In the industrious city of New Haven, there is a little known yet highly visited cafe on the South end of the Rue de Croix entitled the Café Bordeaux. During the day it is a harmless little coffee and liquer shop run by a small staff of cute young women. However, once the sun goes down the door to the Backroom opens up and the gambling den comes to life. Here there are as many high rollers and big stakes as there are pretty women willing to do a lot for the right price. The operations are run by a mysterious man known by the name Monsieur Scratch whose intentions for his patrons are not as simple or "virtuous" as he leads many to believe. Only his Belles know the real truth, and to become part of the inner circle takes more than good looks and a charming personality...

▌♦▐ This is a realistic fantasy type rpg, in a setting similar to the Victorian era. While magic is not uncommon it is ▌♦▐ typically something that has to be studied and therefore is usually only seen in those wealthy enough to afford school or those who have been tutored in private.

▌♦▐ Once inside the gambling den, magic is only usable by those who pay an extra fee to the Doorsman. They will ▌♦▐ receive a temporary seal of Monsieur Scratch's personal mark that allows them to do so. All others receive a black scratch that seals their source of magic until they leave again, leaving them unable to use magic with the walls of the establishment.

▌♦▐ The only ones at this point who have authority to remove any patrons from the Cafe and/or Den are ▌♦▐
Monsieur Scratch, Jeanette, and Callista.

▌♦▐ No God modding, period. ▌♦▐

▌♦▐ You may play up to 2 characters for the time being. Preferrably either a cafe/den combination, or a patron ▌♦▐
and a staff member. Follow the profile guidelines for submission.

☲Monsieur Scratch☲

If you have to ask who or what I am, I doubt you would understand even if I told you. I am older than I appear by far, and I have been around this planet long enough to know what tempts ment the most and the price they are willing to pay for satisfaction. That is why I do what I do - I sell passion and entertainment in return for those silly little things they call 'souls' to keep me here in this "human" form. No one is the wiser and any who have dared oppose me soon find out that when a mortal faces that which he cannot comprehend...their failure is eminent.

However I also do enjoy my own game of keeping these 'belles' here with me. They are wonderful little puppets that live to do my bidding, as it were. Where would they possibly be without me to support them? No where, that's right...however I've begun to get this strange feeling about a few of them that I can only assume is what the mortals call 'enfatuation'. More like avarice as who could believe a being like me could actually have the capability of feelings towards another, let alone a mortal?

Before My Time Here, I Went By The Name: Jeanette Callafax
I've Been Around This World For: 25 years
I Have Been Apart of the Den For: 15 years
People Tend to Say That I Am: Courteous and gentile, always choosing the right things to say and do. I am loyal to the end, and often choose to sacrifice my own health and happiness for that of my fellow Belles. They are me "friends" or at the very least my responsibilities, and I would do almost anything for them.
When You Crack Through My Painted Fascade: You might have expected a girl with my medical background to grow into a gangly, frail little thing with little to be proud of as far as looks go. However, maybe it was from being by Monsieur Scratch's side for so many years but I developed into a respectable woman. I am curvy without having unneccessary weight, standing at 5'6" tall naturally, and because of these things I am one of the more popular Belles of the Den. Or perhaps the thing that attracts men is my unusual but striking golden eyes -Monsieur Scratch's "treasured feature" as he refers to them.
The Place On My Body That Reminds Me of My Sin: Right above my heart. Quite apropo as a symbol of where my disease most effected my body and the thing Monsieur Scratch has deftly stollen from me.

What Have I Traded To Scratch For My Second Chance?: My crime as it were is simply being alive. I was born with a disease that the doctors swore would take my life before I even reached the age of three. In desperation my parents called upon Monsieur Scratch for a solution and in turn he took my soul as a token of eternal servitude. At the time he had tricked my parents by stating that his only stipulation to keeping me alive was that if I lived to my tenth birthday he would come and take me away. My parents were just hoping for a few years longer than the doctors had predicted, as selfishly parents may when faced with the harsh reality that their child is destined to die. Year after year came and went and after a while they forgot about their deal and had never told me the truth. Until the evening of my tenth birthday when Monsieur Scratch arrived and he took what was "rightfully" his. I do not know what ever became of my birth parents as I have been a servant to Monsieur Scratch ever since...
My Life Before the Den?: There was no real life before the Den for me. When Monsieur Scratch came to collect me he had not yet built the Café nor had he decided on a place to settle down. He was traveling and making his collections and dealings as we went. For some reason after a while I got used to his devious demeanor and became desensitized to the evil that he did - I had still been young enough that I was still learning about how the world worked, and just at the right age to be sympathetic to the man. It took us two years to "settle down". More like he found a place with plenty of souls for the taking and corrupting. He built the Café Bordeaux within the following year and I have helped him ever since. While he mainly uses me to attract customers into the den, there have been the rare occassions for big "spenders" where it is I who is put up to the task to take from them the life force their souls grant Monsieur Scratch; I have yet to fail him once...
A Reason For Living: I live to serve Monsieur Scratch, with the promise of never having to succumb to my childhood illness and with the potential of an everlasting life if I do as he says and play the part of dutiful servant. I have known nothing but him and his "kindness" for more than half my life and I am well aware that everything I am now I owe to him and him alone.
The Cursed Life I Live: I fear the day that Monsieur Scratch looses interest in or use of me. I know too that that would mean the end of my life and the effort I have put in to pleasing my master and hoping that one day I may be worthy of actual love.
