The addition that Ruby & Sapphire brought of Water/Ground types really made a good combo...
However.
I like Archeops from Pokemon Black&White because it is a Rock/Flying type. It has a s**t-ton of weaknesses. But, it gives it more range in what moves it can learn and more of an offensive STAB if you give it the right attacks.
Also. The Ghost/Fire - Chandelure Or Ghost/Dark Spiritomb which virtually has zero weaknesses due to its strategic typing.

i doubt your gen 1 game will work, most game boy games from that time the internal battier died years ago it happened to my silver. crying
