Benji lives with his parents and his grandparents in a large condo that is set in one of the cleaner parts of Death City. Benji's room is on the second floor. Due to the strict lifestyle of his parents, the rooms are always clean and almost nothing is out of place. The only time something is allowed to be broken is when Benji is being 'tested' (AKA one of his family members does a sneak attack on him.)

For the whole time since they have been walking, Benji had been giving Break a few tips on what to NOT do around his family. Benji knew Break wouldn't even try to listen, but all the talking kept him from being anxious. They already made it into the condominium and were now standing in the elevator heading for the 6th floor. "-and just remember to always keep eye contact with them, 'kay? That's also one of their many pet peeves," Benji let out an exhausted sigh, a sign that he was done talking. The elevator door made a "ding" sound as it came to an abrupt stop and the doors slid open.

"Finally," Benji mumbled as he stepped out. The blonde made his way down the hall toward a door with "602-Buckley" labeled on the plate. Benji took a key out of his jacket and slipped it into the hole, unlocking the door. "Here it is, just stay cool." Benji said. The last few words were meant more for him then Break.

"Mother, Father, I'm back and I brought a guest," Benji announced as he opened the door.

"Benjamin, do you have any idea how late it is? Shibusen classes ended hours ago," stepping out of the kitchen, neatly dressed in a black skirt and a white blouse, was a middle-aged woman who had blonde hair tied in a bun. "honestly, I expected our son to know better than to come home late on a school day-" The woman seemed to have froze in place when she saw Break.

"Um...Mother, I would like you to meet my weapon partner,"

Break didn't interrupt on their way up there, nor did he really care much to follow directions. He'd probably do things his own way regardless, so Benji must have known that he wasn't going to get much out of specific instructions.

He didn't offer any support or rebellion on the way there, keeping himself firmly rooted in silence. When the key turned, he prepared himself mentally for what was to follow, though he wasn't particularly nervous to begin with. In fact, he planned to follow Benji's last advice down to the letter, even doing him the favor of not picking any major fights.

He allowed Benji to greet them and registered his mother's response. That was a bit of an oddity to Break. He never greeted his family, and there was no way they'd have mentioned anything back like that. In fact, unless he was training with them that day, his parents probably wouldn't have been home. It was a bit of an uncomfortable situation when he came face-to-face with Benji's mother right off the bat.

He was similarly frozen, trying to figure out what was polite in this situation. For the Lyndel family, they always allowed others to introduce themselves first, it was just kind of a rule, but he didn't think that others quite caught on, so he gave a short nod, and introduced himself, "Break Lyndel, I'm Benji's partner."

"Oh...It's nice to meet you....Break...What an interesting name..." Mrs. Buckley stared at the tall male for a few second, prompting Benji to begin worrying. 'Please don't kick him out-please dont' kick him out-please don't kick him out.' Benji was mentally chanting, knowing that if his mom forced Break out, that meant he would have to face her wrath all alone. He was still smiling on the outside, but in the inside he was going crazy.

"Yeah, 'Break', it's fitting for him, right?" Benji said in an attempt to make the situation less awkward. "Indeed, it does fit him," Mrs. Buckley walked up to Break. Benji looked at the two, and noticed that with her heels on, his mom was just as tall as the swordbreaker.

"Stern face....Confident stance...." Mrs. Buckley started walking circles around the weapon, as if analyzing every part of his body. Suddenly she stopped and was standing in front of him again, this time looking right at his face. "There's a fierce spark in your eyes as well...." Benji's mother stood silent for another few seconds. Benji couldn't help but scowl, annoyed by his mom's habit of analyzing every person she meets.

"Hm...." Mrs.Buckley turned around and started walking toward the kitchen, "Why don't you two have a seat in the living room? I'll call down your father and grandfather, and then we can continue our talk."

"She's called that a 'talk'?" Benji softly mumbled before shaking his head, "Whatever, come on Break, the living room is this way."

Break was not entirely sure what was happening here. Benji and his mother seemed to be engaging in some greeting that even Break knew was not common. Without a clue as to how to react to this all, he simply allowed the tall woman to analyze him without letting out a single breath. Break really did feel like an object here, like a Weapon without the human form. Though he knew she was simply looking him over and trying to see how he measured up as a person, Break felt like he was already in his knife form and being tested.

