Vatican lay in the cool shade of his tree, looking out upon the clearing where he had met so many interesting herla before. It seemed like a crossroads of sorts, a place bucks and hinds migrated through on their way to bigger and better things. It was here he had spent most of his older childhood and adult months, here that life seemed to make sense. Sitting primly atop the flattened heather, he could watch the clouds float through the sky, or the dappled light dance in the leaves, or the wild fox chase the hare. It was also here had had met that interesting black hind, the one with a temper and set mind he loved to bother so much... the one called Omnita. Perhaps she would travel through this crossroads again, as she had that one time, eating a rabbit as he had remembered. How peculiar... a deer eating a rabbit. Alas, he had seen stranger...
Just perfect. Her father was busy and who knew where her sisters were. What? Was she just supposed to go explore alone? The black hind huffed, kicking a pebble aside as she stomped down the road. It wasn't like she'd never explored alone before. She could go do it again. Omnita just didn't want to. For once she actually wanted some company. Pity she had so few friends. Hm.... The hind stopped, glaring up at the clouds. Surely someone would- Hey.... The sight of the white clouds floating above made her think of the hart she had met not too long ago. Yes. Vatican would come with her, even if it was only to annoy her. Omnita smirked and turned toward the place she had met him. She would drag him along even if he refused. Her pace was fast and quite soon she was approaching the clearing where she had talked to Vatican. "Hey!" The herla exclaimed as she spotted him, the barest hint of a smile playing at her lips, "We're going mountain climbing. Come on." It was a demand more than anything else and she stared at him, almost daring him to refuse.
Vatican was just about to close his eye and settle back into mediation when he heard hoofs moving towards him swiftly. His below par vision meant that his hearing had become slightly keener than usual, so he listened carefully as the herla came closer and couldn't help but smirk as Omnita appeared in the clearing. He knew she'd be back... he didn't know how, but he just knew. Was he happy she was back? He wasn't really sure he was capable of feeling happy... but, that was beside the point.
Quirking an eyebrow at her demand, he stayed still for a moment as he pondered, "Hmm... climbing a mountain with you or meditating under a tree alone..." With an exaggerated sigh he heaved himself to his feet and shook his head, "I may be a hermit, but it would seem you will not take no for an answer... and why waste time arguing?" Vatican pretty much said this to himself as he trotted towards Omnita with a rather placid look on his face, though inside he was slightly worried at how coordinated he will be at climbing a mountain with one eye, "Lead the way, good Omnita..."
For a moment, it looked as if Vatican was going to decline her and Omnita actually felt herself begin to worry. The feeling vanished as he rose to join her and Omnita scowled. What the hell? Worry? Since when the hell did she get worried? "Good. At least you're smart." The hind turned, leading the way toward the mountains. She had explored most of them already, but there were a few areas that were still unknown to her. "Were you really going to spend all day sleeping under a tree? Where's the fun in that?" Omni asked, looking over her shoulder at Vatican.
Vatican sighed and shook his head, "I was not sleeping, I was meditating... I do believe there is a difference. It is quite fun." He assured her, though was pretty certain she would never find such a thing fun. It was only for the astute mind that contemplating the intricacies of the world could be considered an enjoyable pastime. Alas, it was quite nice to be able to dumb himself down for a while and think about regular deer things. Not to say he thought Omnita unintelligent, simply that she thought differently and he enjoyed that.
"I could ask you why climbing things is fun... but I do recognize that different things are fun for different herla," Vati drawled out as he caught up to her, picking his way forward very daintily as he tried not to trip and make a fool of himself.
Omnita let out a soft huff, rolling her eyes. "I know that you think things are fun that I don't. I've got siblings you know. They like a bunch of stupid stuff but whatever, I don't judge." The hind tensed slightly before leaping a short distance up on to a ledge. "But climbing is fun because it's a good work out and then there's a view at the top and accomplishment." She made sure not to let her tail drag on the ground as she delicately stepped between the rocks. Omni paused, turning back to Vatican. "So.... You were born with sight in one eye, right? Does it bother you?"

Vatican sighed and shook his head, "I, in fact, did not know you had siblings. How fascinating. I myself have two sisters and a brother..." he mentioned nonchalantly, including Venus as a sister instead of a half-sister like she always wanted to be.
