She'd gone out to hunt and had stumbled upon the proverbial feast.

How foolish this pair of hunters had been. Didn't they know to whom these lands belonged? If they had and decided to trespass regardless they were more crazy then...well...her. 'Not even close~' the little voice in the back of her mind chimed.

From the first whiff of them she'd been on their trail, slinking through the shadows and stalking their every move. The adrenaline had kicked in shortly after and her mind had cleared, the voices temporary silenced by an even greater need. The need to see these humans bleed. Once they made camp and settled in for the night, that's exactly what she would do. She kept close to the group, hiding in shadows and staying downwind to avoid early detection, but the slaves the humans had brought with them knew. They couldn't see her or pick up her scent, but they were on edge. The anxious eyes of one of the kage scanned her location and she stilled. Their eyes had met for the briefest of moment and the only thought that flickered through her mind was that he was too far away to silence in time.

The kage made not a sound, in fact there hadn't even been a hint of fear or recognition in those eyes. She was either overestimating the abilities of these mutts, or paranoid...both points were equally plausible.

The group had made camp by the time the moon was high in the sky. She should've waited til they went to sleep. She could've caught the watchman by surprise, torn his throat out, and killed his companion in his sleep while their precious little pets looked on. However there was a pressure building within, a unique mixture of adrenaline and blood lust, and she could feel her own blood pounding in her ears and behind her eyes. They were barely done setting up camp by the time she snapped.

She caught the first man crouched over his belongings, and barreled down on him swiftly, a feral mess of muscles and claws and teeth. Her teeth found their way quickly around the back of the man's neck as he was caught unaware and she continued with the pressure until she heard the satisfying crunch. The man was dead before his body hit the floor.

The moment she took to savor the taste of blood and the accompanied rush was cut short however as a telltale 'whhhiiip' reached her ears and a crossbow quarrel nearly took her ear off. She jerked her head at the sound and the crossbow bolt had clanked off of one of her horns instead, jarring her momentarily. Stunned for the moment, she was unprepared as the man lined up another shot.

"Back to hell with you, demon-spawn!" The man hissed in her direction before glaring down the sight of his weapon, only for his own kage to suddenly turn on him and tear his leg out from under him. The bow still went off in the man's panic, the quarrel flying wide off into the bushes. She recovered in time to watch the smaller neverlin wrestle his former master into the ground. He didn't have her size or strength, but the element of surprise was on his side and enough to finish the job. He finally managed to pin the man and sink his own fangs around the hunter's throat. She continued to watch in equal parts amusement and mild fascination as the neverlin pulled away and the man still struggled to gasp for breath.

This one, she judged, was not strong enough to walk amongst her brothers and sisters, but he was no slave. Feeling unusually generous she would allow him to live, to live out whatever sad and pathetic life he could before something bigger and better got to him. She offered him only a blood stained grin as he begun to drag his former slaver off, so he could enjoy his meal in peace.

With that done she quickly turned her attentions to the only remaining living thing in the clearing. The other kage had chosen to do nothing, not run, nor fight for her freedom. Had the humans beaten every bit of instincts out of this one? Orlaith closed the distance between them and got up close, her leering face mere inches from the other female's.

"Spinelessss!" She hissed at the other, but was completely unprepared for when the smaller kage raked a set of claws across the right side of her face. She recoiled, yowling at the stinging pain that nearly took out her eye before angrily whipping around to face the other kage. The neverlin tried the same old move, only this time Orlaith pulled back momentarily to avoid it before seizing the other's arm in her mouth and pulling back with all her might. The smaller kage shrieked and the hellion began to thrash, whipping her prey around like a rag doll before ultimately sending her flying into the nearby tree. She fell to the ground without a sound. She wouldn't be getting back up.

"Useless, useless, USELESS!" She continued to hiss, her words slurred and nearly incomprehensible as she flopped down where she was and pawed at the damaged side of her face. The pain wasn't the problem so much as the blood dripping down down the right side of her face like a mask, and more importantly into her eye. All the while she continued to snarl and curse to nothing but the open air. "Why are they so useless, Lai?! They are not worthless like those stupid humans. They could be oh so useful, yet they choose to be useless. You mix useful and worthless and you get useless. Did you know that, Lai? Kage tainted by humans are of no use~ They're all such pitiful, spineless, little cowards~ Like master, like slave~ We should just make them all disappear~"

Slowly but surely she began to calm throughout her rant, until it ended in almost a sing-song tone of voice. She took to licking the blood off her claws and by the time she was finished it was as if the whole psychotic little episode hadn't even taken place. In this more stable state of mind she'd realized she'd made a mistake. Humans weren't totally worthless. They had one redeeming quality.

She glanced over at the corpse sprawled out beside her.

She should probably eat her dinner before it got cold.

He had the scent of blood on all of his noses long before he was even nearby the massacre.

Marrowgar stalked the forests day and night, madly driven across the territory of the Brood in search of whatever didn't belong. Cold dripped from his body, killing grass where he stepped and chilling those that drew too near. His wings creaked and cracked in the night as he hunted, padding the same path on the outskirts of the lands.

Sometimes he was lucky! Sometimes the humans drew dangerously close to their lair, with their bows and tiny swords. Sometimes Marrowgar bellowed in glee; they even brought their Kage pets along. Most were too frozen in fear at the three-headed monster that was thundering towards them to run, but those that fled were so worth it! The scent of their terror on the winds, their desperate cries into the wilds...

Often the cerberus didn't remember what he had managed to kill, but it didn't matter. Protect, Neltharion had told him, and protect he had. His mind was too ravaged and too busy screaming at itself to understand why, but the aspect of their brood felt strong to him, and didn't smell like a meal. Occasionally one of the weaker ones did though. He liked those. He would be chastised for the kill, but he was often too engrossed in his meal to hear it.

