Springtime of Life It is a time of regeneration, after a time of slumbering, our guild has awakened from our hibernation with a vengeance to grow and become more active than before. This is springtime. The springtime of our guild, of your lives, and of the world around us. With all these thoughts of springtime, it's only natural that I would start a contest about, right?

Instructions: J.R.R. Tolkien “All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost; the old that is strong does not wither, deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, a light from the shadows shall spring; renenwed shall be blade that was broken, the crownless again shall be king.” Write a short story in response to the quote, 1500-3500 words long.
This is NOT a fanfiction contest, and all the characters and ideas of your story should be your own.
The story may be written in any genre, however it may NOT be written in a specific pre-existing world (i.e. it may be in a world with magic, but it can not be at Hogwarts). Although the quote is from J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, your story should endeavour to be new and original instead of writing something based off of his world or general story line.
Because it is spring, Easter is coming up, and all of my contests are theme related, you MUST include at least one allusion to Easter. This does not mean that you should mention that it is Easter time in your story, in fact if that's all you do, I will grade you down. You do not have to mention the word Easter, Christ, or any other biblical names in your story (though you may if you'd like to). If you have an allusion which refers to something which is not common knowledge among those who are not any Christian denomination, please include an OOC note after your story pointing out the reference. I can do the research to explain it myself, but I may miss your reference otherwise.
Your story should be written in third-person past narrative.
The setting in one of the following: a garden, farm, park, or vineyard (actually anywhere outdoors with growing things should be okay)
Stories should be submitted to me by Saturday, April 21 in size 10 font of any legible color.
Unless you indicate that you would prefer otherwise, your entry will later be anonymously posted in this thread for others to read.
New for this contest! Crew members may write responses to the prompt and be graded, however they will not be considered as entrants into the contest, and thus can not win prizes or places. Sorry, fellow crew members!

 Prizes
Hmm... Well... I looked through the items and couldn't really find any good spring items.... so...
First place: 50,000 gold
Second place: 25,000
Third place: 12,500
All entries, regardless of place will receive... something. I dunno what yet, but it'll be good! Really! Maybe... Okay! Better yet! I shall be taking suggestions on what I might be able to give out... Something nice and which you would like to receive, but which won't completely break the bank. biggrin

No, no, it's completely fine for you to post in here.
Any questions or suggestions for the honorary prize should be addressed here, and not pmed to me. Cause this way it's more open, and I don't have to repeat the answers to questions. 3nodding

For the allusion to Easter...is it acceptable for a character to say...talk about the Atonement of Christ in a discussion? Yet not have to do anything else with Easter? I get it should be during spring time...but I didn't want to go the traditional route with an Easter Egg Hunt or something...

Yup, yup! In fact I'm hoping for something a bit deeper than your average Easter egg hunt from everyone.

YAY! I'll try not to hold you to it, but I dunno how well that will succees. xD By the way, if you turn in an entry, Harx, then I'll still give you an honorary prize (whenever I figure out what it is) you just can't actually place in the prize. Just wanted to clear that up, in case you were wondering.
As another note, the contest entries are due by April 14th, but everyone is welcome to turn them in earlier. *hint hint nudge nudge*

Does it have to be action packed or can it be a simple trip to the wood sort of thing?

Yay for more entries! It's okay if its not early, Luna, that was my way of hinting that people should get started on it right now instead of the night before it's due. xD
Ryu, it does not have to be action packed, it can be about any old thing at all.
I'm really excited for these! Remember that they're due about two weeks from now!
