Initially I was going to record my first playthrough through Tera's starting zone, however the game exited, leaving me with nothing to record. After several attempts, I finally gave up, so here is my overview of Tera's starting zone.
Let me start off by saying that an MMO has to capture my attention in the starting zone. That's usually where all of the magic, wonder, and fascination begins. I'll use World of Warcraft for example. When you roll a character in WoW, you get this sense of purpose and that the world is so big and there are just so many things to do and discover.
Now let's compare that to Tera. I rolled a character. I did a handful of, "go talk to that guy over there," quests, learned how to run and jump at the same time, and killed some mobs. Sound boring, because they actually expect you to pay for it! Yes, Tera does have a sub fee.
I was annoyed by several things. Besides the wonky controls, I'm pretty sure all of the races start off on the beach, in the same starting area. It would be a sad day in Azeroth if all of the Horde had only one starting zone. There also wasn't an introductory cutscene after I hit 'Play.' I know the game intro cutscene explained who we were and why we were there, but I was expecting another cutscene after I created my character.
Another thing I disliked was that you can body block in Tera. What is body blocking? Simply put, two people cannot occupy the same space. Yes, that means, like in real life, you cannot stand exactly where I'm standing. Having played WoW for so long, this kind of bothers me.
All the above being said, Tera does have some good things about it. For starters, it has better graphics than WoW. Tera is an action MMO, which offers another genre in the MMO market. You also have the ability to use a controller if you so desire, and finally, you can jump!
From my experience thus far, I know I won't be purchasing Tera when it's released in May, but I am looking forward to the Guild Wars 2 beta on April 27-29.
I will be posting a video soon of the gameplay footage I was able to record.

Some gameplay footage of the prologue in Tera. Sorry there's no sound. I had so many problems between recording and Tera just exiting the program. I might have forgotten to turn the sound back on. Prologue Part 1 Prologue Part 2 Be sure to check back next week as I post some gameplay from the Guild Wars 2 beta, as I finally get my hands on that!
