[ + Story + ]

The world of Avalar is a magical place, and is home to creatures beyond your wildest dreams. Avalar is home to three different Realms, where each Realm is home to several strange, distant lands that can be reached by magical portals.
Each Realm is home to royalty, Princes and Princesses that oversee the protection not only of their homes, but also of the creatures within the entire existence of Avalar. These Princes and Princesses are of different blood, race, and ability, but each share a special friendship with each other, a sacred peace that has lasted for what could have been an eternity.
The first of the Realms is known as Summer Forest; it is where the sun lingers over the sky, burning bright and hot – where there are no changes except for when the sun rises and sets. Flowers remain in bloom year long, and creatures roam the hills, change in neither temperature nor season. The castle of the Realm resides beside a calm, crystal-clear lake – this is where the Princess of Summer Forest resides.
Autumn Plains is as the name implies; here, it is Autumn year round. The trees, although they appear to be dying, always hold their colorful leaves – the transition between the seasons of Summer and Winter. The air is rarely hot, but the sun continues to rise and set in the sky, bringing a cool, autumn breeze for its creatures to enjoy. The palace of the Autumn Realm is set into a bold mountain, giving its Princess the ability to watch over all her Realm.
Winter Tundra, as you may have already assumed, is the Realm where the season of Winter is eternal. Creatures are yet abundant – those adapted to the weather reside within the realm. The landscape is dotted with trees, bushes, and mountains suited for the cold weather; as well as the occasional, not-always frozen, lake. And, though a rare sight within the Winter Realm, one can find a running waterfall (how else would they survive?), usually hidden within a cavern or connected to a small creek. The palace of the Winter Realm resides atop the tundra, protected by a dense forest of pine trees and marked by a large pool of water with dual waterfalls marking its elegance.

If the Prince or Princess can not be found in his or her respected Realm, they can be found in another Realm (visiting, for example), or in one of the separate Portals that are located within their Realms.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Peace had existed for centuries; the Realms, never at war, never in disagreement, always without bloodshed. A special Festival of Peace was held in a different Realm each annual; where they would celebrate friendship, peace, sometimes feelings that blossomed of something more than just friendship. It had been like that, peaceful, since before the Princes and Princesses were born, and they were happy. However, their story did not have a happily-ever-after.

Not much time had passed after the conclusion of the previous Festival, a shadow had begun to fall over the world of Avalar. Darkness came, shadows brought fear to the creatures, and began to wreak havoc among the lands. It was as if they had appeared out of thin air – shadows, monsters, attacked the Princes and Princesses, tried to either capture or kill them. As if someone had planned it. The shadows were able to shape-shift, whether from miscellaneous objects such as weapons, or from the treasures that each Realm possessed. The skies turned black, but only for a few days; a sign, an omen telling the Princes and Princesses that they were in danger. Whomever, and whatever, was controlling these shadows, monstrous creatures, would not stop until they had complete control over both the nobles and the entire world of Avalar.

Fortunately for the Princes and Princesses, not every Portal they entire prove dangerous for their safety. A few, albeit limited, sacred portals still provide safety for them, protecting from their enemies, the Shadows. How? It is unknown even to the creatures that guard the Portals, but, regardless, those are the few that serve as the only safe places they can hide, rest, and regain their strength before they attempt to fight for their Realms, for Avalar.

And so, the story begins here, with the Princes and Princesses fighting for their lives, their freedom...

[ + The Three Realms + ]

+Summer Forest: The main realm of Avalar, home to the Summer Princess. It is summer here year round, with no changes in temperature whatsoever. While it does rain on occasion, it is always sunny, with hardly a cloud in the sky. The castle is surrounded by endless pools of water, in which you must swim through to reach most of its Portals. A forest also surrounds it, such as its name implies, in which there are abundant trees, small creatures, and plenty of flowers.

+Autumn Plains: The second realm of Avalar, home of the Autumn Princess. Again, as implied by name, it is autumn here year round with no changes in temperature either. It rarely rains here, and is mostly cool and sunny. The trees here are always colorful and never lose their leaves, and the pathways are lined with colorful bushes. Here, too, are pools of water, though more for decoration. The castle is surrounded by high stone walls, and several bridges connect to different Portals.

