A small shop lined with early models of bending technology, priceless pottery, and other such fine items. There is a single small counter, as well as a stair-case leading up to the residential quarters of the owner, Old Man Gishi.

Fang made his way through the streets, taking in the sights and sounds around him. "So I tolds him, I says, I'm part of the triple threat triad. You don' mess with us!" His attention was easily caught by the nasally voice to his left. His eyes narrowed, and he immediately altered his path. "So your part of the triad huh?" He asked pleasantly, a small smile on his face. "Yeah, you got something to say?"

"I just wanted to have a clean conscious for when I did this!" Fang delivered a flaming right hook into the mans face, sending him flying into the stone wall in a dead faint. His friend stood dumbfounded, then turned in indignation. "You're gonna regret that!" He said in a shaking voice, delivering a volley of earthen rocks at Fang. Ducking and weaving just like in the arena, none of the attacks could land. Fang dodged, always traveling forward until he was right next to the man. He grabbed the triad members shirt, lifting him into the air. "Tell your boss Fai Zhang doesn't die so easy" He growled, giving the man his late fathers name. The triad bastards were the ones who had stolen his family. Call it a vendetta, but he wanted to steal their empire. Fang punched the man for good measure, sending a small splatter of blood across his face. "I will! I will!" Satisfied, Fang dropped the man and continued on his way to the shop.

----------

He stood outside the green grass antique shop, smile falling back into place as if nothing had happened. Pushing the door open, a small 'ding' resonated throughout the shop. "Hello?" Fang called, unaware he still had a small amount of blood on his face.

Kas was routinely going through stock-pages, trying to distract herself. Sure, it was her day off, but she needed something to do so her mind wouldn't explode. "Let's see, we've got six Nomad Vases, that Northern Water Tribe painting... And that's it! It's all checked in, Gishi!" the young firebender exclaimed, slamming the book shut. Rather than the oriental dress she'd been wearing earlier, the girl was now clad in a white, knee-length summer dress, along with matching white cap, boots, and a not-so matching red sash that somehow accented the outfit.

"That's all well and good, Kasai, but what's got you in such a rut that you're working here on your day off?" the old main asked, raising a brow. "Is it a boy? Or is it... your mother again?"

Kas turned red, and refused to meet the man's gaze. "A bit of both. Mostly the first one," she admitted, laughing nervously.

Just then, Fang walked in, causing the door-bell to chime. He even said hello, but Kas was too lost in thought to notice. "Want to talk about it?" Gishi goaded, raising a hand to greet the newcomer.

"Well, he's about your height, has really awesome hair, a nice face, and... well, more than anything, he just clicks. He's funny, nice, and a pro-bender to boot! He's almost too - OH HI YOU'RE STANDING RIGHT THERE!" she exclaimed, taking notice of her friend. Kas's face flushed bright red, and she just stood there babbling in attempts to regain her senses.

"I think she's trying to say hello," Gishi playfully interjected, chuckling in amusement.

"Thank you, Gishi. So WHEN were you going to tell me that he was heeeeeeere!? This is so embarrassing!" she whined, torn between sobbing and strangling her employer. "Can we... just pretend this didn't happen?"

Trying to hide a smile, Fang leaned against the counter, laughing at Gishi's comment. He noticed a small red line across his face from his reflection, and quickly wiped his sleeve across his face. "No, no, go on. This guy sounds absolutely dreamy. I'm starting to get jealous." He pushed his bangs out of his eyes, a playful spark dancing across his face.

"You better watch out though, the pretty ones are always trouble. If he gets outta line, come get me. I'll pound his face in." He said in a conspiratorial tone.

Kas tried to be a good sport about it all, but the mockery was a bit much. She closed her eyes, trying to remain calm, and clenched her right hand into a fist, slowly raising it in a threatening gesture. "I have half a mind to do so myself," she retorted sharply, breathing steadily so as to keep her cool.

"Now now, Kasai. I'm too old to be bending the Earth into graves. You'll have to find someone else to help you with that," Gishi quirked, his lips curling into a sly smirk.