Regardless of his discomfort, Break saw this as a challenge, and stood defiantly, not letting his gaze drop or his expression lesson. When she finally did walk away, Break let out his pent-up breath and his harsh features seemed to lessen considerably. He muttered to Benji, trying not to attract her attention again, "What just happened here?"

Break followed his Meister into the living room without protest, taking a seat as directed and trying to get a handle on all of what was happening. This was far too close for comfort, especially after years of his parents either not being there or simply allowing him unthinkable levels of freedom when they were there. He looked slightly put off, but still as determined as ever, still as strong when he turned his attention to Benji, "I didn't sign up for this. I'm not some kind of show dog, you know, and I'm not going to sit through more of that."

"I'm sorry. I'm really, really sorry man." Benji apologized, doing a slight bow, which looked awkward since he was sitting down. "My mom has a tendency to analyze those she meets for the first time. It's a habit she developed back in her days at the academy. She says it helped her win against many opponents....I know it's a bit freaky, but look on the bright side...She didn't kick you out like she did with a few of my other friends!" Benji let out a sad sigh when he remembered the times back in his childhood when he had to sneak some of his friends into the condo so they wouldn't have to deal with his mother.

"Oh Benjamin, my boy, you've always been sneaky little rascal, haven't you?"

Benji straightened up in his seat, his eyes wide with fear, when he heard the familiar voice. "GOT'CHA!" Benji jumped out of his seat just in time to dodge a cane that suddenly slammed down on the couch. "Impressive, but can you handle this?" In a flash, someone jumped over the couch and started thrusting the cane at Benji multiple times- as if it was a fencing sword. Benji quickly dodged as much as possible, going around the living room a few times. It was surprising that they didn't break anything in the process. Having enough of this, Benji quickly dodged an incoming thrust, before grabbing the cane and pulling at it. The cane slipped out of the wielder's hand and was now in Benji's possession. The blonde pointed it at his attacker, a fierce glare on his face. "What the hell, Grandpa!? Can't you see we have a guest!?" Benji shouted.

The person was a man around his late 60s. He looked like a clean cut gentleman: he stood straight, had combed gray hair, wore a brown and white sweat vest with nice dress pants, had a pipe in his mouth, and had a fine mustache to complete the picture.

"Hahaha- you've gotten better my boy. Quick on your feet, just like I taught you! Now let's see about your little friend here." Before Benji could say anything, his grandfather grabbed the cane and kicked the teen down so that it would be released form his grip. The old man looked at Break with a flash in his eyes before charging at him with the wooden stick like a knight charging into battle.

"Look, you're a good Meister, but I'm not a partner type, and these introductions make it feel too settled," Break admitted, not fully comfortable with what took place. In his mind, Benji would be around until the tournament, then after that, both could start their searches if they needed. Then again, Benji did say that his parents would react badly if they just fought in the tournament, so remembering his reason for being here, Break attempted to add, "I'll keep it cool, but try to deflect so--Woah what the hell?!"

His mood changed radically when Benji leapt from his place in response to the voice. Break lightened up and felt right in his element for the surprise. He was about to transform into his swordbreaker form to combat this new foe, but realizing that he was just a relative of Benji's, Break watched with some degree of confusion mixed in with his new found comfort.

With a more focused, alive voice, Break agreed, "This I can deal with. You're a million years too late to challenge me, old man."

Like a soldier, he stood resolute, gaze forward and knees bent. No muscle even twitched in his statuesque defense, he was far too experienced to let adrenaline override his calm. He was confident enough to use the same tactic that he always used for stabbing weapons. When the cane was within attack range, Break suddenly dashed in from the side away from the older attacker's body and gripped the base of the cane just above his hand with practiced precision, the other against what would have been the blade's flat side.

He didn't quite know how well the man would react, but Break intended to push the cane to the floor and past him, using his hand on the "handle" as a lever to give him more force in the attack. That was the next step, though, as he planned it, but it was up to the gentleman's reaction speed whether or not that worked.

[ooc// Just for the record, I'm giving you the decision on whether the planned attack works or not, to avoid power playing.]