+Winter Tundra: The final realm of Avalar, bearing home to the Winter Prince. As you could have guessed, it is winter here year round with no changes at all. And, due to that, it snows here most of the time, with the occasional sunny day. Most of the water here is frozen, with a waterfall or two still freely flowing. There are plenty of snow-covered pine trees here, which are homes to small creatures.

+Shadow Realm: Not much is known about this place, other than that it appeared once darkness fell over their world. And, as far as anyone brave enough to go into has seen, it is covered in darkness and is home to the shadows.

People call me...
Hadyn Alyss Laverne
Though I prefer
Hadyn or Alyss (only if you know me extremely well)
Am I really this old?
Twenty
What am I?
Draconian
I'm pretty damn sure.
Female
When I look in the mirror, I see...
A warrior
What people think I'm like.
Due to the fact that she is Princess of the Summer Realm, Hadyn tends to be rather hot-headed. This is not necessarily because she manipulates the element of Fire; rather, she can be easily irritated, and it does not take much to start a fight with her. Hadyn spends most of her time either sparring - with other creatures, with the other Princess and/or Prince - or she can be found meditating in a grove of trees, centering her concentration over her connection with the element of Fire.
Despite her hot-headed tendencies, Hadyn does care for others, as she cares for the Realm of Summer. She is fiercely protective of those she considers to be her friends, and will not hesitate to defend them if they are in trouble.
Let's review the past.
Hadyn had always been a child of the Summer Realm; she had been born during the celebration of the Summer Solstice, much to the Realm's joy. Her parents, the King and Queen, had watched over her as she aged - a fierce, independent young woman with a fiery temper. Ever since she had been old enough to learn of her ability to manipulate the element of Fire, Hadyn insisted that she be trained and tested like any other warrior; she refused to learn the 'art' of being proper, nor did she want to be spoiled, treated like a delicate Princess.
Hadyn started training herself, in secret, by the age of thirteen; when her parents discovered her accidentally lighting areas of the palace on fire, they finally allowed her to be trained by a Master of the element.
By the time she was of sixteen annuals, she found a young phoenix while wandering around the palace dungeons; it had only just hatched, and was going through it's first burning - something that horrified her at first, but was now something she always watched, witnessed, to help the creature when needed.
And then, all of a sudden, it was her turn to rule the Summer Realm. Nothing could have prepared Hadyn for such a task, and yet the King and Queen had faith in her, that she would be a strong, just leader. She had just met the rulers of the other two Realms - a ceremony, held in Autumn Plains, was held for the crowning of the Prince of Winter Tundra, the Princess of Autumn Plains, and herself, as the Princess of Summer Forest. All of Avalar had attended; and now the trio were the closest of friends.

Since Draconian blood runs through her veins, Hadyn has the ability to exert control over the element of Fire. She uses this ability both to fight and to heal injured comrades.
Did I forget something?
A phoenix, which Hadyn had found as a small child, is now her close companion.

Jessica… or Jess
Am I really this old?
I am 19
What am I?
Human
I'm pretty sure.
I am female…
When I look in the mirror, I see…
((Picture coming soon… once I get back my scanner))
What people think I'm like.
I am a bit timid… people say I am kind but I think I am just selfish and a bit of a baby… I hate seeing people who are sick or hungry; I wish I could help them all, but more because I would rather be around happy, full people than weak, starving ones. I read a lot and I am not a fan of excitement or danger.
Let's review the past.
I am the second child and only daughter of the rulers of Autumn. My brother was supposed to rule, but he abdicated so he could marry a commoner. My parents disapproved and positively smothered me… in fact, I was almost never allowed outside the castle grounds. I read a lot of books about philosophy and governing, as well as magic. I learned how to encourage plant growth and use those plants to create some small remedies and meals. My father saw to it I was trained to defend myself, and though I tried very hard, the idea of stabbing something still makes me feel a bit nauseous, though the blood itself does not really bother me. When the shadows came I had nothing with me but the iron pot and ladle I was cooking with at the time, so I have not even a penny to my name nor a scrap of decent clothing…
Pretty please?
I like cooking, keeping things orderly, gardening, and pastries.
Eww.
I dislike suffering, for myself or others, discord, and fighting, along with leeks and the color orange.
Bring it on.
I’m not much of a fighter, but I can… persuade some of my green and leafy friends to tie you up or protect me.
I have something to show you.
My magic is primarily what might be called ‘green magic’… I can control plants, but usually only use this skill to make them produce more fruit or the like.
Did I forget something?
Since I was not allowed outside the castle as a child, I have no sense of direction. I’ve also never fallen in love…
You can't control me!

