Cooke Farm
Off far and out of the way, on an old country road is a farm. The house that sits on the property is a typical country house: big and plain. The residents of this house decided to take their own lives, smoking guns in-hand, their farewells written all over the walls of a smaller bedroom. Literally. Also on this average to small sized farm is an old red, peeling barn. The doors are opened wide and inside is quite bare. Where horses may have been kept, chickens cooped, cows milked, dust and disuse has taken their place... Tread carefully. God only knows what lays here besides the already passed-on Cookes...

Sophia stumbled along the way, 'Holiday's End' in her right hand, the blade dragging along the dusty, crude road. She heard of this farm before. This was the Cooke Farm. The Cooke's were old friends of the Rameriaz's. In fact, her father's lumber mill wasn't too far away from the house. She approached the window of their bedroom and peered inside. A farewell. Cowards. She looked on the bed where Mr. and Mrs. Cooke lie, their bones picked cleaned by Walkers. Pitiful. A Walker stood up on the opposite side of the window, eyes staring into hers. It lunged forward, breaking the window, and she jumped back, letting it fall out. She lifted her chainsaw up in one hand, and used her other hand to start it up. The familiar WHRRRRRRR sounded like music to her ears. With one arm, she swung it and beheaded the Walker. As its lifeless, lifeless body fell to the ground, she lifted the chainsaw and smashed the tip of it in the middle of the Walker, spewing blood, bones and guts everywhere. She cut the chainsaw off afterwards and brought it up to her. The blood of the Walker covered it like dipping sauce. She licked up and down the chainsaw and tasted the Walker's blood. Yummy. She dropped the tip of it down to the dirt again and left, dragging it along the dusty road again. She headed to the forests, where past she heard rumors of survivors. Excellent. She could make others feel her heart-wrenching pain...

The small group spotted a small farm far off in the distance. As they approached with caution, the faint smell of death and decay flared at their nostrils. Radu made a face and Anca wasn't much different. They each gripped their machetes and hand axes, crouching without much need. The first level windows were already over Radu's head, the house being elevated for the sake of having a front porch with stairs. This was an advantage. It would make it nearly impossible for intruders to get at the windows without assistance, let alone the walkers. Radu paused under one of the windows, hearing a thud on the other side, alerting him that there was one, possibly more, walkers inside. The twins, in sync, turned silently to Luka, Anca more wide-eyed than her twin, as usual. This gesture was to ask if he'd heard the small sound as well. Then the possibility occurred to Radu that perhaps it wasn't a walker inside. Maybe they were alive? It was unlikely, but possible still. His fingers twitched with anticipation, his brow quivering, and lip curling as he longed to clear out the house, kill the things that had tried to kill him, a sort of hunger in his gut.

LUKALuka quickly glanced down at Radu and Anca and nodded. He heard the thump as well. Without speaking, he used his hands to gesture the plan he was formulating in his head. He pointing at the twins, then directed his fingers in a curve around the house, then he pointed his thumb at himself then at the front door. These old houses always had a back door so the plan, which he hoped they could understand in any language, was for the twins to flank the house and he would go in the front and together they would clear the house out. He pressed his index finger to his lips and mouthed 'shhh' but didn't actually say it before he started climbing the front stairs. He stood with his back to the wall, and peered into one of the windows but the curtain inside the house didn't leave much room to see anything.

Anca and Radu made their way to the back of the house, and just as Luka had thought, there was another patio with a back door. It was ajar, and with a small push, it opened wide. Radu grasped his Kukri machete and held an arm out, blocking Anca from going first, which she had tried. She made a small face at his disapproval but followed silently nonetheless. Once inside, Radu snooped around the home, crouched low and prepared. He peeked inside a few rooms very briefly, but his main focus was on the room located in the front of the house where he knew there was someone or some thing. He spotted Luka near the front door, and jerked his head toward the room he assumed was the equivalent to the one they'd heard the noises. His eyes followed up to the door that was nearly closed. He nudged the door with the toe of his boot but as it opened it creaked loudly, drawing the attention of the walker inside. It stumbled toward them, groaning and moaning, teeth snapping, fingers stretching, until Radu swung his machete quickly, not expecting the walker to have moved that fast. His blade only severed four of its fingers, which fell idle to the floor. The walker, which was a heavy fellow in his day, tackled Radu to the hard ground where he hit the back of his head. Radu had his machete pressed between them, on the walker's neck to be more specific, oozing coagulated blood down the front of Radu's shirt. He looked disgusted, tilting his face far away from the mess as he continued to fight off the walker. It all happened so fast that Anca was now next to the walker, waiting for the right moment so that she would not behead her own brother, "Impingeti capul pana! Impingeti capul pana!" ["Push the head up! Push the head up!"] Radu flipped the flat side of his machete against the walkers neck and pushed high in the air away from him as Anca slashed across with hers, cleaving far into the walker's head, rendering him lifeless. Anca released the lodged-in blade as the walker slumped forward, kneeling down and shoving at the walker to roll the corpse from atop her brother.

