Pina was sitting quietly beside a stream at the fall of dusk. Her paws hung gently into the stream, carefully staying there but tense, prepared for any little movement or shock. This was the only time the brightly colored noodle felt safe venturing out into the world anymore. For some the nighttime was dangerous, a fear inducing place that you never knew what might be hiding behind the next shadow. For Pina it was the only time she was allowed to relax even slightly. Being an overly bright colored noodle had more disadvantages to it then a sane person could mention, and even more to a poor abused noodle who wanted nothing more then to hide from the world forever.

Swishing a paw slowly, ever so slowly, in a circle she gazed at the sky. Soon it would go down, and only then could she even relax marginally. It would mean most of her housemates would be headed towards bed, and even more of the others who lived in this area would be off too. Tensing further she glanced around quickly, a whimper escaping her lips and her body reflexively crouching down upon itself. She was lucky her mind was allowing her to behave currently. Her adoptive....Rec had taken her to a local doctor of some sort and had spent a deal of money on special medication so she could function somewhat properly. However, the doctor himself had scared her to pieces and Rec had forcefully removed her sobbing form from the office. She had overheard someone whisper that Rec had gone back later to screech the mans ear off. That at least gave Pina some comfort.

And now as the blues overtook the oranges she felt herself relax more. Her agoraphobia wasn't restlessly scampering across her mind, and the other little ticks she had picked up were firmly tucked into the corners where they belonged. Pina shivered as that thought crossed her mind and tried to frantically destroy it. She didn't think of what those ticks were, the name the doctor had said in a reverent tone while looking almost greedily at her. It was bad enough she could never forget........

((Sorry for it being so over the top. I'm still trying to figure out what exactly I want to give Pina as a diagnosis since I'm not sure which of the DIDs she would have))

((I just made one up. Technically, Luna has a split personality due to having both Doc ancestry and O'Malley ancestry. They're two characters who used the same body and didn't get along well in Red vs. Blue.))

User ImageSun had set not long ago, but Luna didn't feel like going home just yet. Some of her cousins and friends were planning on going bar-hopping tonight to celebrate...something or other, probably nothing in particular at all, but Luna wanted some peace and quiet. She wasn't all that interested in drinking, anyway--it always gave her a headache, and when she lost control, Birdie had a tendency to lose it, too, and neither of them really liked it. So Luna had decided to go home the long way. Equipped with a flashlight and her set of armor, she set out through the forest.

Mid-winter chill still clung to the air, though the snow had gone. The dim sky did nothing to illuminate the ground below, where trees reached up to timidly push at the sky with their bare branches. Somewhere not far away, a stream gurgled as it wove around boulders and moved over stones. On impulse, Luna padded towards it, shining her light into the water. She didn't see any signs of life, but there probably were some, hiding in the water, waiting for it to be warm again and the sun to be shining. Or it would be waiting for the summer moon, the spring constellations to be hanging in the sky to mark the time for romance. She smiled under her helmet and stepped over the stream onto a rock in the middle of the flow. Stepping from one stone to another, she made her way up the brook, her flashlight shining on the water. She didn't notice the other noodle until she was almost on top of her.

"Oops!" she said. "Sorry about that!" She lowered her flashlight so that it wasn't shining as much towards the stranger and she popped off her helmet, just to be friendly. "What are you doing out here?"

((Yeah I think Pina has a bit of a split but she doesn't know about it and they're very similar I just haven't rp'd it out D|))

With the sun set she fully relaxed and actually smiled. The cold air gently caressed her fur and even that didn't cause her any discomfort. Nothing compared to what she had gone through. Nothing ever could affect her more then her mistrust of people. The agony of dealing with others and never knowing how they would treat you later, if they were really what they claimed to be. Reaching a paw up she touched her earrings, twisting them slightly and tugging gently on them as she thought. They weren't supposed to be there, they weren't something she ever wanted but here they were. One day she had gone to sleep to avoid all her housemates and their noise, and when she had woken up there was an interesting feeling in her ears.

About to lose herself in her thoughts she paused when a reflection off the stream caught her attention. A light like that wasn't in nature. Tensing up completely she froze in place. No no no no this couldn't be happening! This was her place to get away and no one was supposed to find her here. No one ever came here. Why now!? Shaking hard she realized that the light was getting closer, the one holding it right behind it. She couldn't even force herself to sniff to tell who she was dealing with. Her mind screamed to leave, Now. It was too late though. Her phobia had stilled her completely and time had made the other take notice. Whimpering slightly her eyes darted around, looking for a way to escape. Why oh why did she have to be noticed?