"Well then, I guess the trusty dusty shovel will do," Kas playfully lamented. The man was kind, and his sense of humor was sharp, even in his old age- that much the girl had to admit.

"Now, where are my manners? My name is Gishi Furo, and I'm the humble owner of this shop. Now, I must insist upon a tour! There is something you simply MUST see!" he exclaimed, scurrying out from behind the desk.

"Gishi, this is hardly the time for this! We have to head out to his pro-bending!" Kas protested, despite knowing there was more than enough time. Suddenly, she wished she'd selected a different meeting place.

"Nonsense! Unlike my greedy competitors, I understand that time is not money, but quality of time!"

This would be a longer visit than Kas had hoped.

"Point taken." Fang said, holding his hands up in the air. "Don't tease the firebender. I really would hate to miss practice because I insulted a pretty girl.... And said pretty girl kicked my a**." He said, trying to ease the tension. "I'd never live that one down...twice." He muttered the last part under his breathe, not wanting to relieve said memory at the moment.

"Fang Zhang." He said in return to the old man's introduction. Fang instantly realized his slip up, the man might be old enough to remember the time before the triad gang. Then again, there had to be more than one Zhang family in the city. He quickly whispered to Kas, "Don't worry, it can't take that long, can it?"

Kas raised a hand, as if about to protest, but instead sighed and relented. The young woman instead relegated herself to leaning on the desk in an unamused, almost pouting, expression. When the men were out of ear-shot, Kas, glanced out the window and muttered. "Well, at least Fang is playing it cool, I guess."

As Gishi led the way, he shot a quick glance back to the young man and smiled. "I have to warn you that I've never seen her this happy before. Kasai is so out-going she normally pushes people away," the elderly man began. "Even from a young age, she has always been rather lonely. Her grandfather is my best friend, and has told me a great deal about her. You should know that Kasai has a deep hole in her heart left by someone irreplaceable- she will try to fill that void with you and with dancing."

At this, Gishi stopped at a small vault, and quickly began to turn the combination lock. Upon opening it, he removed a simple mirror. "Now isn't this a nice mirror!?" he exclaimed with the most cheesy smile possible. "I want you to look into it." The older man's tone was more serious now. "I want you to look at yourself, Mr. Zhang. Look into your own eyes, and do not look away. Only if you can look into your past without flinching can you step into the future to live your dreams."

Fang found himself having to re-evaluate his opinion on Kas as he listened to Gishi speak. He had thought her a care-free girl. Another pretty face with a large personality. Now, he realized that her happiness might just be a mask. A facade to convince the world that she was ok. He was like her in many ways, missing something fundamental in their lives. They both had something missing. Kas found an outlet through dance, and Fang through pro-bending. His interest in the girl started to rise. She was a puzzle, a challenge, and he wasn't good at backing down from challenges.

As they walked into the back room Gishi began showing off a mirror as if it were some magical artifact. He raised an eyebrow, looking at the mirror with speculation. "Alright." Fang said with a sigh, taking the mirror to humor the old man. At first his amber eyes were the only thing looking back at him. Then, images and colors began to swirl, blending into a scene from his past.

"Stay here." His mother's red painted lips pleaded as she tucked a young Fang into the crawlspace. "And don't make a sound." With that, the world faded into darkness. The next scene played as the young boy crawled out several minutes later. He wandered into the living room, crying for his mother. Their once perfect house resembled a battlefield. The furniture was burned to a crisp, water soaked the floor mixing with blood, and one wall was completely destroyed. In the street lay two figures that were terrifyingly familiar.

Fang was now 16 in the mirror and fighting in one of his first pro-bending matches. "What's this folks?" He could hear the announcer say, "Zhang has toppled Dao, the earthbending giant goes down! But wait a minute, Zhang has crossed over the line? The refs are calling a penalty but Zhang just keeps advancing!" The announcer paused as Fang began to deliver a series of illegal blows to the downed earthbender. The man had been a triple threat triad gang member. Fang remembered this moment well. It was why he had been banned from competing fully for 5 years
.

