I didn't go this year but I'm wondering how the new registration locations worked out. Anyone have comments?

I attended the two previous years and did my registration first on Friday then the second year on Thursday - both in the conference hall. I felt like even with all that space and so many lines the lines moved pretty slowly.

So my first thought when I saw registration was being moved to a smaller venue was, "That will make it even worse". I'm wondering what the reality of it was.
Please quote me as I don't get back to this guild very often.

Well pre-reg seemed to work beautifully... from what I saw Thursday. From what I heard At Con registration was horrible from lack of room to have as many booths as they needed, to computer malfunctions, to not enough staff.

Thanks for the reply.
The 'not enough booths / malfunctions' seems to be a yearly occurrence.
I'm not an expert on moving people but it would be nice if they found a way to expedite it for folks who did everything they could ahead of time. I registered for Sakura and my hotel through their web site. I paid advance. I remembered my printout. Then I still had to wait in a very long line (even the second year when I showed up on Thursday afternoon) and then later wait in ANOTHER long line to get my priority wrist band for having booked my hotel through the Sakuracon site.

The con itself is fun though. I skipped this year but may go again next year.

Well if you pre-reg (like it seems you usually do) it was a lot faster. Most people said they had a 10-20min wait time at most that i heard from.

Normal reg was in a smaller place than pre-reg and farther away than pre-reg. I think over all having it split made it harder for them to have info and staff move from one to the other. I think if they got a larger place for normal reg it'd relieve a lot of stress.

But if they stay with 3day reg only then more and more pre-reg than at con reg will happen since they are really close to maxed out for attendance for the convention center.

Is that their plan now? Only full passes - no 1 day passes?
I think I saw something about that in an email but you're right - both years I went I preregistered for the con and reserved my hotel online. If I'm going to drive 100 miles to go to something I prefer to minimize the hassle.
10-20 minutes on pre-reg is pretty good. The second year I got my hotel Thursday afternoon and got my badge on Thursday. I still had to wait about an hour in line but it was better than the year before on Friday morning.

IMO the priority wrist band could be done much better - both in physically obtaining it and in trying to use it. It helped for signatures I guess which I don't happen to care about but at some of the other events (like the Trigun movie debut) staff didn't even know if it applied. This person had to ask that person who went and asked another person who hemmed and hawed and then decided yes and then made an impromptu line for the wrist band people and so on.

Still, Sakuracon is a pretty nice con. smile

This year they took away the 1 days passes. Most likely it will stay that way since the convention center is almost at cap.

Also the wrist bands are technically supposed to be for Main Events only. All events in the main events room (The room with opening and closing ceremonies) though recently for SOME guest signing it applied and some guests yo needed to go to the Q&A to get a ticket and some were free for all lines. So signing depends on what the guest wants to do more than anything. They probably had no idea because it wasn't supposed to apply with the Trigun.

Sadly I don't know what they could do to make it easier to get the bands either. They can't have split booths since they go by 1 master list and mark people off as they get them so people don't go to one then to the other to get more.