Marrowgar dug his claws deep into the soft loam beneath him, all ears at attention as he listened. Humans. Kage. Blood. Death. He heart skipped a beat and picked up pulse as he bolted forth, dirt flying behind him as he sped towards the source. How had he missed them earlier?

The camp came suddenly in the darkness and he ground to a halt, each head searching for what he could smell. His tail lashed back and forth, snapping against a sapling and felling the tree where it had stood. Suddenly a more familiar scent hit his nose, one of the brood. He stalked between the fallen tents and the human things scattered about and found her munching contentedly on her meal. Blast. She had beaten him to it.

"Orrrrlaaiith," he hissed in greeting, heads cocking to the side in interest. He couldn't form many other words together with the scent of blood thick in the air, so he left it at that. One of his other consciousnesses screamed at him that she should be his next meal, but he silenced it. She was friend, not foe, and Neltharion would be sorely displeased with him if he... dismantled her.

His eyes glanced about to the few strewn corpses. "Yourrrsss?" he slurred, bones clacking as he tucked his wings in and out.

She could feel his presence before any of her other senses could hope pick up a trace. It was the same thing that had alerted the other kage to her presence earlier, the feeling that something bigger and possibly more dangerous was in the area...lurking and waiting just out of view. She was unconcerned, but it sent a shiver down her spine regardless. Or maybe that was due to the sudden drop in temperature. That was what clued her in on exactly who was in the area. Everyone in the brood had an aura about them; power, anger, blood lust, killing intent. It was the proverbial smorgasbord of psychosis. Not all of them, however, carried the chill of winter with them wherever they went. No...that was exclusive to the resident cerberus amongst them.

Lo and behold moments later she could hear his approach; the heavy footfalls, the crunch of frozen grass, and the utter destruction of anything that dared to stand between the larger kage and his destination. She payed the sounds and impending cerberus little heed, and turned to tear another limb off the corpse. That's how her broodmate found her, sprawled out contently in pool of human blood and cracking open bones. It was her dessert.

"Marrrrow~" She all but cooed at the looming kage. For the briefest of moments she pondered if he would taste as good as his namesake. It would have to remain just a passing thought however. Neltharion had told her to behave herself, so behave she would. She liked the aspect as well as she ever liked anyone. He wasn't prey, and he wasn't a foe; he was power, and she wanted that power as an ally if nothing else. She would make nice if she had to. It wasn't too bad being amongst her own kin and like-minded individuals, even if the there was an occasional volatile confrontation.

Those were actually kind of fun.

"Marrow, marrow, marrow," she all but cooed and crackled again before dropping her voice back into it's more grating tone. Turning her attention back to the kage at hand, her head swiveled as she answered the proposed question, unsure of which set of eyes to meet as she did so. It would be hard to determine if she was just repeating herself on whim, or greeting all three heads separately. "You've gone and miiisssed all the fun." She cackled loudly, her face contorting into a toothy, bloodstained grin. The corpse she'd been working on was nothing but scraps, and she'd be damned if she'd let him have the one by the tree. "Miiiine~" Oh no, she was gonna relish rending that one limb from limb. Maybe she'd snap the legs and pull the backbone out first and start from there. It would be quite fitting for such a spineless creature.

She shook herself from her daydreaming and returned her focus to Marrowgar. She eased herself up onto her feet and stretched languidly before sidling up close to her broodmate. The aura of cold might have dissuaded others from venturing too close, but Orlaith found the chill almost soothing especially after her little blood bath. It almost seemed to bring her some clarity, and she eased in even closer, as if she were about to reveal some hidden secret.

"You miiight find yourssselfff sssomethiiing of iiinteressst beyond thossse bussshesss." She rasped, a more subdued, knowing grin on her features. The same generosity that had spared the last neverlin to feast upon his old master had just thrown him to the wolves...or cerberus in this case. It wouldn't equate to much more than a snack for the larger kage if he so choosed, but he deserved a bite of something after storming all the way out here. "Unlessss of courssse, you came ooout this way to sssee litttle ol' me?"

Something in one of Marrowgar's three hearts defrosted a teeny bit at Orlaith's cooing words. She was not food. Her offer of a meal, however, if he merely stalked past those bushes was more than enticing. One head leaned out as far as it could to try to peek at her most gracious gift. A set of ears swiveled around and pinpointed rustling just out of reach. "Feed," he rumbled. The ground vibrated beneath him.

It was time.

He lunged forward towards the noise, the scent of blood driving him. The bushes collapsed beneath his weight, crumbling as a surge of cold enveloped them. A tree cracked as the temperature in the area dropped in his fit of violence. He did not immediately see the meal in question, but his one in-control head spotted a dragged trail of blood and swiftly set on it. A bellow came from his throat that shook the earth.

As he overcame the much smaller kage he leapt with full force. They were too frozen in fear to turn and run, a shame! The thing let out a screech as he collided, a sickening crack sounding. One leg stuck out at an odd angle, the bone breaking the surface. The screams were lost upon him as his paws crushed the kage beneath him, one head taking action and ripping the throat from his quarry. Warm blood sprayed across him. His shivered in delight.

Marrowgar dropped the body where he had killed it, noses sniffing the ground in search of that other scent. With a grunt he pushed back some bushes and grabbed it by the boot. The boot was not tasty. The monster dragged it out to where his other prey lay and sat next to them expectantly. Would they rise up one more time? He waited with the utmost patience for a few moments before laying himself alongside the bodies, one head getting right into it and ripping chunks of flesh away from his tiny meal.

"Feeeed," he rumbled again from a mouth that was not coated in blood. His eyes were glazed over as he went about his task, completely engrossed.
