I sort of have mixed feelings about the marketplace. I see such outragous prices sometimes and then at others I see steals. I saw a G buckle for 100 gold. I went to buy it but someone got to it before it. And today I bought a Angelic Parasol for 3.5K. I think the average is about 8K.
Good deal or Rip off?

Meh, there are always going to be people who, for instance, sell store items for prices far above their store price, but that's hardly a problem because you can find out the item's price very easily, and then buy wherever it's cheaper. I'm not a serious vender though, so I don't know a lot about, for instance, buying really cheap stuff and reselling it, or at least I don't think I do. But a Nitemare Parasol for 3.5k is a steal. Cx

Okay, but some things are good deals....
But other things are sold for outrageous prices. Greedy, greedy, greedy, greedy...it really annoys me.
100k for a chain wallet? WHA?! And didn't Winged Anklets use to be 6k? I mean, they're limited...but 100k?? Ah, no. stare

It really goes both ways.
I got my nitemare parasol for 4000 something, which I think was a pretty good deal.
Other things are just outrageous.

I always think of the Marketplace as the thrift store of Gaia. Usually, stuff is cheaper there - if not by much, sometimes - and sometimes people get greedy and sell stuff for more than it's worth. My trick is to always find out the store price or general price range (for non-store items) before I go to the Marketplace for a certain item, and then do a search for that one item, and buy/bid on the cheapest, as long as it's less than the store price.

Just gotta be smart and take a couple chances. Inflation WILL happen, there's no stopping it. So, for that, you have to get things (things meaning donation/event items) early, if you can.
For store items, that's the smart part. You have to check store prices. If you look for something one day, and it's not in the market or it's overpriced, check back another day and see that it IS there for less than the stores. 3nodding That's what I have to do in my quest. I only buy from the stores if I've looked in the market repeatedly already to no avail to buy my next item.
I personally always use the market for everything I'd ever need.

Well, this is just my opinion, but I really don't think inflation is quite "outrageous." Inflation is natural, considering that Donation Items are limited, and that, obviously to everyone, things like Minis and Devil Tails are fewer in number than, say, the more recent Parasols. So there's higher demand for a far smaller supply. It's hardly Machiavellian. Greed can't really be considered a source of the rising prizes of such items. Yeah, Winged Anklets are up to 99k right now, and I'm glad. Cx I bought mine for 52k last year. -shrug-

I'm an exchange whore and a vend whore, and proud. heart
Sam's FAQ as an Exchange/Vend whore:
Q: Why do donation items go up? Weren't they cheap like a week ago?
A: Donation items are rare. No matter what month, no matter how many were sold. There are a lot of winged anklets and nitemare scarves and all that stuff in rotation, but the price will always rise. Why? Because there are people who inflate too much, not enough, or not at all. Prices will always be rising and falling thanks to this new tread.
Winged Anklets came out in August 04, however, they are hard to sell. Why? Because most people who want them, and I know this is a harsh thing to say but its true, are newbies. People quest, they get 93K and they demand them at that price. So, we as the sellers must give in. Winged Anklets, and this is for people who want to deflate the price should be 91K to 95K.
Q: Rares and Uncommons.. I can't seem to get my hands on them. Why are they so expensive??
A: There are two reasons for this.
1) The "Jacker Ups" or the "Business People of Gaia" or any of those groups want to jack up the Nitemare Headband and other rare and uncommon items because they feel that prices should go up. This in my opinion is stupid. But they are doing it anyway and there is a war going on right now between L.A.I.D. (a Guild of people including myself who want to deflate the prices) and Jack Up (the guild of people who would like to inflate all items on Gaia).
2) Events are more rare. People don't see a headband unless they have been on more than a year. Seems to be a trend anyway.
Q: Why is the marketplace such a rip off sometimes??
A: That is a simple question. It's easy to inflate items on it. It's also a quick and easy way to get items. Also, people love to get a profit. The exchange will always be cheaper so they will buy things off the exchange and jack up the price on the market. Just be sure to be smart and careful. Look at the price on the exchange and then try to get it on the market.
If you keep that kind of stuff in mind, you're fine. And remember, most donation items will always rise up because there will always be less of them.

And while inflation is natural there is a group of Gaians who want to make the price of a JU Shirt 800K in just a few weeks. The shirt is costing anywhere from 550K to 600K as it is. This to me is wrong. neutral Miss_Liddle_Lauren Hmmm....save the parasol until a later date when it will cost more....
I think I can do that I dont think thats the best item to do that with. I think this month's donation items are.
