And you keep the air in my lungs
Floating along as a melody comes
And my heart beats like timpani drums
Keeping the time while a symphony strums

I have a really bad habit of starting stories, but never finishing them. Does anyone have any tip on how to say on track, even when you're losing interest?

Son I am not everything you thought that I would be
But every story I have told is part of me
Son I leave you now but you have so much more to do
And every story I have told is part of you

~I haven't been here in a long time~

If you're losing interest, I would suggest making a drastic change. Even if it messes with the plot line. Give your character a new trait, like a hippie streak or cowardice. Its fun to have new variety to work with in a character. Although you'll have to go back and change the way the act through the earlier pages, just save it for later. For now, just go with it.
Throw in a new spin- even if it does change the ending.
Or just skip ahead and write the parts you are interested in. Once you get wrapped up in a story, its easier to go back and write the more low-key scenes.

I did write a full novel once. It was hard. But I forced myself to sit down ever single damn night and write 2000 words. Force yourself to write a certain amount every day- maybe something more like 500-1000 words. Even if its crap. By the time I was finished, I completely abandoned the entire plot line and started from scratch again because it was so bad. But I was glad to see that I could do it. The pride that comes from finishing is so worth the self discipline!

Lastly, being around other writers really motivates me to start writing again. Look up writing events- I'm in Utah and every year there is a big writing convention called LTUE. Its a lot of fun and it gets me pumped to get writing again. You should see if there's anything like that in your area.

Anyway, long rant after I've been all but gone from the guild for the last six months or so. Good luck!
