Joey Matthews is an 11 year old boy from Mossgreen Village in Kanto. Joey comes from a long line of trainers. His uncle even challenged the Elite four, back before Joey was born. Joey has always know he would go on a pokemon journey, and has in fact been out traveling around Kanto since he turned 10. Thing is, there was a shortage of starters at the local research center, so Joey was travelling with his father's Pidgeot. His mom's Arcanine just had an egg though, so Joey came home to get his own first pokemon. Now, with a Growlithe egg in his backpack, and permission from his parents, Joey is off to explore Zatao!