Oh dear! The stranger looked on the verge of a panic attack. Luna found herself in a dilemma. Turn off the flashlight and risk the stranger panicking because of a tall, unknown presence that could no longer be seen? Or keep the flashlight on and risk the stranger panicking because a white LED flashlight was casting bright light into the post-dusk riparian woodlands? She decided to take a risk and sat down on the other side of the stream with her helmet cradled in her lap. That way, she both looked smaller (once the stranger's dark vision re-established itself) and she would be farther away. Besides, if I was going to attack her, she'd have due warning with the splashing of footsteps. Once she had eliminated any threat she could impose, she turned off the flashlight. She murmured softly into the darkness, "Hey, are you okay? I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you." She waited while her dark vision reset and tried to make out the angelic. She was very brightly colored. Luna had never seen a noodle quite that brightly colored, and living in the House of Mist where their bizarre landlady had a tendency to pick tenants based on their bright coats, that was saying quite a bit. Luna noted privately the old jokes about neon fur being bright enough to blind. Medically unfeasible, of course, and liable to hurt people emotionally.

She wasn't leaving. No of course she wasn't leaving, most people wouldn't just leave as soon as they came across someone, especially in a strange place like this. Trembling her eyes continued to dart around and away from the female, who she finally realized was female. That brought her nerves down slightly, Rec had been the one to try to nurse her back to health, and because of the few kind touches from a female hand she had learned that they were less likely to harm. That wasn't always true though.......

Blinking quickly her head whipped toward the area where the light disappeared, an aching hope that the girl had left filling her chest. Another small whimper struggled its way out of her throat instead, when her eyes grew accustomed to the darkness and she noted the figure sitting across from her. Talking to her.......

Freezing again she replayed the voice she had heard over in her head. It was soft, pretty in a way that wasn't perfect, wasn't flawless. She finally saw the other, a Spartan like Rogue but certainly different in the way she held herself and treated the poor abused noodle. If she hadn't seen the light shining Pina probably wouldn't have noticed the other cross her path. She was the colors of the night sky, and Pina envied the ability she must have among crowds, never drawing attention.

Shrinking back, Pina turned to look behind her longingly. Her every sense was on alert like a rabbit who knew that a wolf was nearby. At the slightest provocation she would dash home and hide within her room. Perhaps she'd stay there for a week and ask one of her housemates to bring her food.......or wait until they did it in worry she would die of starvation. But for now she stood still, because her heart screamed that it was lonely and she needed SOMEBODY or she would die, and this could be a friend. And Pina wanted nothing more then that one friend.

The stranger didn't reply, but then again, she didn't run away, either. This Luna took as a good sign and as encouragement. Being careful to keep her voice calm and soft, she continued talking to the smaller noodle. "My name's Luna. I was just going for a walk through the forest. I don't normally walk out here, at least not late at night. I'd like to come back here in the summer, though. It's supposed to be really nice out here in the summer, with the frogs, though there might be mosquitoes." Really, Luna didn't know what to say. She found herself, wildly, questioning her decision not to go into the family business. She didn't have to be a doctor--she could be a psychiatrist or therapist or something. She knew that when she wasn't trying to help someone that she didn't particularly like shrinks, but that was the sort of thing you did when you were trying to make someone feel better.

She wasn't even sure if rambling on would help, but she'd heard somewhere that it might help. It certainly kept her mind off of questions like why the angelic was here, or, more importantly, fantasies as to why she might be here. Abusive parents? Abusive lover? Running away from something, mourning? If the other person wanted to tell her, that was her prerogative, but it wouldn't be polite to pry.

Twitching her ears slightly she listened closely. Luna hmmm? It was pretty and simple ten times better then her 'real' name anyway and quite a bit better then her chosen name. Still even being talked to made her want to hide. She wasn't being asked questions yet and the last thing she wanted to do was be asked them......because most of the time she couldn't answer them even if she wanted to.

