I've chosen this book to write a review on for my Global Politics class. I'm only on chapter four at the moment, but it is an interesting read so far. It's a recent publication from a Western female anthropologist and it explores the issues in today's globalized world regarding pen pals, Internet relationships, and "mail-order brides." The author takes it from more than just the viewpoint of the women in these relationships because she also includes heavy research from the men who seek Asian women as opposed to their local American cultured women.

One of the main focuses is to dispell the myth that these women are uneducated "victims" whom prefer to be a "foreigner's whore rather than a pauper's wife" and it is informative as to how the women are not true commodities that flow across borders as capital, which many are led to believe through stereotypes or media portrayals. These women make informed decisions and not all of them are looking for marriage when they engage in pen pal organizations.

Has anyone read it? We can also discuss your views on the issues regarding our increasingly interconnected world. I will include a more thorough evaluation once I have finished reading the book.