"Ow," Benji put a hand on his throbbing abdomen before attempting to sit up, "damn it, why does he always play dirty like that!" The blonde took a second to calm himself down, but the moment he heard Break accept his grandfather's challenge, he immediately turned his head to watch. Seeing Break quickly react to the old man's attack amazed Benji . It was a common stereotype that weapons were useless in battle without their meister, but like a few others before, Break proved such an idea wrong.

"Amazing, I've never seen a weapon react so quickly to an attack since my wife! No wonder my daughter-in-law didn't boot you out like she does with many others." Benji's grandfather smirked, allowing himself to get caught by the young male. "Don't hold back on me now, boy, just because I'm old doesn't mean I'm fragile! Do your worst!" The grandfather tightened his grip on the cane and attempted to pull Break in so he could use his free hand to land a blow to his body. Whatever Break had plan he had to do it fast.

"Why must you taunt him..." Benji groaned.

Break was fully immersed in the battle, unable to even register his partner at the moment. It was almost frightening, how thoroughly fixated he was on every movement and small detail, unable to see anything that didn't relate to him and his opponent. With pride, Break responded to the complement, "I'm a Lyndel, a swordbreaker. I take pride in my skill."

Going with the flow of the fight, Break allowed himself to be pulled in, though he kept only one hand on the cane and added to its acceleration, using Benji's grandfather's motion to push it further than it wanted to go. With the space between them clear, Break used the man's arm and cane to trap his other arm, and pushed down with both hands just above his on the handle, hoping to lock him into a position where he couldn't attack.

Break never broke his constant scowl, but with a playful look to his eyes, he taunted, "Your move, then."

"Lyndel....I swear I've heard that name somewhere before but I can't seem to put my finger on it. I really must be getting old." Feeling Break catch his other arm and force both of his hands down, the old man grinned in excitement, "Clever boy, you got me all tied up and unable to attack! And you didn't even have to leave a single scratch on me, even more amazing!" Benji's grandfather started laughing, enjoying the fight. "Well how about we, like the kids say, 'kick it up a notch'!?" His grandfather's body notably tensed up and he started clenching his hands into fists.

With a loud battle cry, it looked like the old man was about to do something grand. The moment he began to move though, he was suddenly stopped by someone smashing his head in with a blunt object.

The object that hit Grandpa Charles on the head looked like the round head of a mace, but it was the transformed hand of an old woman who had a disappointed look on her face. "Honestly, Charles, why must you go around picking fights so late at night?" Benji let out a sigh "Grandma to the rescue, as always." His grandmother was dressed in a simple night gown under a purple jacket. She would have looked like a gentle old lady if she didn't just smash her husbands head in with her transformed hand.

"I'm very sorry, young man. We don't usually fight at this time of the day. My name is Macy, I'm Benjamin's grandmother." Macy raised up her weapon hand, "And just like you, I'm a demon weapon. My husband's demon weapon, to be more specific. It's nice to meet you.". "My dear, why must you interrupt our fine battle! I was just about to-" Before Charles could finish talking, his wife slammed her club into his head again. "Please ignore him from now on. I'm more interested in hearing how you met my dear grandson.". "Grandma, please don't look so happy when you're abusing Gramps," Benji mumbled, finally getting back to his feet and walking over to Break. "You okay, man?"

"Remember me, then, as your first chance to face one. It's been an honor fighting you," Break nodded, not entirely unfamiliar with the idea of carrying on a conversation during a fight. It even felt more comfortable this way, when you could see a person for who they really were, no trying to please you or pretend to be a friend; in fights, you had to be yourself and react like yourself, whether that involved charging or deception. In that sense, Break could confidently say that he knew most people better than their friends did, because they didn't have to put on an act or try to please him. With a sense of satisfaction, Break agreed, "If you think that'll be enough..."

What happened next, however, changed Break's steely gaze completely. His scowl, though somehow kind and passionate, was overtaken by a look of surprise and excitement, feeling the beginning of a move that could turn the tide. He tightened his grip and readied for a true fight, all before it came to a shocking end.

For a while, Break watched in silence, removing his hands from the cane. The situation panned out as his all-too-familiar adrenaline burst slowly crept away. The older woman had made her introduction, though what he seemed to gather from all of that was a simple, "What time of the day do you all fight?"

After a second, he shook his head, and added a simple, "I'm Swordbreaker Lyndel, though I prefer Break."

