Salik was born to a working class family on the planet Furia, a planet with as much defiant culture as the Echani or the Mandalorians. His father was a military man, his mother a simple waitress at the local cantina. This left little time for little Salik to be tought, loved, and cared for by his parents. Yet he was never without eyes watching him grow, instructing him and allowing him to develop. This man taught Salik the Furian ways of movement, mentality, defiance, and all the cultural things that he should learn as a growing kid; the most important being the survival skills one needed to have to last more than a few hours on an aggressive planet, were the animals in the day light were territorial, the animals at night were stalking predators, and one didn’t dare be out at twilight while both sets of predators were out and about.
Salik learned to call him Kashish, a true mentor and one of the very few friends he could remember about his early years. Everywhere he went, it seemed Kashish commanded the respect of everybody in the room. Its like the trusted him, but on a much deeper, personal level. The fateful day, that started like every other day with his parents being gone that Kashish asked the now 7 year old bow if he would like to learn the ways of the Force. Absolutely enthralled, the kid of course asked what the Force was. After the long and length explanation, Kashish had told Salik that he was special, what was called “force sensitive.” He had the ability to reach out, touch, feel, and almost become this flow with the proper training and mentality. Kashish then revealed that he was a Jedi Watchmen of this sector, and had been scouting Salik ever since he was born. Deciding to undertake this journey, the kid Salik set away from his home for the temple on Coruscant were he would be properly trained in the Jedi arts.
When at the temple, his training went swell. He passed through all the early trials and lessons, and finally around the age of 10 he was chosen to be a padawan learner to none other than Kashish. Excited and thrilled to be back with his friend and now Master, the two were sent off back to Kashish’s post on Furai, as he was still a Jedi watchmen of that area as well as a wise, respected, and almost needed leader.
The next few years Salik learned a lot from Kashish dealing with governmental issues, turf wars, smuggling rings, to even right out assassination defense against major leaders and speakers. Out in this neck of the Galaxy, Kashish began to describe and teach Salik not simple in the jedi arts, but described and tought him about the “Unifying Force” a philosophy that the force is not broken into simple light and dark. “The Force is living, all around us and flowing: It is our minds that Box it in.” These wise words were the final statement in many of his lessons, and left an ever-lasting impression on Salik.
By the time Salik was 16, Kashish was simply acting as a guide, an over watch (they joked about him being the “watchmen.” ) for the growing Salik. His many missions, charges, and exercises allways seemed to have an importance of “looking outside the box” and “freeing his mind.” The hardest lesson involved punishing and committing someone to the death penalty, in which Kashish simple said “To be of the Force means to do the right thing, even when it is not the easiest thing to do. He had killed several, and was looking to kill more and himself. By choosing when and where, you effectively saved tens, maybe even hundreds of people. Death is natural, as is the force. Accept it, but done be consumed by it.”
After his many successful missions, Salik was then called back to the temple on Coruscant to undertake the Knighthood trials. Being successful, Salik was given the title of Jedi Knight. He was then taken from the care of Kashish and put under the tutelage of the Council of first knowledge to train to become a Jedi Shadow, as they took interest in his talents that he had used ever since he was a kid on Furia. He showed exceptional promise, and was finally was given the title and job.
He made many journeys, not really running into many Sith as he did collecting/destroying artifacts. He traveled to many star systems, observing the culture and traditions of each unique group as he went along his way. He was one of the few Jedi ever to be so lucky as to meet with the Fallanasi and Ang-tii, as well as travel to the ruins of Zenoma Sekot. Finally, as it seemed, he would return to Furia for a relaxing, easy mission and catch up with his old Master Kashish. Unfortunately, this never occurred. The artifact he had had been told to destroy was there alright, along with a Master Sith and his apprentice. Salik and Kashish entered combat, utilizing their lightsabers and the force to combat them. Salik dispatched the apprentice rather quickly, but as he adverted his attention to his former master and friend he watched as his lightsaber failed and the Sith’s blade carved deaply into his left side of the body. Enraged, Salik entered combat with the faster, utilizing the force mainly to defeat him. As the final blow was about to be struck, Salik heard Hashish’s voice speak a true, resonating sentence. “No! Don’t strike him down in anger! Power through Serenity Salik…let go….and Become the force…” Finally defeating his enemy, Salik gave Hashish his last good bye’s, and cremated him as a good Jedi deserved.
Returning to the Temple on Coruscant, Salik Gave his report and the council deemed him worthy of the title of Master, as he would soon take a padawan learner under his belt and teach him the ways of the force. Determined to teach in the style Hashish had, Salik also gave the vow to never let a weapon fail failure take anyone dear to him. On many of his remaining journeys, the Jedi Master would stop in and gather materials for a higher quality lightsaber, one that would never fail and always work in his favor. From now on, “The weapon didn’t make the jedi: The Jedi Make the weapon.”
