us. We might have to pretend to just be curious though. I don't think they'd be happy if we told them we were going to go find such a person." He was getting higher then he usually went. The breeze was cool and the skies clear though getting darker, but there weren't any new kage around. Off in the distance he thought he saw his sisters coming back in their direction. In the other direction, he could clearly see his mother and presumably his father. They probably would not have time to do much searching today. He started his descent. "I don't think we'll be able to do much tonight," he yelled as he jumped from branch to branch. As he descended the branches seemed to get harder to see. It was only a matter of time before he missed and crashed to the ground. Luckily he didn't fall far. He was a little dizzy when he stood up, but figured he'd be alright. "We'll try again tomorrow."

Rai bit his lip as he realized the forest was growing darker, and stepped towards the tree. His brother's misstep brought a little yelp from him and, mostly without thinking about it, he made a dive. A little guffaw choked from his throat when his brother landed, and he looked sheepishly up at the brute from under him as he stood up. "Yeah...." He muttered, his little voice cracking some. "T'morrow... You okay?"