He followed along, keeping a calm and collected demeanor, even as they came upon the first ledge and Omnita sprang up with ease. Taking a moment, he judged how far it would be and jumped up after her, just barely nicking the tip of his back hoof on the edge so it was barely noticeable. With this small victory, he relaxed slightly, though still watching his steps carefully as they weaved through the rocks. He did not look at her to answer the question this time, instead keeping his eye on the path they were taking, "How can one miss what they never had?"
She snorted softly, glancing back at the hart. "There are plenty of ways to miss what you've never had, but I understand what you mean." Maybe it was a touchy subject. Who cares anyway how the hart saw. It wouldn't affect her. Omnita glanced back at Vatican again before she stopped. Ahead of them was a wide trench. It was a small enough gap that it could be leapt over but she was still a bit wary. If you missed the leap you'd fall down into a deep ditch. It wouldn't be a fatal fall but it'd probably hurt. The hind stared down into the trench before snorting. "You jump first."
Vatican pouted and realized that she actually made a valid point instead of her usual dismissal of his musings. It intrigued him, but also bothered him slightly that she was right... it was very possible to miss something you've never had. He did not like being... no, not wrong, just, slightly inaccurate. Yes, that's what it was, a slight inaccuracy. Was this adventure really ruffling him so much? With a grunt, he followed along quietly until they reached the trench. If not for his years of meditation, he probably would have balked at the sight. Alas, he was a strong character and looked at it blandly. "Hmm... I always thought it was ladies first. But, very well then..." he said without the slightest quiver in his voice, though he was a little nervous. Stepping up to the edge, he squinted his eye and sighed. He usually would just overcompensate for the jump and clear it with a lot of room to spare, but the other side was slightly obscured by scraggly bushes. It would be rather precarious to over-shoot the jump by too much. He would... just have to be accurate. Bunching up his muscles, he sprang and closed his eye, hoping to land on the other side... and he did! Success! All four hooves connected solidly with the land on the other side... a little too solidly. In a rush of loose rocks and dirt, Vatican's back hooves began sliding out from under him and he yelped, "********! OMNITA!" He dug his front hooves into the dirt at the edge, his back legs scrambling against the ledge to make it back up.
Her eyes widened as suddenly Vatican's hind legs lost their footing and the other herla fell backward. She tensed quickly, easily leaping the trench to grab hold of Vatican by the fur of his neck. Damnit. Were hands too much to ask for? She needed all four feet on the ground to try to drag Vatican to safetly and thus the only thing she could hold on to him with was her mouth. She clung to him, regretting every moment of it, and struggled to tug him forward and away from the dangerous drop. Her eyes narrowed into a glare as she pulled, even though the other hart wouldn't be able to see it from his position. Damnit all! He was too heavy! The dirt beneath them was still loose and as Omnita struggled backward it shifted, causing her to lose her balance. With a muffled curse, she was dragged forward by Vatican's weight and went tumbling over the cliff. The fall was a short one and she landed hard, managing to roll on impact and absorb some of the force. Ow. ******** ow! The black hind struggled to her feet, wincing in pain. Well... Nothing seemed broken. But still... ow. She blinked rapidly to clear her double vision and gave her head a little shake before looking about. Had Vatican fallen too? Damn that one eyed dumbass. This was his fault. But she wasn't mad at him surprisingly, instead it was worry that clouded her eyes as she looked for him.
Vatican closed his eye and tried to heave himself up, but he wasn't used to physical exertion like this and failed miserably. It wasn't until he felt Omnita's teeth around his neck that he had any hope for avoiding the fall, until he felt her slipping as well. "No Omnita! Let go! Get back!" he yelled and wished her away. He would never admit that he actually cared about her welling being-- it was just logical that it would be easier to get one herla out of the trench rather than two. With a yowl, he felt his stomach drop as they fell, his eye closing in finality. Then there was the impact and the breath was knocked out of his lungs. He gasped and lay there, unable to feel the pain, but feeling the lack of breath. Laying there for a moment he composed himself. Then, as he opened his eye, he saw nothing but blackness, and panic began to well up in his heart. For once in a very long time... he was afraid. That is, until he realized that his eyepatch had simply shifted and was covering his good eye. With a nervous snort-chuckle of relief, Vatican nudged it back in place and stood up slowly. There was a nagging wet feeling on his shoulder and back, but he ignored it, assuming he had just fallen in some water. However, the inability to feel pain and the shock of the fall was actually masking his ability to realize that he was bleeding, profusely, from a gash running down his back.
