Okay so, I have a 45 gallon tank I do 20% water changes once a week and three of my fish are infected with fungus. I'm pretty sure the cause of this is the five cories I bought from the pet store around christmas time, when I got them home and into my tank one of them was already sick with what looked like a swim bladder problem. I isolated him in his own 5g tank as soon as I noticed he was acting strange and tried to make him better but it didn't work and he passed away a couple days later.

About a week later I noticed a spot of white fungus on the mouth of one of my tetras, the pet store guys told me to use API fungus cure powder.

I followed the directions exactly which told me to use 1 packett of powder per 10g (so 4.5 packetts for my tank) then two days later repeat the dose and then after another two days do a 25% water change. After the medication my fish was actually worse, the fungus patch was bigger and one of my cories had gotten infected. I called the pet store back and they told me to turn up my tanks heater to about 81 degrees feirenheight and to add salt to my tank (1 tbs per 5g) over a course of two days and see what happened. I didn't see any results over the next few days so I called another pet store and they told me if I used two treatments in a row of the powder it could be too hard on my fish so I should use API Pimafix which is an all natural medication to treat fungus.

I again followed the directions exactly ( it says to add 5ml per 10g once a day for one week, then do a 25% water change, it also says that treatment can be continued if necessary and that it can also be combined with other API medications or water treatments). The fungus seemed to get a little bit better after the first week so I contined for another week and it started to get worse again.
So I bought another fungus cure powder since the pet store people told me that that was a stronger medication and gave my fish another dose of that along with doses of the pimafix and after a week of that my fish are still getting worse.

I now have no idea on what to do to make my fish better and am getting really frustrated, if anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate them.

P.S: I made sure to take the carbon out of my tank filter as both medications say that this will give best results.

Sounds like columnaris, to me, rather than just a simple fungus infection. I don't know what to do about, but I'm sure a Google search will tell you how to treat it.

Before you start any more treatments, you should do a large (75% or so) water change, and add some new carbon to the filter. Mixing meds can kill your fish if you don't do it right.

Its recommended to quarantine new fish for 2-4 weeks, before adding them to your main tank.

Hope you get this sorted out smile

Thanks I googled it and it gave me a list of medicines to look for so I will go to my pet store tonight and try to find one. I just did a big water change on friday put the carbon back in my filter, so I think all of the medication I used is gone by now, so I should be okay to try a new one.

I am definately going to quarantine any new fish from now on, I do not want to repeat this experience.
