Inoshishioni found himself laying out in a pile of leaves, head back against a tree. He was listening to the sounds of the tree and thinking over the day before. He was nearly to when he went to sleep, however, and that was a nice change of pace. Usually the day lacked enough hours to sufficiently review what had come before. Time was never so obliging as to allow sufficient amount of rumination. But now he would have the opportunity to consider the subconscious images that his mind had wrought the night before. It was somewhat lonely, of course, however there were trade offs. He could be lonely and have the time to think, or he could have companionship and no time. Both had benefits, both had negatives. Still, a good mix of both made for a pleasant existence.

Esperanza had once again managed to get herself lost in the forest surrounding her home. She stepped lightly looking around for any familiar landmarks. Not seeing anything that looked familiar she sighed to herself. It was at times like this that she wished her sense of direction was better. She continued to slowly walk hoping to find something that would help her figure out just where she had manged to end up this time. Not watching where she was going she was taken completely by surprise when she tripped. Looking up from where she had landed on the ground she blinked in shock. It would seem she had manged to literally trip over someone.

He blinked as the mare landed On him. Well he was glad that he was there to catch her, so that she did not get hurt, yet he doubted his spines were overly comfortable. His spirits raced around them both, leaving cold trails like ethereal snails. "Are you quite alright?" he asked, looking up at the lovely lady who was resting upon his flank. It had been quite the unusual way to take a reprieve from his thoughts.

As the shock started to fade she realized her situation, she was sprawled half on the unknown stallion. Scrambling up she flushed more embarrassed then she could ever remember being before. "I'm sorry, I'm lost and wasn't paying attention to where I was going. I hope I didn't hurt you," she snapped her mouth closed as she noticed she was babbling. When his question registered in her mind she ducked her head in an attempt to hide behind her too short mane. "I'm alright," timidly she looked over to him, "are you alright?"

He listened to her, fighting with a small smile. Maintaining a neutral expression that bordered on stoic, he nodded once and stood. "I am quite alright, myself, thank you. I consider it fortunate that I was able to catch you, and save you from potential harm." He considered her words, before speaking again. "You said that you were lost, mayhaps, could I be of some assistance, m'lady?"

Her eyes widened a fraction, she had never heard anyone speak in such a manner before. "Do you know in which direction the ocean is?" Home was near the ocean so if she headed towards the ocean sooner or later she should reach familiar territory. Inching closer to him she peered curiously at the spirits, she was puzzled by them, having never seen anything like them before. She blinked, was she imagining things or could she see right though them?

He considered that as she moved closer. The ocean. He couldn't recall ever having been there himself, however he had heard a fair amount about the place, or so he believed. And was it not true that traveling in a straight line in any direction past all obstacles would eventually lead one to the ocean? Certainly some parts of the ocean were nearer then other, but did she need a specific body of ocean, or would any do? She did not seem aquatic at first, or even second glance, however, he knew that appearances could often be deceiving and presumptions were presumptuous. "I am confident that I could find the ocean, yes," he said, "and I would be pleased to use that knowledge to your benefit, however I am unaware of the exact size and scope of the ocean, other then to say that it is large. Is there a specific landmark, such as it would be, to guide our way?" Of course, he realized after he spoke, that had there been one at ease, she would not have become bewildered. Why did he never think adequately before he spoke?

She stood there blinking at him as she tried to puzzle out what he was saying. If she understand correctly then he didn't know what way the ocean was but was willing to help her find her way. She considered what landmarks might be known even to those not from the area. There was the giant tree that some soq used as a meeting place and there was the river. Wait, the river, why hadn't she thought of that before? "There's a river that flows down from the mountains and passes through the forest on its way to the ocean, do you know it?" If she followed the river she'd be home in no time, unless she followed it the wrong way. Was the ocean upstream or downstream? Oh dear, maybe it wouldn't be so easy to get home after all.

Well that certainly made things easier. All rivers eventually found the ocean one way or another, so alone that wouldn't help. However, she also said in the forest, and the implication, as they were in one at the moment, this was the forest that she referenced. Couldn't be more then a half dozen rivers and streams in the woods. Now as it happened, he had been drinking from one just a few hours before. He could easily retrace his steps, and then it would be a simple enough task, in theory, to follow the water downstream to the ocean. So long as the obstacles in the way were not too many. In theory, if this were the river that she knew, it would not descend underground, fouling the trail. It was worth the attempt, anyway. "Alright, this should not be overly onerous, m'lady. This way, if you would." With a small stretch, he began the careful journey back to the river.

She hesitated to follow him. She was no longer at an age where she would blindly trust anyone she met. While so far he had been pleasant if somewhat bored sounding, she was still uneasy about following him into the unknown. So many of the horror stories she had heard started in a similar way to the situation she now found herself in. She stood there debating with herself as he got farther away. Not wanting to loss sight of him she made up her mind and hurried to catch up hoping as she did that she wasn't going to become anythings dinner.

He glanced back when he saw that she was lagging, and slowed until she had once again caught up. "Are you quite alright, miss?" he asked with some apparent concern. Had she been injured in the collision? Perhaps he should be keeping his eyes out for medicinal plants along the way. He was displeased with his level of knowledge of such things. Clearly he needed a teacher to run him though the finer points. He knew little more of healing herbs then he presumed that most did. Aloe, chamomile, mint... The basics, really. What, though were it something else. A snake bite, for instance, without knowing the kind of venom used, the best that he could hope for would be removal of the poison, but that would need to be acted upon soon.

She was startled at the concern in his voice. "I'm a little tried but otherwise fine," she replied with a soft smile and relaxed a bit, if he was concerned about her well being then he probably wasn't going to lead her purposely into danger. Watching him instead of where she was going caused her to nearly run into a tree. Catching the looming bulk out of the corner of her eye she stopped and stared at it. Wide eyed she moved until she was practically pressed against her companion. She would have sworn that tree hadn't been there before. Being in an unfamiliar part of the forest doesn't make it suddenly haunted she chided herself continuing to stare at the tree.

He kept an eye on her as they walked, but admittedly most of his attention was on the path. He was trying to make sure they were making the shortest possible trail between where he had been resting and the river. So while he saw her almost run into the tree, he did not register what had almost transpired until she was pressed into his side. He gave her neck a reassuring nudge. He pursed his lips, considering. Perhaps... Could it be that she had vision problems? That would make much sense. However, what could then be done? He knew of a philosophic device the two leggers called glasses or some such, that were supposed to correct vision through a mix of what he presumed were magical and mechanical means. But rare in fact did a Soquili in his experience actually deign to wear them. How would she take the suggestion that she look into, pun unintended of course, obtaining a pair? Would she be insulted or intrigued. Mayhaps he should investigate further as to whether or not she actually needed them, and as to her temperament. Perhaps a better solution, like a familiar who could aid her around obstacles, would be preferable, and present itself. Until such a time when he could broach the subject, or a solution appeared, he would have to serve in that capacity. He felt her warm against his side. Not that he minded, overmuch.
