Mixed scents of burning pine and an awful resemblance to human flesh permeated through the fresh scents of rain, soil, and pollen causing Anslie to throw a hand up to her nose. An urge to bury her nose into the ground was as tempting as turning back the way she came. If the first thing that came to mind wasn't human flesh, she would have opted to do both of those things however, there hadn't been any indication of other elves, demons, or fairies in quite some time. For a human to be lurking about, that was quite rare. Perhaps he or she had been captured. By what? The elf couldn't say as she could think of no race that would hold a human captive in a forest. Hundreds of miles from the nearest human civilization at that.

With an ever growing curiosity, and a few flower petals rubbed up under her nose, Anslie continued forward looking for the source of the ungodly stench that was near to making her gag. It didn't take long for her to smell the smoke of the fire and not long after that to see its flames crackling and dancing in the distance. It appeared to her that there was a small shelter set up but no human in sight. There was definitely a human present though. The smell humans had was distinctive to their race and it was one of the worst of the beings that currently inhabited the planet.

Jumping between trees for a closer look, Anslie could see supplies scattered about in a random askew. There were no signs of other animals about so she wondered where the human had gone. The nearest stream was a few miles past the place the human had apparently settled so she made herself comfortable at the tree tops watching the sun as it moved along the sky. A few birds chatted happily on nearing branches and scurried off in search for a mate or food. Perhaps they were building a nest somewhere. Soon after, the smell became a distant memory as her nose adjusted to the scent. Still, the forest would forever be defiled by the awful stain in the air.

Have you ever been told that you snore? You probably denied it at first, didn't you? Well, you do know that snoring is a sign of a heavy sleeper, so it'd be impossible to wake yourself up with it. Especially if you've been walking for who knows how long on your way to find the perfect camping site.
But, the thing about camping is that it usually involves a fire of some sort. And fires should not be left attended by people who snore. They'll end up feeding the flames with their snorts.
Maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration, but still.
The point is, the man of the campsite -and the only person there for that matter- was taking a little nap against the trunk of your average, thick tree. The branches reached far and loomed overhead. A bunch of camping supplies had been strewn about him, an empty canteen, a sleeping bag, your usual stuff.
Well, the usual stuff you'd find in a world with very little technology, but still, it worked.

So, the man with violet hair just kept on snoozing, leaving the roaring flame which was cooking his food unattended. Seemed like a reasonable thing to do.
But, of course, if he was going to do that he could have at least set up the thing correctly. Only you can stop forest fire, kids. And Axis was one of those people that smokey the bear would beat up in the back alley. Why? It wasn't just over the fact that he made a campfire incorrectly, it was more over the fact that the fire actually began to spread, and he didn't notice until he smelled burnt boar.
"Nngh... Just give me a couple of more minutes..." He grumbled, rolling onto his side with a disgruntled groan. So, he got his minutes. But they came at the price of half of his camping supplies.
"Whuh...what's going on..." He asked himself, eyes cracking a few inches to see a bit of what was going on. "...@#$@." And this was why the guy never went camping. He had been told to come out here for a week or two, that it would be a pretty fun time, but nope. It all blew up in his face.
Starting a forest fire isn't exactly the most relaxing thing in the world, if you hadn't noticed.
How do you stop a forest fire? With water, of course. So Axis went to his canteen and wasted the whole thing trying to save the little creatures of the forest. Where was a decent river when you needed one? Why wouldn't some rain god take pity on him and start pouring water from the heavens?
Hell, even if he did get out of this forest fire, how would he get home? Something told him that his so called friends just sent him out here to go get lost and never return. Why would they have wanted him gone?

Just what was this forsaken human doing? Anslie wondered as she watched him hopping around trying to put out the fire he had carelessly started. At the rate he was going, the human was going to destroy the entire forest. Using the branches as steps, Anslie quickly descended to the forest floor landing softly on her toes. Without taking another step, her lean legs allowed her to bound almost faster than the human eye could follow to a mound of soft soil where a few mushrooms had made their home. Scooping up the soil, Anslie bounced back to the fire and began to smother the flames. Within minutes, only a smouldering scent was left to indicate where the fire had started and nearly spread.