Omnita's eyes landed on the blue hart and her heart sank. The sight of the bright red that ran down his back and side filled her with dread. "And why the ******** are you standing there all smiley you blundering, blind idiot?! Are you just that ******** stupid!?" She exclaimed angrily as she galloped over. The gash had to be deep to be bleeding that badly. "You're bleeding everywhere you retard! Why the hell are you so ******** happy?!" Damndamndamn! She was no medic! If they didn't get the bloodflow stopped this stupid hart was going to die right here. And the idiot would probably still be smiling! The hind grabbed at Vatican's own clothing, using the shredded black fabric to try to slow the bleeding. "At least the blood stains won't show up that much on black?" She grumbled, applying some pressure to the gash.
Her green eyes flitted around their surroundings, looking for a plant with leaves that might help them. But while the cliffs above held various flora the trench itself was bare. "Stop bleeding you dope!" Omnita snarled, glaring at Vatican as if he was doing this just to irritate her. She was panicking and that was making her angry. For some reason, she couldn't stand the idea of this foolish herla dying. The very possiblity filled her with an overwhelming guilt. "Stop it! I mean it. And don't you dare tell me I'm being silly!"

Vatican blinked and looked at her placidly as she began to yell, not surprised in the least. He was about to just flick his ears and tell her to calm down, until she told him he was bleeding. With a grunt, he turned his head to look at his back and his eye went wide, "Oh... well... look at that. I am bleeding. Hmm... what to do..." he mumbled, feeling a little light headed. As she came over and began to press his clothes against the gash, Vatican stilled and shivered. Physical contact... it... was unusual for him. His father had never liked being overly touchy-feely and Amber was about as cuddly as a cactus. This close proximity, it was... nice... comforting... thrilling. Wait, thrilling?
He blinked slowly and sighed, that was a strange emotion to be feeling. It must be because of that strange cloud in his head... the one making everything move so slowly. With a lazy grin, he presses his cheek into her neck and sighed, "I won't die... I am much to comfy right here..."
With a sigh, he was about to close his eye when he suddenly felt a tingling pain in his back. This unusual sensation brought him to his senses and snapped him back to reality. The pressure she was putting on the cut must be working and the healing was what he felt.
Leaning back abruptly, he winced as the cloth grated against the raw skin. He paused and looked at his back again, the cut was bleeding sluggishly, but it really wasn't that deep. "Hmmm... calm yourself. I can not think with you yelling like a maniac..." he paused and mumbled to himself, "What would mother's surgeons do... clean it..." He paused again and attempted to lick his back, but to no avail. With a pout, he realized that he would have to ask for help...
She frowned, continuing to keep pressure on the wound. It looked as if the bloodflow was slowing. That was good. And then Vatican was snuggling against her. She froze, her jaw dropping slightly open. She shivered as he pressed a cheek against her neck and proclaimed it too comfortable. For a long moment, Omnita wasn't sure what exactly to do. What was going on? Then she saw the dopey look on Vatican's face and rolled her eyes. "Lay down before you pass out." She nudge him on the shoulder, huffing. "You probably whacked your head." That a**. He wasn't flirting! He was just deliusional. Omnita grumbled, watching Vatican attempt to lick his wound. Well......... it was a good idea. The hind frowned and stepped closer. "Let me. a**." She began to carefully lick the wound clean, grumbling. And yet.... she was still worried about the hart. She lighlty wrapped her tail around him as she cleaned the wound, trying to make sure that he wasn't about to fall over.
Vatican grinned slowly and tried to wink, only it look just like he was blinking at her and he wined, "You know... I can't wink... what a sorrowful life I do lead..." Then with a giggle and looked at the tail that wrapped around him and purred. Wait, purred? Blinking a few times, Vatican tried to get a hold of himself, but it was all he could do to keep standing. He stood very still as Omnita licked his wound clean, rather uncomfortable that he needed such assistance. But in the end, what could he do? As time passed, he felt his knees grow weaker, and even Omnita's supporting tail wouldn't be able to keep him up much longer. "Perhaps laying down... would be an advantageous decision..." he said carefully before gently sinking to the ground. Vatican much preferred it this way, that it looked like it was his choice to lay down, and not just this strange weakness. "Oh... silly me, I never asked..." he paused and looked up at her placidly, "Are you okay?"