Squirming around to face the girl she looked at her with wide brown eyes, trembling slightly as her mouth opened and closed several times. You can do this Pina, it's just one person and she doesn't seem like she's one of those people. Just say something! "My name is Pina!" Shrinking back slightly at her outburst her face burst into color and her body wished to run away. Did she have to yell it? Oh so embarrassing and her voice wasn't nearly as beautiful as the others. It had cracked when she got loud and sounded even worse. Berating herself Pina lowered her head, her ears pinned back against her skull. She couldn't do anything right.

"Pina? That's a pretty name," Luna said in the same soft voice. Pina's panicky shriek had been loud enough to cause her ears to flick back reflexively, but she forced them back into an upright position, hoping that her reaction wouldn't offend the other. It was obvious that she was scared and not sure what to do, judging by the way Pina's own ears also folded back.

Pina had a nice voice, though. Or at least, Luna was willing to guess that she did when she wasn't scared or shouting. She's probably the very quiet, very shy type. Probably why she's here. Maybe that's why she's here--maybe she's not running away from anything, maybe she's just very shy. "Do you come out here often, Pina?" she said. "I don't usually--though I guess I just said that, didn't I?" She gave a nervous smile, hoping that it would help make Pina feel better if she didn't give off waves of unabashed self-confidence.

Shaking her head slightly Pina folded in on herself, her paws wrapping around her almost as if she were chilly. Compliments were hard to take, even harder to accept with good will. It was much better to ignore them, and that was what she did.

Slowly, after a long pause that somewhere in there Luna had asked her a question or two, she lifted her head to look at the girl. The soft terrified look in her eyes slowly slipping into a firm set look and her shaking stopping. Her fear had been too much and her only defense mechanism set in, one only three others, not including her faithful familiar, knew of. "Yeah I come here a lot. To get away from the annoying people. They're everywhere." Snorting slightly her crossed arms became a pose instead of protection. "I don't know why there's so many people around but I don't like it. So we come here."

We. Luna felt a little squirming as Birdie tried to get out. Luna's first inclination from the way Pina had spoken was that maybe she would get along better with Birdie. But then again...She was so frightened. Birdie's not really good with frightened people. "Yes, I can see," she murmured. "It seems like a pretty good place to get away from other people when they get to be too much. If it isn't too much to ask, how were they being annoying? Besides being so numerous." Luna pushed Birdie back. Not now, she said silently. We don't know how she'll react.

Pina looked different now. She seemed to have gained confidence, stiffened up a bit. Luna began to wonder if Pina was like her--of course she is! We're talking to another part of her.

"You bet it's a good place. Well was, if you came here that means others might know of it too...." Pausing slightly she gave the other a searching look before nodding. "You don't look like you'll tell so I guess I'll still come here." Pausing again she frowned and looked off, softly whispering "She might not though...." Letting her tail dangle in the water she frowned and let her arms relax against her side, tapping slightly. "Oh you know how annoying people are. Some of them are skittish of everything, others are WAY too loud, then there are the few evil ones who you can't go near for fear of them killing you or doing worse. Then the overly optimistic and overbearing ones who just want to help you....and yeah how MANY of all those types romping around each other. Enough to make ya go crazy."

At the end of her rant 'Pina' looked Luna straight in the eyes, her annoyance clear on her face. "So I come here. Recitative would ask me to go on walks with her all the time and one day when I was tired of the way she was treating me I found my way here. I liked it. So here I am." She had almost said we again. It was stupid of her to say it the first time and she would try not to bring it up again. Pina was so fragile she didn't need anyone knowing who wasn't trustworthy enough. Last thing she needed was for desperate psychologists coming after her like she was their ticket to instant fame. "So what were you doing out in the forest? A lot of people avoid going into an area like this so late at night."

"Actually, I more like stumbled upon it. I didn't know this place was here. If you want me to stay quiet about it, I'll stay quiet. Especially if it's the only place you can find a little peace and quiet. Everyone needs a place like that." Luna stopped fighting. Truth be told, she was starting to get a little creeped-out by Pina. Her two personalities seemed at such odds from each other...Birdie would know what to do. Birdie could always figure out what to do, even if it wasn't a good idea in the slightest.

"Most of the people we deal with are a lot like that. Too loud or too overbearing. Luckily, not a lot of evil people in general. Even then, they're usually not too difficult to deal with." Luna fidgeted with the helmet while listening to Birdie talk. It occurred to them that this conversation would be very surreal from a stranger's point of view, especially with the liberal use of "we." Pina had stopped doing that, but she might have been aware that she was doing it and decided to stop for some reason...