The rest of his life relieved itself in the small mirror. His anger and bitterness. Ruthless street justice as he hunted down triad members and delivered his own punishment. His hand tightened around the glass mirror, but he stared intently until it was all over. "That's not the person I want to be..." He whispered, closing his eyes once it was all over. "That's a stranger." He held the mirror back to Gishi, hoping the man hadn't seen the images he had witnessed.

Gishi looked on in wonder as Fang gazed upon the mirror. The boy was lost in the world of his memories, and he dared not interfere. He was glad to hear the boy's sentiments when he had finished, however, and gladly took the mirror back. "This is a cursed mirror that shows the most painful moments in a person's life. What you saw was meant for you and for you alone. You don't have to tell me anything. I will give you a warning, however," the old man began, locking the mirror back in the safe.

"Beware the woman with a familiar face. Her mind is twisted with grief and rage, and she is not to be trusted. She may be able to yet feign kindness, but her heart is warped beyond recognition." With that, Gishi relinquished, and began to make his way back up front. "I believe we've let Kasai wait long enough. You have some pro-bending to get to, don't you?" Leaving no time for questions, he hastened to a speed that would suggest he was in much better shape than he let on.

Meanwhile, back up front, Kas was rummaging through a a small pamphlet-like object. It was lined with a variety of pressed flowers, and exuded a variety of pleasant scents. Hearing Gishi's loud foot-steps, however, she quickly put it away, hiding it neatly in her bag. "So, how was the tour?" she asked, feigning interest.

"Very enjoyable! Fang has quite the sense of appreciation for old art! I must say I was impressed!" Gishi lied, smiling that same cheesy smile.

Kas's eyes widened and she tilted her head in surprise, signaling she had bought the lie. "Well, you're just full of surprises, Mr. Pro-Bender!" Clueless as always, it seemed.

Gishi then leaned over to Fang's shoulder, with a hand placed over his mouth so that Kas would not hear. "She's very gullible. Don't abuse it, as amusing as it can be," he whispered.

"Hey! What are you telling him!?" Kas demanded, fearful of further embarassment.

"I said, 'Wow! She looks really lovely in that outfit! Don't you think so, Fang?'" Gishi lied again, nudging the boy with his elbow and repeatedly raising his eye-brows in a really corny manner.

"Gishi!" Kas fumed, her face turning blood red with embarrassment. True enough, she had picked this outfit just for the occasion, but Gishi was practically calling her out on that, and she just wanted to bury herself back in the stock books.

Fang's mind was still reeling from the events that had happened, he wasn't quite sure what Gishi had meant. 'Beware the woman with a familiar face...' what did that mean? He had underestimated the old man once with the mirror, he would take this warning to heart. It was obvious Gishi was more than he seemed.

He cleared his throat when he heard Gishi speak. He had been zoning out. "a lovely dress for a lovely girl." He agreed whole-heartedly, hoping the fiery girl wouldn't get even more upset at his agreement. He really hadn't taken the time to look her over before this. She was beautiful. Black ebony hair complimented her green eyes. His own eyes traveled down her body, as he was openly gawking. It was really as if he were seeing her in a new light. Now feeling awkward for his outright appreciation of her figure, he quickly looked away hoping she hadn't noticed.

"How 'bout we head to the arena now? I can introduce you to the guys, and maybe you can show me those moves you were talking about." Fang asked casually, walking towards the entrance. "Oh, and Gishi... It really was a eye opening tour. Thank you." He was still troubled by the reflection of himself he had seen in the mirror, but he would have to mull it over in his free time. In the mean time, he had a cute lady to impress.

Kas blushed even more wildly than before, turning almost as red as her sash. This prompted a slight chuckle from Gishi, but he quickly cleared his throat and returned to Kasai's side behind the counter. The young woman took notice of Fang's... observations, and tried to meet his eyes, but right as she did, he looked away, prompting a light-hearted smile from him. Kas took a strange comfort in knowing she wasn't the only one feeling embarrassed. Before she could say anything though, Gishi began to make his best attempts at a fake cough- which still wasn't very convincing. Kas glared in disdain, and the color in her face returned to normal.