As Vatican lay down, Omnita rolled her eyes. She stared down at him and snorted. "Course I'm okay. I may be a bit bruised and scraped but at least I still have my brain." She was worried. He was acting stupid. Maybe he had a concussion or worse! "Look, you're not allowed to sleep. Got it? If you sleep I will poke out your good eye." With that warning she flopped down next to the other hart. Her eyes studied the cliff faces. They were too tall to jump up and far too steep to climb. Damn. Luckily the trench was a long one. It seemed to go on and on and on. "Look, if we keep walking that way we may be able to find an area that isn't steep and then we can climb out of here. Do you want to just wait here while I look or do you think you'll be able to walk with a bit of rest?"
Vatican nodded slowly and grinned, "No sleep... got it... Mr. Sandman won't be getting to me tonight, no siree... I'll be too busy looking into a pair of bright green eyes..." He paused and tried to look at both of Omnita's eyes at once and frowned when he couldn't do it, looking away with a huff. How unfortunate, that an eye could not focus on more than one thing at once, "How splendid it would be to have compound eye like a bug... to see everything and all things at once... splendid indeed..." he murmured to himself and put his head down on his hooves, looking up at Omnita balefully. As she looked around to study the cliffs, he continued to mumble to himself, "Little rabbits go down a hole, down down down like the mole, but soon they tumbled and bumble along, and things all go terribly wrong... little rabbits stuck in a hole, I wonder if they'll be eaten by the mole..." He sighed and shook his head a bit, blinking a few times as Omnita asked him a question. "Hmmm... why... certainly my dear! I am the great Vatican Sweet! Who needs rest... not I, certainly! Onward!" he yelped and sprang to his hooves, only to fall over in an unceremonious heap. "My goodness! What have they done to my legs... why, I'll stomp them to bits, you'll see! Maybe Xanthe will stomp them for me... those tricksie little bugs..." He grinned some more and laughed, as a voice in the back of his head tried to impose logic upon him, Monsieur Vatican Sweet... get a hold of yourself. You were never this silly, even as a fawn. You will worry Omnita, and you hate having people worry about you. Deep breath, compose yourself... But the voice was faint and did not keep Vatican from grinning.
She stared at him, a bit shocked as he complimented her eyes. She had never been truly flirted with and was not expecting such things now. And then the a** started mumbling some nonsense. "Would you ju-" And now he was on his feet. And then he was immediately on the ground. Omnita growled, stomping her feet angrily. "SIT AND SHUT THE HELL UP." She ordered fiercely, the worry clear in her eyes now. He had lost his goddamn mind! Realizing that yelling at the hart probably wouldn't get them anywhere, she instead let out a soft sight and bent to lightly nuzzle Vatican's head. "Hush. Just... hush." She continued to nuzzle him and carefully lay down at his side, wrapping her tail around him. She'd have to treat this dope like a fawn. "You're going to hurt yourself if you keep jumping around and being stupid." Damn him and his mediation s**t. Not being able to feel pain might have been seen as a blessing until now. In Vatican's condition it was simply dangerous. The fact that he hadnt' know he had cut himself scared her. As she nuzzled and tried to comfort the silly hart, she scanned him over for other injuries. Dumb hart. She never should have brought him here.

"Yes'm!" Vatican settled a little as Omnita's voice suddenly got quiet and her tail wrapped around him. There it was again, that physical contact... such a strange concept. Why would anyone want to just touch for the sake of touching. Certainly not anyone in his family. Had he been missing something all his life? No, that was not possible. Such a frivolous thing could not be fundamental to life. Perhaps it was one of those things like zydrate or hallucinogenic mushrooms... fun to do, but not necessary.
As things got quieter and less hurried, Vatican's mind began to slow down and settled. The softness in Omnita's words sparked something in his subconscious-- it was not normal for her. Her words were supposed to be harsh and uncaring... this softness was not the norm. Now she was nuzzling him and Vatican could feel a slight repulsion to such an intimate act grow in his stomach-- he hated attachments. Attachments made him feel more mortal, while his purpose of his meditation and aloofness was to step closer towards immortality. "You should not worry about me..."