LUKALuka burst through the front door when he heard a commotion inside, just in time to see Anca slay the walker on top of Radu. He didn't have the time to to ask if they were ok because not a moment later he raised his crossbow eye-level and fired past the twins. His arrow lodged into the forehead of a zombie that was shuffling in through a doorway behind them. After death silenced both walkers downstairs, Luka paused to listen. He could hear footsteps upstairs and could only assume they were undead as well. The noise from down here must have stirred their attention. "Well, no point in being quiet now. They've heard us upstairs." He walked over to Radu and extended a hand to help the boy up. "Did it bite you? Did you get any blood in your mouth?" he asked, looking down at Radu's soaked shirt.

Radu scowled at the mess on his shirt and as Luka spoke, he could interpret what Luka had asked. With a scowl he jerked his chin upward so that Luka could see that the blood was not on his face, just on his neck, nowhere near his lips. His way of saying, 'No, see?' The grimace did not fade as he lowered his chin to a natural level as the coagulated blood felt like chunky goop gathering in his collar bones. His eyes shifted darkly toward the staircase as he made to follow Luka, forgetting, though not entirely, about the sick on him as he went back to business, wanting to clear the house entirely before they cozied down into too much conversation. Anca nodded to Luka after her eyes grazed over the walker that he'd shot behind them, silently thanking him for the kill.

LUKAAt the staircase leading upstairs Luka paused to listen. It sounded like two, maybe three more walkers had made their way upstairs. When the infection had first spread and Luka was forced to kill for survival, he would often get caught up thinking about who these walkers used to be. Did they live in this farm house before the virus spread or did they wander here looking for safety like this group had? Now, the thought didn't even cross his mind as he walked up the stairs with his crossbow aimed head-high into the open door frames. Rather than walk into a room where he might be cornered, Luka called out to draw the walkers closer to them. He felt this would make things easier, rather than going in after them. "Hey! Any living in there come out with your hands up or be shot on sight!" He shouted without lowering his weapon. He had no doubt in his mind that the bodies upstairs weren't living, and his suspicions were confirmed as two more walkers stumbled their way out towards his voice. They looked to have been here for a while, because they appeared to be more rotten than others he had seen so they moved very slowly. Luka quickly fired one arrow into the head of a female, reloaded, and shot one into the eye socket of what used to be a young man.

Radu, followed closely by Anca who struggled retrieving her lodged machete quickly before she was left behind, flanked Luka up the stairs. Once to the second floor, there was a split. While Luka faced one direction, taking out a few walkers, Radu faced the other, Anca looking both ways frantically wanting to help both ways. As the walkers Luka shot hit the floor, another came toward Radu from the opposite direction. He waited, and waited until the walker stumbled closer, anticipating the perfect strike until it was just before him and then- Swish! Radu sliced clean across the head, this walker being older, its head was weaker, easier to cut right through. The house dropped silent. Anca licked her lips, still holding tightly onto her weapon, her knuckles turning white. Radu felt disgusted after the bloodbath he'd taken downstairs. Both the twins held their breath listening for any other noise, any other clue that there were more in the house. They heard nothing, but the house would be swept several times over to be positive. Radu walked through several of the nearest upstairs rooms, checking each nook, each closet, even under the beds... Every room he looked in, he closed the door on the way out as a way to note which rooms had been checked once. No more so far...

LUKALuka walked up to the top of the steps to inspect the walkers briefly. It was true they were old, and he grimaced at the thought of dragging the bodies outside but it had to be done. He planted his boot on the corpse's face, and tugged out his arrow, then did the same to the second walker. He glanced up as Radu walked through each of the rooms, checking and re-checking for danger, and he realized how relieved he was to have paired up with a group who seemed to know what to do to survive. It was a load off his back, although he would still worry about them, but at least he wouldn't have to carry them along. "I'm glad that went somewhat smoothly..." Luka said quietly, and turned his head towards Anca on the stairs. He flashed her a half-smile then knelt down beside one of the bodies and used a piece of its clothing to wipe off his used arrows. "This place is old, but these old houses were built pretty strong. If we barricade the windows and doors this would make a great shelter." He stood and looked around. There were windows in every room so at any one time, you could see all corners of the property surrounding the farm house. It would be great for spotting walkers at a distance. He was already forming strategies in his head for defending the place.

