i think its a girl but part of the dorsal fin is ripped and she is only 2in so im not 100% sure, either way it doesnt matter since its going to be the only gourami. i was planning on getting a powder blur but all the ones i saw for sale were so pale they were almost white and none of them caught my eye. then i see this little thing just watching me today at petco, i hadnt even considered a gold gourami and ill admit havent done much research on them.

so the store said she will only get to be 5in which to me is huge but should be ok since she is the only swimmy fish in my 20gal and depending on her attitude will probably continue to be my only swimmy fish.

a 20gal is going to be ok right? i usually never listen to pet store people but the girl helping me really seemed to know her stuff and made sure i had a good sized tank and also wanted to make sure i didnt have any fish that would be in trouble with a mean gourami

edit
ok im doing research now and alot of sites are saying they get to be 6in, not 5in like i was told by petco, big suprise there i guess rolleyes also im noticing some sites say you need at least a 35gal and others say a 20gal is the smallest you can get away with so long as its the only swimmy fish so i guess im ok so long as i dont get more fish

and she is so adorable, she keeps touching everything with her little feelers heart

I'm gunna guess you have a Three Spot (Gold, Blue, Opaline, and a couple others). They get about 6 inches, and are mean buggers! If she's the only fish in the tank, aggression wont be an issue lol

Theres a Care Guide around here somewhere about Gourami's. You may check it out smile

I tried a 20 long for a single Opaline (and a couple tank mates, Tetras, Guppies....), and she didn't grow much. Got her at 3 inches, and she grew maybe a 1/2 inch. Stunted the poor thing. Gave her away to a bigger tank, that had a male Opaline bought at the same time, and he was a good 3 inches bigger than she was. She grew a bit after that, but not much. I'd recommend 45 gallons or more, and only keep them as singles, unless you are prepared to have a large tank, and lots of territories set up.

Good luck with her! =D

i dont think im going to be able to upgrade her anytime soon sad ill have to keep an extra good eye on my perams and keep the water as "clean" as i can

i wanted a more aggresive fish if it was going to grow large enough to be the only swimmy fish in the tank. i feel like the meaner the fish the more it interacts with people lol

her and the dog finally discovered each other. she swam to the bottom of the tank and got right up to the glass and stowrm had her nose pressed to the tank. the gourami tried feeling her, it was so cute.

also hubby named her squid