He blinked and shook his head a little, hoping it would clear the cloud out of his mind, but the movement just made him dizzy. With a sigh, he put his head down on his hooves again, "... how I had wanted to see the view... you had gotten me quite... excited... about it..." Vatican sighed again, he was so sleepy, but the voice of reason in his mind told him he could not sleep. So instead he busied himself with trying to settle back into his usual state of mind, clearing out the cloudiness in his thoughts...
"Well I'm going to worry about you so you can just get over it." Omnita grumbled softly, peering down at the hart as he laid his head down. She listened silently to him speak, frowning. Dumb hart. She actually felt bad for him. With a sigh she nudged his shoulder. "Well next time we'll go climbing on a mountain that doesn't require jumping." Next time. She'd have to get them through this time before there could be a next time. A stray though made Omnita chuckle softly. Her mother had always said that if she rescued a man from a hole to marry him. Well.... This wasn't exactly a hole, but she did have some feelings for this hart. Although love it probably wasn't. The hind nudged Vatican a bit roughly, huffing. She didn't want him falling asleep. If he did, she'd have to explain to her mother why she killed the man instead of marrying him. "We'll rest here until your head has cleared and then we'll try to find a way up."
Vatican smiled very faintly at her declaration... perhaps the worrying was not characteristic of her, but the stubbornness certainly was. It was soothing to know she wasn't changing. After a moment of silence, Vatican was about to sink into meditation, hoping that would help him regain his composure. That is, until Omnita nudged him roughly. His head snapped up with a huff and Vatican looked at the gruff hind crossly. "Good Omnita... how is a hart to meditate with you nudging around him like a nesting hedgehog..." he drawled, sounding almost like his normal aloof self. He needed to escape into himself for a while, to assess the situation from a different point of view. If he could just get his thoughts to go in a straight line again, perhaps he could help her get something done. It wasn't that he had hit his head or anything, but such a loss of blood would make anyone woozy. Good thing it was a shallow cut, as nasty as it had looked. But that was old news... what was lost was lost... but now he was rather hungry... Vatican had barely thought this thought when his stomach growled, much to his embarrassment. Flattening his ears back, he glared back at his belly crossly, as though scolding it would make it quiet down.
Meditation. Hmph. What a load of bullshit. Her face reflected her thoughts as she stared at him with a "what a pile of crap" expression. He might go on and on about meditation but she didn't believe a word of it. Besides, she needed him thinking in the real world right now. At least he wasn't being so silly though. The hind shifted a bit away from the hart as he began to act more like himself. She huffed softly and stood as she flicked her tail. Omnita wasn't close enough to Vatican to tolerate long touching spells. This nuzzling made her feel odd and she didn't like it.
"You're hungry." It wasn't a question but a statement as Vatican's stomach growled. The darkly covered hind looked about for some food but shook her head. "Guess you're just going to have to deal with it until we get someplace with food. This place is barren. .... It's probably a dried up river bed. Better hope it doesn't rain hard until we can get out." This whole place probably flooded. .... They needed to get out of here. It was dangerous. "How's your head? Think you can walk without falling on your face?"
Vatican ignored Omnita's incredulous look; there was no point in trying to convince her to think otherwise. It would just be a waste of time and energy. He sat up and closed his eye, about to drift into his state of non-being when Omnita began to move away and asked him if he could walk again. With a patient sigh, he opened his eye and looked up the black hind, "I do not fall on my face... thank you very much. It is much too handsome for such mistreatment." He said and then bit his tongue with a frown- that's not something he would have said if she had given him time to organize himself. Alas, this was a dangerous place to be and he understood her rush. With a deep breath, he pushed himself to his hooves and stood a little shakily, his knees a little bowed, but he was able to stand. He took another breath and tensed all his muscles one by one, preparing himself for the first step... the first was always the hardest. Stepping forward, he stumbled slightly, but was able to stay on his feet. With a confident nod, he took a few more shaky steps and finally took a look around at their surroundings... what a hole to be stuck in. Closing his eye again, his ears swiveling back and forth as he tried to hear something that could give them a clue to their escape. He kicked his hoof, knocking over a pebble, and listened to the echo in both directions. To the right, it kept going... but to the left... it stopped... as though there was incline in that direction. "I think we should go that way," he said and pointed his head to the left.