Zeph.
Am I really this old?
Twenty One.
What am I?
Nephilim.
I'm pretty damn sure.
Male. I thought that was obvious from the “Prince” part. And I don't approve of your language.
When I look in the mirror, I see...
A Healer
What people think I'm like.
I am not completely sure how other people view me, but I like to think that I am generally kind and warm-hearted, despite my wintry home. I try to keep an open mind, and am very forgiving. Probably since I am part angel, as are all Royals in the Tundra. Calm, patient, well-read, and understanding are words that I would use to describe myself, though I do not believe that my personality can be reduced to simple adjectives. I attempt to get along with most people, though apparently, I have a penchant for speaking “too properly,” and that can sometimes get on others' nerves.
Let's review the past.
Let's see...I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth to Royal Nephilim parents, and have always had full say in the control over my kingdom. I had a happy childhood, filled with nurturing, compassion, and creative encouragement. When I was crowned, along with my dear friends from the other Realms, I gained full control over my Tundra. Once the new prince is crowned, the King and Queen step down. That is just how it goes When I was a young man, I began exploring my kingdom and found that not every citizen shared the same cushy life as I. Though hunger and disease were not rampant, a close friend of mine was taken too early during an attack from the Shadows. They were after me, and yet she was the one who was hurt. I vowed to never let this happen again, and began studying the Healing Arts for a few years, gaining considerable control over my natural abilities. Now, I heal my ordinary citizens, while also defending myself and them from the Shadows. Hopefully, the rulers of the other Realms, along with my self, will find a way to rid ourselves of the blights.
Pretty please?
☩ Searching for rare creatures
☩ Reading and collecting books
☩ Public Speaking, Socializing.
☩ Helping those in need.

✕ Bugs. Luckily, we do not have many where I come from.
✕ Anything too sweet. Or too salty. Or too sour.

I have extraordinary healing powers, due to my royal blood, and am also very agile.

A True King
Let's review the past.
We have hidden for so long. We come out at night. We surround the air, linger behind doors, hide beneath beds. We are everywhere. In broad daylight, we live behind trees, trip beneath your feet. We have been stepped on, ignored, save for that brief moment when you know something is there. You light a candle, or pull the covers over your head, hoping we will leave. Yet we remain, silent, waiting, only watching.

Not anymore.

Long ago, there were rumors of a Fourth Realm of Avalar. One filled with darkness, hate, and death. Parents used it to scare their children into behaving.

But, as years and centuries passed, even the stories faded into nonexistence.

But I'll let you in on a secret.

We do exist. We always have. We are tired of being ignored. And I am the boogeyman.
What people think I'm like.
I have been called many words. Ruthless, cruel, merciless, maniacal, tenacious, arrogant, egotistical, sadistic, even demonic. However, I simply wish to give my Realm the respect it deserves, and reclaim my right to rule. Too long have these simpering, self-righteous fools held control of the land. So we have waited and bided our time, waiting until just this moment to attack. All the new rulers are young, and inexperienced. It is the perfect time for my army to rise, and finally take control.
Pretty please?
1. Darkness.
2. Being in Charge.
3. Meat.
4. Being amused.
5. Dragons.
Eww.
1. Being ignored.
2. Goody-two-shoes
3. The rulers of the other Realms.
4. Needless frivolity.
Bring it on.
Dual Swords
I have something to show you.
My powers are far reaching, and universal. I can control darkness itself. Be it through physical shadows, or the darkness in ones' heart. If a creature is even slightly susceptible to evil, I can enter their soul and use their physical shell to do my bidding.
Did I forget something?
Hmmm... some may say that I am omniscient, but there are certain instances where I am powerless. But let's not talk about them, shall we?
You can't control me!