With dirt on her hands and all over her arms, the elf turned to the human and scowled deeply with fists resting on her hips. Sure Anslie had seen humans before, even gone so far as to observe them in their cities, but, never had she seen a human quite like this one. He was taller than most she noticed, not taller than she though. And the items he carried were none she had ever seen either. Her own weapons consisted of a simple wooden bow and two daggers, made from things the Earth offered. His items were made of unnatural materials, things only the humans used. Her scowl nearly turned to a sneer as her sky blue eyes once again focused on the human.

"Why have you come here?" she demanded. Not only has she never seen a human who looked like him, she had never seen a human come this far into the forest in her time spent here. Nor had she seen or smelled any traces of any other creatures being here other than creatures of Nature and Earth. "This land you stand upon is sacred; no animals shall make their homes here now." Not until long after his scent and the scars he left upon the Earth have healed.

Well, it seemed that Axis had found himself in a very tight pinch. There was this elf lady who really didn't seem to be too happy with him, and half of his stuff was scorched worse than ants on a hot summer's day. He didn't make any sudden moves, he had known a guy who had his intestines used in a bow and arrow set.
He was a pretty nice guy, too. But what did he do exactly to end up that way? Probably do something sudden and all panicky, something that Axis would've done if he wasn't all exhausted from trying to keep himself from becoming charcoal.

"Why am I here?" He repeated the elf's question, hoping that speaking clearly would prevent any sort of misunderstanding that may or may not end up with his skull on a spoke. "Well, I just came out here to go camping, not much more, not much less. I'll leave if you don't want me here." He put his palms up as a sign of pacifism, and of course left out the part where he had gotten lost in the thick woods.

"I sincerely apologize for the fire, things kind of got out of hands and I really didn't mean any harm!"
All he'd have to do was throw himself into the arms of the court and hope for the best now. Hopefully this chick wasn't one of those murderous elves that would do some of the stabby-stabby to a guy who had even stubbed their toe on the root of a tree.

"Of course your kind is not welcome here," Anslie stated as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. Humans had no respect for Nature, for the creatures that walked the earth long before they did, or for earth itself. It was just simply disgraceful. Humans were destroyers of all things that were sacred, thinking that all was theirs for the taking. Once again, Anslie looked at the items the human was carrying. Such waste... She considered making him drop his belongings over a cliff however, that would leave the humans closer than she or the rest of her race wanted. Even if she had spent most of her life alone, as an elf, she felt obligated to spend time with other elves of her status occasionally.

Pitiful. That's how she had chosen to describe this particular human. And completely clueless. A few days was all this human would last in these woods with the little supplies he had left. With his original set of supplies, Anslie wagered he would last a week at most. A life was still a life, no matter how low or undeserving it was. Leaving this human would be equivalent to killing him with her own hand. Besides, he would probably take half the forest to the grave with him even if he were wandering around naked!

Anslie walked towards the human until they were about arms length apart and bent down a few inches, sniffing. This human had such an awful scent that her entire face scrunched up. "Have you humans not heard of bathing?" she asked. "I will lead you out of the forest myself. After you bathe. Otherwise there's no telling of the consequences..."

Well, that sure was nice of the elf. Here Axis was, being all nice and polite to the pointy eared woman, and then she went about and gave him some of the attitude!
And not to mention, she told him he smelled. Which was something that he had known for a while now. Since, he was lost in here for quite a while.
"Well, that's not really a way of going about it. Haven't you ever heard of manners?" And out came that snarkiness. He sneered over at the elf and moved himself away from the tree. It was itching his back anyway.
"I'll be glad to get myself out of this forest. I wouldn't have even showed up if I had known that people here had absolutely no manners. It's not like I just strolled into your damn house." He tossed an arm here and there.
"And I'm sure that you would smell worse than a pile of manure if you had to roll around in dirt for a couple of days, too." He yapped, and began to gather up a couple of his singed objects.
Well, hopefully his chances of ending up like Gregory weren't too great. But surely, they must've been higher than what they first were.
But of course, even looking like Axis often got you into a pit of trouble.
A pit of troubled poisionous snakes, that is.
Or a valley full of stampeding bulls, trouble.
He wasn't very lucky.