He was still flirting. The realization made Omnita's frown deepen. Was he still out of it because of the bloodloss or could he actually.... like her. ....... Her tail whipped back and forth but the hind remained silent. She watched carefully as he got to his feet, taking a few steps closer to him until he was sucessfully up. Good. At least now they could get moving. Still silent, Omnita watched his little experiment with the rock and shook her head at his conclusion. "We can go that way, but I doubt we'll be able to get up. It's probably just a sheer cliff."
But at least they would be able to rule out one way. The hind turned toward the left and began walking. She kept the pace slow so that Vatican wouldn't be rushed and risk hurting himself again. "...... You should keep someone around you so you don't get yourself killed." The hind said after another moment of silence. "You're going to get yourself injuried some day and bleed to death before you ever realize you're hurt. ...... Stupid."

Vatican quirked an eyebrow as Omnita's frown seemed to deepen, if that were even possible. "My dear, your face will get stuck that way if your persist with such a scowl..." he said with a slight smirk before following after her to the left. He placed his hooves carefully and though he held his head high, it was obvious his eye was trained on the ground. He was just about to relax into the slow and steady pace when Omnita began to speak again and he huffed. Why did everyone think he needed someone to take care of him?! Just because he had one eye, didn't mean he was any less of a hart. He snarled slightly and spat, "I do not require a keeper. My death is of no consequence to anyone but myself, and I should like to keep it that way. Remember this, Omnita, for I will not repeat it." This was the first time in a while that he openly showed anger, because he usually let such comments just roll off his back. However, the fall and loss of blood, as well as his inability to meditate due to constant interruptions, awoke these emotions in him. After all, he was not emotionless, he simply chose to ignore away most of the time.
Omnita couldn't help but stare at the hart as he grew angry. She scowled before rolling her eyes, her expression softening. "I think you misunderstand, Vatican." The hind began, "I did not mean to imply that you were helpless. And I certainly didn't mean you needed a keeper. You're not stupid. But you should at least get a mion. Just so you don't go tromping about hurt." She turned to face Vatican fully and took a step closer. "You shouldn't think that people think less of you isf because they tell you to be safe." Omnita snorted and turned back, continuing forward again. She saw no reason to dwell on the subject. Obviously it was a touchy subject for her companion. The way he always seemed so calm probably made people think he was weak. She certainly had assumed his demeanor meant he was useless. But she had been wrong and Omnita was willing to acknowledge that. The fact that people might think Vati was helpless because of his eye, or rather his lack of an eye, didn't really occur to her. After all, her father managed quite well. Completely blind. Why should she think having only one eye made a hart incapable of functioning?
Vatican was still bristling as she looked at him with that soft expression, but took a deep breath and contained himself. He preferred it when she was rough with him and this caring-nonsense was starting to rub his fur the wrong way. Alas, he knew she was at least trying not to bother him, so he let her drop the subject when she did. In fact, he didn't even dignify her return statement with an answer, because he had no intention of getting a mion and he wouldn't have gotten hurt if she hadn't insisted on this crazy adventure in the first place. As it were, would a mion have been able to help him clear that jump? Or would have been any more useful in getting them out of this hole? Not likely. Vati liked to be alone, and that was that.
"A life lived cautiously is no life at all," he said plainly as they continued forward, almost at the bend in the ravine, what probably used to be a river bend. He couldn't help but hope that the blockage he heard wasn't too steep to clamber up.
Omnita stopped and swung around, glaring. "Fine then!" She growled, "If you don't want any help, Mr. High and Mighty I Can Do Everything Myself, then I won't help!" She turned about away from him, her large tail whacking him slightly in the face and bounded off. She had only been trying to help! The hind darted away from the injuried hart and didn't look back. She would show him. Omnita left him behind and headed for what would hopefully be the way out. He could just catch up. The dark hind ran until she couldn't see Vatican behind her before she slowed to a walk, still bristling with anger. Cautious life is no life. Hmph. She hadn't told him to be a hermit! Just to be a bit more careful. Jerk.
The hind stopped as she reached the cliff face. It rose straight up from the ground with an incline too sharp for them to climb. Oh well. At least they had eliminated one way. She stomped her hooves and settled down to wait for Vatican. Maybe by the time he got he he'd realize he was being a turd.