[ + D e t a i l s , d e t a i l s . . . + ]

[This was kindly pointed out to me by Bree - the fact that there is little to no information about the world of Avalar. So, I haff reserved this particular... slot to describe the portals, creatures, and races to give y'all a better idea. :3]

+ P o r t a l s

Portals are simple in design, and serve as doorways to and from each of the Realms. In Summer Forest, they might look something like this; in Autumn Plains, the appear as simple stone arches; and in Winter Tundra, they form from ice.
Travel between the worlds as fairly simple; as one steps through (is pushed through, etc.) a Portal, the world goes black but for a brief moment, and it feels as though you are disconnected from your body. You land in the next world - it takes practice, but eventually one is able to land gracefully after traveling, rather than falling, being shot through the portal, and so forth.
They can be found under water, on floating islands - you name it.

The lands beyond the Realms are varying and wild; untamed, if you will. All kinds of creatures can be found in them - some living harmoniously, others quarreling over barriers and the like. Each Portal has its own destination, and each can connect the three Realms - if one wishes it. Few are sacred to the Prince and Princesses, as well as to the survival of their world, Avalar.

+ C r e a t u r e s

Centaurs are primarily found in grassy knolls; though, they prefer to live among rolling, green hills as far as the eye can see. Centaurs are known to be excellent healers, and will often welcome others into their abode for music and a meal.
Pans can also be found out in the open, or with in deep, densely-wooded areas. They are musicians with an excellent gift - and are often heard before they are seen, holding what appears to be a rather complicated flute constructed from wood. They enjoy music and dancing, as well as a good tale told over a roaring fire.
Fae can be found just about anywhere in any of the Realms. Their appearance varies according to the Realm that they reside within. The fae can be rather mischievous, and love to pick on any person or creature caught unawares.
Elementals, like the fae, vary in their appearance (according to the Realm they are in). Fire and Water Elementals reside within the Realm of Summer, as do a few Wind Elementals; within the Realm of Autumn, primarily Wind and Earth Elementals are seen, as well as a few Water Elementals; and in the Realm of Winter, Wind and Water Elementals are most predominant.
They are not spotted often, and tend to have a more wild, unabridged side to them as they move about the lands. Many come in the form of a natural disaster: a storm, tornado, or rock slide are seen here and there, though no one has actually been harmed by them.
Dragons are a rare sight within the world of Avalar. Much of their existence is believed to be myth, though spottings have been mentioned - in times of immense danger or threat, or once in a great millennia, such as when new rulers of the Realms are crowned.
Mermaids are seen wherever there is a body of water for them to occupy. Though they are not necessarily dangerous, cautions are given if one decides to hold conversation with these creatures.
Dwarves, although small, and often disgruntled, are still very friendly beings. They are often spotted (and live) near mining sites - they dig up gems, gold, and the like for the Realms and for themselves.
Phoenixes are almost as rare as dragons are in Avalar. They reside and breed where the earth burns hot, and rarely migrate far from volcano locations.

Large birds-of-prey also reside within each Realm - they are not a threat to those who show them respect, and are often willing to help the Princes and Princesses when they are called upon. (Owls, Falcons, Eagles, and Hawks.)

+ R a c e s

Draconians, also called dragonmen, are humanoid beings with dragonlike features.
Elves were originally thought of as a race of divine beings (wights, vættir) endowed with magical powers, which they use both for the benefit and the injury of mankind.
Fae are generally described as human in appearance and having magical powers.
Nephilim are a race of descendants of angels and humans.
Angels (self-explanatory)
Demons (self-explanatory)

Her fight for survival had begun. The day she would forever refer to as a day of Darkness, of Shadows, had started, soon after they had held a Celebration in the Winter Realm. A Festival that was supposed to be without worry, without pain.

They had come out of nowhere. Screams echoed. Bloodshed ensued. Pain.

Loss.

The Shadow creatures morphed into being from rocks, from treasure; but the worst was when they formed from the creatures that inhabited the world of Avalar. The painful cries of Fae and Centaur sent chills up and down the Summer Princess' spine - she couldn't bear to watch it.

Any creatures that had even a sliver of darkness in their hearts were vulnerable to the forceful transformation.

The pain soon led to betrayal; creatures she had befriended, had taken care of, turned against her, tried to capture her. Upon orders from their "leader", the Shadows were to capture the Prince and Princesses, and drag them to the Shadow Realm unharmed. It had come too close for Hadyn once - she had barely managed to escape. And yet, she had not been able to find the Portal to the Shadow Realm; she hadn't known how to reach it, or where it could have been located, but she vowed she would destroy it. And whoever their "King" is.