"Yeah, just fine," Break's mind was, of course, on the nature of the battle. What was he about to do, exactly? How would a fast fighter wield a mace? Break wanted to fight again, to conquer this style used by an experienced Meister. Not now, though. When Macy asked Break how he met Benji, all the Weapon could do was shoot a pleading look at Benji, asking him to tell the story.

"Oh, we usually test Benjamin in the morning, in order to get him ready for the day," Macy giggled, as if talking about beating up her grandson was normal. The old woman turned her hand back to normal before pulling up her husband. "Ow- sweetheart, be gentle, you just beat my head in!". "And if you keep talking back to me like that, I'll do it again." The grandmother threatened, forcing Charles to sit on the couch before taking a seat next to him. She gestured Benji and Break to go back to sitting on the couch. "Now, I know your mother and father aren't here yet, but I'm very curious as to how you two met. Please, go on."

Benji starting becoming more anxious. The look Break gave him before they sat down was enough to tell him that he didn't want to talk. Benji couldn't blame him though, since their first meeting wasn't exactly the friendliest. Break caused a teacher to be severely injured, for crying out loud! That would get him kicked out of the condo for sure! He also felt that telling his grandparents that Break fought against a Black Blood user wouldn't sit too well and spark far too many questions, and he didn't feel like answering them. Benji had no other choice but to fabricate something.

"W-well, you see- we met on the training grounds at Shibusen! I got lost but then I saw Break training! I've never seen a weapon fight by himself like Break could, and so I was really, really impressed! I even assumed he was a meister, which is what I asked if he was one when I approached him! You should have seen my face when he told me he was a weapon- my mind was blown, I was like WOW!" Benji let out a loud, awkward laugh "So anyway, I asked him what kind of weapon he was and he said he was a dagger, and I said 'awesome' because you know me, I like my weapons small! And then he told me about this tournament that was coming up and that he needed a partner to participate. So I pretty much said 'I'll be your partner!' and he agreed. So we tested our resonance out, and we were successful! So we finalized our partnership and now we're here, all gathered around shooting the air." Benji let out another really awkward laugh.

"Hahaha," Charles joined in laughing, "that's my boy, he knows how to pick 'em!"

"How interesting, I knew you would find the perfect partner on just the first day. Why, it took me a whole week into the first semester for me to meet your grandfather!" Macy stated, joining in laughing as well.

Going unnoticed by his grandparents, Benji shot Break and apologetic look, as he mentally chanted the words "I'm sorry."

"Mornings, eh? Good to know," Break muttered, registering some time he should be over, just in case something exciting was happening. He actually really liked this family, treating fighting as a part of their lifestyle. For that much, Break had respect, it meant that they had a stronger bond than most.

Break knew that Benji was under some stress, but after he heard his story, Break mentally made a decision. For better or worse, it was time for Benji to start becoming a stronger partner. It was partially what made him so difficult to work with, but Break refused to work with someone who didn't stick to the truth no matter what. As much of a fight addict as he was, Break had very strong morals, and in that, he was clearly annoyed. When Benji looked his way apologetically, Break shot him a glare.

Break looked straight at his partner's grandparents, and in an even tone, explained, "Benji's only told half the story. Yeah, he first saw me in a fight, but it wasn't exactly my best moment. I failed miserably in a fight against a Black Blood in the school, taking their resonance after an attack from him was intercepted by a teacher, to save me. Benji wasn't happy about that, I know I screwed up, but that's why we teamed up. I'm not gong to sit back and let my failure overcome me, that's the path of a man. I'm not going to ask your permission, but this is Benji's decision, and you need to know the full story because I'm going to work with him if he'll have me as his Weapon."

All at once, the words just spilled out, fueled by his anger at how his family had directed Benji to have to hide things and feel fear that he couldn't make a decision for himself. At the very least, Break should work on his tact, since he continued before anyone could move, "This is my challenge, think whatever you will. I care very little of your opinion of me, but Benji is the only one I trust to wield me in battle, and I'm leaving my faith in him as a partner."

Without realizing it, Break had risen from his seat during his speech. Feeling rather strange about it, he simply cleared his throat and sat back down, ready to deal with the consequences. Even if he was kicked right out, that would have been a better thing for him than knowing that his honor was compromised.