Vatican quirked an eyebrow as Omnita seemed to go on an emotional rampage. How interesting, what caring could do to someone. He sighed inwardly and thought to himself as she bounded off, she will be better off not caring about me... she'll only get hurt... Interestingly enough, the blow from her tail actually hurt... not physically... but there was this small ache in his heart he couldn't quite understand. Taking a deep breath, he allowed the feeling to roll off his shoulders like water off a swan's feathers.
As Omni ran off, Vatican continued at his slow and stead pace. After a while, his eyes seemed to glaze over as he lost himself in the depths of his own mind. This was the only truly safe place in the world... where he could feel and say and think whatever he wanted without any sort of repercussions. He slowly boxed everything away, letting each bothersome feeling and every worrisome thought simply drift away on the breeze. Finally, he turned the corner, and stepped towards the cliff-face primly. Look at this mess... if he hadn't made an attachment, he would not even be in this hole, or even be having an argument with someone that he regretted... regret... so maybe THAT was the ache in his heart.... if he even had one.
"It would seem there is no exit in this direction... Perhaps we should turn back?" he said and looked around, finally noticing that the trench seemed even more gloomy than before. Looking up to the sky, he sighed, "Night is fast approaching..." He paused and then looked directly into Omnita's eyes with his own singular, ice-blue orb, "If I told you that I don't want your help, I simply want your companionship... would you understand what I am trying to say?"
She waited for what seemed like forever until the hart finally arrived. Omnita glared at Vatican as he began to speak but as he finished she rolled her eyes and huffed. "Yes. But you need to learn to accept some help. Someone trying to help doesn't mean that they think you're helpless." She grumbled, stalking over to him. The hind looked up to the sky and frowned. "It'll be dangerous to travel in the dark since we don't know the terrian." The hind glanced about before she noticed a taller boulder. "That's big enough for us to sleep on and should keep us high enough that if it rains we won't be flooded." The female turned and leapt carefully on to the large rock. It wasn't huge so they would have to sleep close to each other. Great. Omnita growled and huffed, laying down. Vatican better hurry his a** up if he wanted her forgiveness.

Vatican chuckled and sighed, "Baby steps, Omnita..." He said this in hopes that she would understand- the fact that he even said he enjoyed her companionship was rare and strange enough in itself. If she ever wanted more, she would have to be patient, because this sort of thing was new and foreign. After all, hadn't he forged himself into someone entirely unlovable? An emotionless p***k with one eye and no regard or patience for others? Obviously he hadn't done a very good job in remaining attachment-less.
As Omnita turned to the rock, Vatican looked at her coolly, but deep in the back of his mind, he panicked. He had rather hoped they would be done with such strange and unusual physical exertions for the day. Then she jumped to the top and he visibly blanched. She was so graceful, made these things seem effortless... but they weren't easy. And funnily enough, it wasn't even the fact that he could reopen his wound if he wasn't careful that made him hesitate. No... the idiot was thinking, if I can't do this... she use it to prove her point. This is ridiculous... I usually just sleep on the ground. He sighed and shook his head, looking around, hoping for a way out of this situation... but there were as many ways out of it as there were out of this trench, that is to say, none.
He walked around the boulder slowly, looking for a side that was lower than the rest, and sighed again in relief as he saw another boulder, slightly lower, right next to it. Clambering onto this one with all the nonchalant primness he could muster, he stretched forward and planted his hooves on the boulder next to Omnita. With a slight heave, he made it up next to her and settled down with a satisfied huff, only to realize that now they were touching. "Normally... I would protest such a sleeping arrangement... but... at least we won't have to worry about the cold..."
Omnita watched silently as Vatican walked around the boulder. She should have thought of that. If he couldn't jump over a little hole then he probably couldn't get up here. She sighed softly, ready to get up so they could find someplace else to sleep. The hind felt a little bad that she had upset her new found friend. The dark female hadn't meant to. She just wanted to help. But it wasn't in her character. As Vatican finally made it up on to the rock and lay down next to her she huffed.
"At least be glad we can see the stars." The feel of Vatican's side brushing the side of her's was.... strange. She was upset to notice that she actually rather liked the contact. "We'll head back the other way tomorrow morning and try to find some food. We should be able to move faster now that you've got your brain back."