For the time being, however, she had managed to eradicate any and all Shadow creatures that resided in her Realm.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The castle was in ruins; many of the trees supporting the roof had died, the life-force sucked from the very roots that nourished them. There were several gaps in the ceiling, while scorch-marks decorated the ballroom and the grand hall. What a disaster. Hadyn shook her head sadly, fists forming around her weapons. The centaur that had been walking with her gave her a worried look, and she sighed, exasperated.
"What could have brought this... this darkness?" One Shadow after another tended to appear in well-hidden places, and though it saddened her, she could hardly bear to trust those few left in the palace. She had seen the transformation with her own eyes, watched as an evil creature took place of someone that had once been so kind to her. She could only hope that the same fate hadn't befallen the few Portals that were sacred.
"I cannot say, milady. Not a single creature can say whether or not it was destiny, or fate, but you cannot give up hope."
The centaur placed a comforting hand on her shoulder, and she could feel the threat of tears forming in the corners of her eyes. Get a grip, Hadyn. If you show any weakness, it will make capture that much easier for those Shadows. Her tears dried, and with her jaw set, she continued into the throne room, where her parents had once reigned as King and Queen of the Summer Realm.
"Is this a test?" Her voice echoed throughout the empty room, and she scowled, punching the now-broken insignia of her kingdom.
"Of course it is, dear Princess. It is a test to see whether or not you will give in to the darkness!"
Hadyn whipped around, now face-to-face with a Shadow dragon; it's twisted form towered over her, and she barely had time to move out of the way before it's tail came crashing down on the throne.
The onslaught had been as sudden as it was unwelcome. The Shadows emerged from everywhere, everyone… Jessica had only thought to run and, when she could run no more, to keep going. Eventually she found she was on knoll in the midst of a lake, a good half-mile from the castle proper. She could see the flames leaping in the windows, the people and creatures fleeing. “This can not be happening… this cannot be…” She looked in her hands, but all she had was a pot and ladle. How had she brought along such odd things… yet she remembered that even in her fervor, struggling desperately across the water to this knoll, she had clung to them like lifelines. She looked into the pot, but the soup had sloshed out or been rinsed away by the lake. Sighing, Jessica examined her surroundings. She was alone, in her oldest clothes that she normally used for gardening, and had nowhere to go. A horrible hissing noise came from across the lake, and she squeaked and retreated into the trees that grew on the hill’s crown.
A man-shaped Shadow beast emerged from the misty trees on the lake’s far shore, holding a bloody sword and sniffing at the air. Jessica flattened herself to the ground, willing the bushes to cover her and keep her out of sight. Could that thing smell her? A sudden idea crossed her mind. Staring at the trees on the opposite shore, maybe thirty feet from her pursuer, she sent a small prayer to them to rustle, snapping small twigs and sending the scent of pine out like a rich mist. The Shadow turned towards the rustling and called back to his companions before forging into the trees. Jessica sighed in relief, then stifled a sob. Her castle was still afire, her parents missing… Galvin would know what to do in this situation, but her brother was not here to help her out… if he was even still alive. She was utterly alone.
Camping this close to the castle seemed like a bad idea. More of those Shadow beasts were likely lurking about, and smoke from a fire would surely attract attention.
Fire…
She vaguely remembered hearing about one of the Princesses of Summer, a rough and tumble girl named Haydn, who was able to wield fire… perhaps the Summer folk could help her! They were strong, and had always gotten along with the Fall Plains before. They could bring their armies and help her take back her kingdom! Positive this was the best plan of action, even if a bit half-baked, Jessica tried to remember where the nearest portal was.
After several minutes of scratching a map in the dirt and struggling to recall her geography lessons, she pinpointed a portal not far from her location, an arch near an old apple orchard. The problem was that the orchard was towards the castle instead of further away from it… she could be walking right into enemy hands.
Jessica looked into the water that had gathered in her pot’s bottom, as if it were a scrying glass of some sort that might give her the answer, then stood. She dog-paddled back across the lake like an ungainly duck and sloshed into the woods towards the castle, holding up her ladle to smack anything that might cross her path. She was fortunate to not meet any opposition; the Shadows were probably looking for her closer to the castle. She reached the orchard and could see, on the far side, the arch that marked the portal. She only had to make it through...