The more the human clamored on, the higher Anslie's brow rose. Clearly humans had absolutely no sense about the world around them and the creatures who lived in it! And yes, actually, he did stroll right into her home. She lived in these woods: she slept in the soft branches of the highest trees; she bathed in the babbling streams and rivers; her bare feet delighted in feeling the soft soil and mosses between her toes; taking only what she most needed from Nature and nothing more. Clearly this human needed to learn his manners and stay in the decayed lands they "claimed" as their own.

"Well, if you're so certain that you won't be killed on the way, I'll be sure to leave you be then. If you do happen to be killed though, make sure you don't leave any filthy traces." With that, she turned on her toes and jumped onto a nearby branch, higher until she was out of sight but could still clearly see the human.

Axis smiled proudly, having felt as if he told that elf off.
"Good job, Axis." He congratulated himself, "You told her what's what. Nobody'll mess with you." He took a quick stroll around the camp site to salvage whatever else would be useful to him, and stuffed them into his bag, which also looked like it had been through one or two wars.

"Getting out of here shouldn't be too tough, I'll definitely be able to get out easier than some chick who probably lives underneath a rock." He said, with a grunt as he emptied his shoes of some rocks that had gotten stuck in them.

"I'll just... head..." Now standing in the center of his once campsite, he spun around to look at where he had come from, only to find that his tracks had been hopelessly scorched in the fire.

"This way." And so, he just decided to go with his gut. Because hey, if you can't trust yourself, then who can ya trust?
Definitely not some tree lady who pranced around the forest like one some Disney princess.
"I have an excellent sense of direction, I'll be home by supper."
And, of course, he just so happened to be the exact opposite direction of home.

Sitting on a cozy niche on a branch with her ears twitching, Anslie laughed at the human as he talked to himself. Surrounding birds responded to her laugh with songs of their own, some even sitting on the branches next to her. Not only was he going North, when he really wanted to go South and slightly West, the human was also heading straight towards a long patch of earth in which many colonies of ground bees had made their homes. Any elf could spot a colony of bees from a few hundred feet away either by tracking the bee or by the humming noises they make. Anslie absolutely loved bumblebees. Also, the nearest source of water, which was more like a large brook, was about three hundred yards East. As the human started to move, Anslie followed, jumping from branch to branch, silently so that she wouldn't attract any attention.

Axis continued on his merry way, without a care in the world! The birds were singing, the sun was shining, the moss was... Mossing.
And Axis was going to be in his bed by the end of the day, he'd go back and tell his friends of his adventure.
So, while he was taking a stroll, one of those damn logs got in his way, making him just flat out face plant into the dirt.
He wasn't the most majestic of people, or graceful.
"Ugh..." He grumbled, wiping dirt from his already dirty face and continued a little more.
There was some sort of buzzing in his ear, maybe that was just his mind playing tricks on him, or the bee hive that he had just walked by, who knew?

"Oh my," Anslie said to the chattering squirrels that seemed to be watching the human along with her. "A truly regrettable thing to just have done." Rows of bees appeared from the ground like a miniature volcanic eruption of black and yellow. They were not happy little creatures in the least! Unfortunately, if the bees stung the human, they would die, and it really wouldn't be terribly fair for the bees to die just because of a senseless human. Relenting, Anslie hopped down the branches and dashed off picking up sweet flowers and leaves. When she returned to where the bees were preparing to attack, she spread them a distance away and watched as their attention was suddenly riveted towards the new sweet scents.

They made wonderful patterns on the spread of flowers and Anslie spent a few moments, sitting on a low hanging branch, just watching the fascinating little creatures. She could hear the songs they were singing and their wings humming as they celebrated the pollen and sweet nectar of the flowers. She took a deep breath to enjoy the scents that she had collected for them. It was just lovely.