Anca smiled crookedly as Luka had given her a grin. It felt to her like this was perhaps the first time she'd seen him smile. Radu was still making the same expression of disgust, but it was now more pitiful that the house was cleared of danger. Each room had been checked and rechecked again. Now his mouth pulled into a sort of parted-lip frown, his eyebrows pulling together as he tugged the collar of his shirt away from himself with one finger, the blackish, curdled blood already beginning to settle and dry into a plaster-consistency paste. He was afraid to pull the shirt over his head, it was bad enough having it on his neck, let alone his face. "Have you ever seen those grates on storefronts or on the outside of high up windows to keep children from falling out?" Anca looked at Luka, her mind at work. "They can be quite expensive, the tough wrought iron ones, but I have mon-" she cut off, realizing money was obsolete and stores were no longer in business. Little moments like these made her wonder how she was possibly able to forget how the world had changed. (I'm sorry if I misread your previous post, I read it as you walked to the top of the stairs and called them lol Sorry if I was wrong xp )

LUKALuka rubbed his chin in thought about what she said. He had seen some stores with bars on the front, but the thought of going back into town to rip them off made Luka groan subconsciously. "Its a good idea... Maybe we could find something inside this place that could bar up the windows." He looked around for a moment. The house was old, and because of this most of the things inside were wooden and not iron but anything was better than glass for keeping back zombies. "You know what I was thinking... Aside from boarding up the windows, maybe we should rig up some device outside to warn us of approaching walkers. Like a trip-line with a bell on it. If a walker stumbles into the string, the bell makes a noise so we could be alerted before they get too close."

Anca nodded when he mentioned the trip-line. "That's a good idea..." Her eyes began wandering around the room they were in, hands on her hips, looking for ideas, something they could use to make any of their ideas possible. Radu stumbled in from a room on the first level, a hand over his face as he nearly crashed into an opposing wall. He was practically gagging. When Anca approached to see what his deal was, he held out an arm to her, sternly speaking, "Nu, stati inapoi," Anca cocked her head to the side, drawing her eyebrows together in protest, "Raa-duu..." She pouted her lips subconsciously, "Lasa-ma prin," Radu continued to hold her back, and she didn't put up too much of a fight. "Luka," Radu said, looking up to find the other man. Without knowing hardly any English, he motioned for Luka to come toward him and spoke the single word, heavily accented, "'Pleece?'" Radu had found the room that the former residents had killed themselves in, their goodbyes and apologies and pleas to be forgiven humbly scrolled on the wall in a substance that had almost worn away. Doubtlessly blood.

LUKAUpon hearing his name, Luka stepped closer to Radu. Though he hardly knew either of them, he had figured Radu to be pretty tough so whatever he had seen obviously shook him up. Luka groaned inwardly, but his expressions remained calm. "What is it?" He answered back, trying to keep his phrases short and simply so maybe Radu would pick up a word or two. He stepped forward then looked over the man's shoulder to the room he had come from. The door was slightly ajar, he couldn't see what had upset Radu but the stench emanating from the room his Luka like a brick wall, and he immediately recognized it was the smell of decaying flesh. He spun around and put his hands on the twins, one on each of their shoulders and nudged them towards the front door, away from the room. Anca would be scarred for life if she saw, so he wanted her out of the house while he took care of things. Radu, he could only assume, would understand and keep her safely away. Luka glanced at the male twin, looking at him, then Anca, then nudged his head towards the front door, out into the yard. Hopefully Radu would understand, take her outside.Luka groaned and released the twin's shoulders, leaving Radu to remove his sister, and he turned his back and walked over to the room. He took a deep breath, opened the door, and stepped inside, closing the door behind him so he wouldn't be followed. "Oh... my... God..." Luka whispered. He quickly learned he wouldn't be able to talk in here, because opening his mouth in this putrid room made him want to vomit. The bodies of the family were laying on the ground, all in end stages of decomposition. They were hardly recognizable as humans anymore, the only clue being the skeletons protruding from rotten, liquid flesh. Luke could never let the younger ones in his group do this kind of work. What kind of man would he be if he did? Quickly, he tucked his pants into his boots and lifted his shirt to cover his face. First, he went around and checked to see if any of these skeletons could reanimate. They couldn't. They were just dead, not infected. Luka glanced over at the small window at the end of the room. He could barely see though it there were so many flies on the other side, lured by the smell and trying to get inside. He stepped over the bodies and pounded his fist on the window. The flies on the outside scattered, then Luka pried the window open to let in some air. He paused to think about how to get rid of the bodies. The easiest thing would be not to move the bodies, because they resembled soup more than human beings now. So he moved away the few pieces of furniture that was in the room, then squatted down on the floor and began rolling the bodies up on the rug they lay on. Underneath the rug, the wood floor was stained black from stagnant blood. The floorboards would probably be weak from all the moisture, so he stepped over it carefully and opened the door to the room. He peeked out, to make sure Anca wasn't near enough to see before he would try to pull the bodies out of the house.