But the portal was flanked by two fierce-looking shadows, and she doubted her simple tree trick would make these two leave their post at all.
The dragon's tail had barely grazed her shoulder, but enough so to do damage; a searing pain ran down her shoulder, and she clenched her jaw. Damnit. She would never give in to the darkness, that much she was sure of. "I wouldn't count on it, you stupid, ugly beast," she retorted, receiving a glare from the dragon as she stood up, gripping her shoulder. "You can tell your cowardly master that if he wants to fight, he shouldn't let lesser -" The Shadow released an ear-shattering shriek and swung its taloned hand at her; it struck again, cutting through her garb and arm as she stumbled to the side.
Her parents were dead, as were her siblings. She had seen them die with her own eyes, watched as soldiers fell like dominoes to the darkness in their hearts. Was there much of a point in fighting, when she had no one to live for?
No. I can't think like that. I have to... Hadyn sat, huddled behind the ruined throne as she stared at her kingdom's symbol. Ghostly images of her parents floated in and out of her vision; she could hear the cries of her family, her friends, as they died. I have to... to try...
The dragon chuckled, low. "I can hear your thoughts, feel your doubts, Princess..." It edged closer to the throne, feeling the pulsations, though bare, of dark thoughts and feelings. It hissed, and a plume of shadows seeped from its muzzle, moving to wrap around the Summer Princess' ankles. "Why suffer to see more die, when it is easier to give in...?"
Hadyn could feel the shadows wrap around her legs, creep up to her waist as she sat there, motionless. She could feel as the darkness entered her mind, released her will to fight the Shadows, to just give up... And then, other faces appeared in her vision. The Winter Prince, the Autumn Princess... they would never have given up so easily. They would fight. And so would she.
"No." Her voice was barely audible; her eyes blazed, and she stuck her blade into the shadow, blood pouring from her leg as the Shadow dragon shrieked in pain and disbelief. "I will never give in!" A burst of flame exploded at the dragon; the flames wrapped around it, and she stepped back to avoid getting any sludge on herself.
"You WILL give in!"
A clawed hand shot out from the flames; Hadyn stumbled back to avoid it, expecting to hit the wall, but instead, she had fallen through a hidden portal. She closed her eyes as the light wrapped around her torn figure, and...
... She tumbled out of it, knocking down two very disgruntled, surprised Shadows that had been standing guard at the Portal. Hadyn blinked a few times; she could see the Autumn Princess, hiding, and as one of the Shadows moved to grab her arm, she spun around, slashed at the creature with a blade of fire, and proceeded to behead it. "Get OUT!" she yelled angrily, attacking the other guard just as swiftly and efficiently. Scorch marks decorated the pathway, and a few bushes had been lit on fire; she could hear yelling, but ignored it as she turned and walked, rather icily, towards the Autumn Princess.
"What the HELL are you doing, hiding like that?"
Jessica was stunned by the sudden arrival of the summer Princess, and by her… less than noble language. The Shadows fell and she sheepishly slipped from the bushes. The Summer Princess really shouldn't be telling her off, like some lazy commoner. She had hid to protect herself... not because she was a coward. Perhaps a little bit, but... but she had to survive! She was all that was left of the House of Otono now!
“What else is there for me to do? I am unarmed.” She held out her soup pot, frowning. “And, unlike you, I am not a warrior. I am a healer and a cook, and I just cannot… cannot possibly kill anything.” Her eyes fell on Haydn’s shoulder, and she pursed her lips. “You are injured. Give me a moment.”
She turned and cleared her mind, focusing on the plants around her. The world was a hazy green sphere around her, full of brightness, warmth, and life… though she could smell the pungent stink of darkness from the newly-dead shadows. After a few minutes she found the plant she was looking for; a small patch of weed-like comfrey. She pulled up some of the leaves and rubbed them together, drawing out the sticky inner fluids of the plant. “These will help reduce inflammation and help you heal… if you will just let me apply them, please…”
"I..." Hadyn paused, biting back her temper as the Autumn Princess explained why she had been hiding. A weary sigh escaped her lips and, sitting down in the grove, buried her face in her hands. "I don't... I don't know what to do. Everything, everyone..." She shook her head, feeling the threat of tears return as she averted her gaze to the burning castle.