"Sorry. It was too quiet," Gishi explained, offering that same goofy grin.

"Oh, am I boring you then?" Kas now had a murderous look upon her face, and she conjured a tiny flame between her hands.

"Now now Kasai! Is that any way to treat a frail old man?" Gishi curled his lip outward to make a puppy-pout.

"Please, you're as frail as the earth you bend, geezer," Kasai retorted, wrapping her arms around the man's neck and rubbing her knuckles fiercely along his scalp for what could only be a somewhat unpleasant nuggy.

"Owowowowow uncle-uncle-uncle!" Gishi wailed, flailing his arms helplessly about. Kasai's arms retreated, and Gishi breathed a sigh of relief. "If you treat me like this, I can only imagine the things you'll do to poor Fang here."

Kas ignored the elderly man, and instead of humoring him further, stepped around to the other side of the counter, taking her place beside fang- but not before shooting one last glare to the elderly man, who (wisely) ducked beneath the counter. "Don't mind him. You don't have anything to worry about so long as you keep yourself in check, pretty-boy," she teased, winking at him and playfully running her pointer finger up along his neck to his chin, as if to make an empty threat. With that said, she twirled around him in a dancing motion to the door, and kindly held it open for him. Sure, it was gentlemanly for a guy to hold the door for a girl, but she didn't really buy into all that.

"I'm surprised he's still alive." Fang said with a laugh as they walked outside. "For that matter I'm wondering how I'm gonna survive. Well life wouldn't be fun if you're not living in a constant state of fear." He joked, not seeming the least bit afraid. In fact, he was strangely looking forward to spending time with Kas. Even more interested in showing off to her.

"Fai the Phoenix still lives? Surprising, I did kill him after all" A gruff voice snickered from near the shop. Fang spun around, pulling Kas behind him. He eyes shifted to take in the the group of men that had gathered outside the shop. There were about twenty of them. Fang clinched his fists, flames exploding to surround them. "Kas, go inside the shop, I'll handle this." He doubted she would listen to him though. Even more he doubted he could take on this many benders at once.

"Ooh, quite a cutie you got there boy. I don't know boys, I think we need a new dancer for our shop." The man said giving Kas a once over. A few whistles and cat calls came from the group. "She's got nothing to do with this!" Fang yelled, sending a few blasts of fire into the crowd. It was quickly diffused by fire, earth, and water. Great, it was a mixed bender group.

Quickly following behind Fang, Kasai made no attempts to hide her elation at being away from Gishi. She was looking forward to the pro-bending practice later, as well as showing Fang her style of fire-bending- a unique combination of traditional bending and her dance movements. The girl doubted he'd seen anything like that, and was sure at the very least that it would give him a few things to test out in the arena.

Unfortunately, it seemed like that would have to wait. Thugs- about twenty of them. "Fai the Phoenix still lives? Surprising- I did kill him after all," came the words of a man who she presumed to be their leader.

"Is it honestly that surprising that a Phoenix would be alive? They have a habit of rising from the ashes," she hissed in retort, scowling at the man. Hatred swelled up within her, but before she could say anything more, she found herself gasping as Fang rotated her behind him. Before he even uttered his next words, however, Kas had already made up her mind to stay by his side. She refused to be a helpless damsel and stand by!

As Fang launched his own salvo of blasts, Kas whirled around him to his left, leaped into the air, and, demonstrating great acrobatic skill, whirled about, finally crashing down with a shockwave of fire. Not unlike Fang's assault though, her's proved to be in vain, as it was quickly stopped with the combined elements of the other benders. Regardless, she showed no signs of wavering resolve. The girl was determined to not only hold her own, but to demonstrate that Fang was not the only threat. Sure, he was the one they wanted- but if they wanted him, she would see to it that they took him from her cold, dead arms- a sentiment she was sure they would, unfortunately, have no qualms with.