"... I'm sorry for being so abrupt. I was... a centaur shapeshifted into a Shadow dragon, and it attacked me. I wasn't expecting to fall through a Portal, but perhaps it was for the best." She did her best to smile through the pain, and she flinched visibly. The wound had done more damage than she thought, not to mention the fact that she had stabbed herself in the leg to get rid of the shadows.
"I also stabbed myself, but.. it was because I..." Hadyn bit her lip, looking at Jessica. "It almost had me, but I broke free by destroying it." Moving her hand from her leg, the wound was still visibly fresh, and blood once again oozed from it.
As the fluids were applied to her wounds, Hadyn did her best not to cry out in pain; she kept her fists clenched, and let out a shaky sigh when the Autumn Princess had finished applying the salve.
"... I don't believe we've officially met, though. My name is Hadyn."
Raindrops falling on my head
For all I know the clouds are rolling in again
And if I fall through the ice
I need to know that you will lead me to the light
Prince Zephyr’s peaceful kingdom looked like something out of a nightmare. No, worse than a nightmare. Whenever he had nightmares, they usually consisted of silly things, like speaking in front of a large group of people without pants, or forgetting to study for an important test, or accidentally shooting someone's pet Snow Wolf with his arrows...
Nothing like this. What lay before him was more twisted than his innocent mind could ever conjure. Black smoke tainted the usually clear night sky and choked the air all around him. Cries could be heard from the injured, both inside his castle walls and out. White snow was stained red with blood from the attacks by the shadows. Wolves from the woods turned dark and bloodthirsty. Centaurs speared their friends. Even some in the castle had changed, their faces becoming cloudy and dark as they were possessed with the evil spirits.
But they were gone. At least, for now. Zeph and the royal Nephilim family had managed to fend them off, using their angelic gifts to help rid them. While it had still been a difficult, arduous battle, Zeph could not help but think that things would be much worse for the other kingdoms--those not blessed with the healing light that he and his family enjoyed.
-----------------------------------------
The day had started off beautifully, as the annual Light Festival opened up the portals and welcomed visitors from all the other Realms into his own. Zeph had stuffed himself on pheasant, had a few glasses of good wine, and shared some jokes with local dwarves. Candles flickered all across the land. The snow sparkled under the twinkling lights that the Air Elementals provided, and Zeph had never been happier. When the sky darkened at dusk, a great wall of swirling colors appeared in the sky, just above the castle. The Winter Lights. They only appeared once a year, and were quite a sight to see. Zeph admired them in awe, drinking up their beauty as richly as he had the wine.
As the colors faded from the sky, the first shriek was heard from the forest, and the happy day turned into the greatest tragedy that Avalar had ever seen.
The Shadows swept his land, taking over many of the creatures and people he loved. The dwarf next to Zeph, whom he had just been laughing with, contorted in agony and launched itself at the prince, attempting to strangle him. Choking back a gasp, Zeph struggled underneath the evil being. To save his own life, he had to to stab the poor creature in the back with an arrow. Rolling out from under the dying dwarf, Zeph quickly snapped his quiver onto his back, and grasped his Ice Bow, ready to fight, despite the sadness and guilt in his heart.
-----------------------------------------
After what seemed like hours of fighting, it was over. The shadows were gone, and the creatures that had survived were being healed under the skilled hands of his House. All in all, the losses were terrible, but could have been much, much worse. His parents were living, despite a large scratch on his father's arm. They had tried to minimize the deaths, and focused mainly on attacking the Shadows themselves.
The other kingdoms, though... Zeph felt his heart lurch. The other realms were not largely populated with advanced, angelic healers. They were probably dying. All those lives...the creatures, the people, the other young rulers he was aware of.
They needed his help.
He alerted his guards as to where he was going, then strode into the castle, heading straight for the chapel. Even though he had just been battling monstrous creatures, Zeph's stomach fluttered nervously. He was usually not allowed to enter the chapel, unless under extreme circumstances or special occasions. Always supervised by at least one Elder.
But the Elders were busy, and this was the most dire situation he had ever faced. It was his duty to go to the chapel, unlock the inner sanctum, and jump through one of the most protected Portals left in his kingdom.
Taking a deep breath, the prince plunged himself through the icy, stained glass archway into the Autumn Realm.
He felt himself hurtling through space and time at an unsettling pace, then was thrown, face first, through the Autumn portal, nearly crashing on top of the poor Fall Princess.