She looked over their foes, carefully watching for any signs of an assault, when she picked up the subtle movements of a waterbender. The second he moved to attack, Kas retaliated with a jolt of lightning, which, when conducted by the water, gave the man quite the shock- very literally. The man fell to the ground, twitching, and the others watched in anger. "Make no mistake- I may be a dancer, but don't confuse my passion for weakness. I'm not some damsel who needs protection. Underestimate me, and I will floor each and every one of you," she warned, glaring fiercely at the bunch. None of them so much as flinched, but Kas was certain none of them would make the same mistake again- for better or worse. Probably for worse...

"Kitty's got claws, watch out boys. The man said in a smooth voice, pulling a cigar from his jacket pocket. He leaned over, a firebender flicking a flame into existence. The man took a long drag, a smirk pulling at the edges of his mouth. He smoothed his brown hair back, looking up at the two firebenders. "You know where to bring them when your done." He said, turning an walking away.

"Yuan! You coward!' Fang screamed as he ran after the man. A wall of rock spiraled out of the ground, but Fang used it as a ledge, launching himself into the crowd. His fists moved in a blinding flash of fire and and punches. His fist collided with a waterbender's face, burning the mans mustache and sending him spiraling into one of his friends. Fang kicked backwards, not stopping to see who he hit as he turned to face the next man. His moves were wild and primal, fire bursting into existence with a fierce heat. His emotions were controlling his fire which was almost blue at the moment, sending unstable blasts of raw energy into the crowd.

Fang looked like a wild animal as he fought. His face was furrowed into a scowl as he exchanged blows with a waterbender. From somewhere in the back, an earthbender sent a rock hurtling at Fang's head. He never saw it coming. The rock connected with a sick thud, and Fang stumbled forward. His eyes lowered, and he fell to his knees. Looking up, he saw Kas, and attempted to stand. One of the gang members took care of that with a swift downward kick, and Fang was out. Kas was now left alone with thirteen benders.

Kasai played a masterful defensive game as the gang launched their attacks. She gracefully danced around what had become a battlefield, weaving under the waterbender's icy assaults, leaping over waves of earth, and redirecting fire back at the conjurers. However, she could find no further openings thanks to their sheer numbers. As Fang subdued a few, however, the men grew frantic and began to make more mistakes. So too, however, did Fang. The boy grew feral, and Kasai no longer saw a face she recognized. Gone were Fang's kind, jubilant eyes and warm smile. In their stead were the eyes of a demon brimming with a hellish rage.

An enemy earthbender took this as their cue, subduing the boy with a blow to the head. Kas whirled around just in time to see the assault. An ear-wrenching shriek of terror escaped her, and she bolted to his side. For a moment, he attempted to rise, and his eyes met hers. As the man dropped his heel upon the boy's back, she saw his eyes go blank. As she rushed at the man, adrenaline coursed through her at a speed with which she was unfamiliar. Rage fueled her, and the girl leaped into the air, launching a fierce blast of white flame. The man attempted to block with a wall of earth, but such was the intensity of the heat that neither the wall nor the man held up.

The earthbender fell dead where he'd stood, and for a moment, the others hesitated to approach her. Each of them was too stunned to dare approach her. However, Kas made the mistake of showing weakness. With Fang's assailant gone, the girl dropped to her knees beside him. As tears flooded her eyes, Kasai ran her hands through the boy's smooth hair, terrified to find massive amounts of blood dripping from his wound. She feared that he may already be dead. The thugs seized the opportunity to rush the girl. With ease, they forced her to the ground and bound her. Despite her prowess in bending, she wasn't anywhere near physically strong enough to retaliate against the men. "Gishi!" she howled for help, only for the men to forcefully gag her.

From the shop burst the elderly man who, upon seeing Kasai, immediately rent the earth asunder, attempting to stop the men. However, their waterbenders and firebenders quickly co-operated in creating a haze to escape into while their Earthbenders counter-acted Gishi. Within seconds, Kas was easily toted away by one of the men. Her greatest fear, however, was not of being kidnapped, but of Fang's possible demise. Even as she was carried to some unknown place, her only concerns were for his safety. Alive or not, Fang would certainly be taken to their base as proof to their boss. The girl's answer would inevitably come soon.
