I would recommend Cardcaptor Sakura, Yotsuba&! and xxxHolic. xxxHolic is a supernatural story about a witch that grants wishes. It also includes a lot of references to Japanese food and culture. Yotsuba&! is a cute story about an unusually naive five year old girl, who enjoys everything. Cardcaptor Sakura (I'm sure you've heard of it, or even read it) is about Sakura, a magical girl who must collect the Clow Cards.

I've never read Ouran High School Host Club, but it doesn't seem appealing to me. It appears to be a reverse-harem type series, which I have very little interest to me.

Oh, no no no, Ouran is so much more than that! It's basically a subversion of the whole reverse-harem genre. Haruhi is lovely and snarky and Does Not Care About The Boys' Tomfoolery. It is seriously one of the best shojo manga released in English. It's up there with Fruits Basket and Skip Beat, in my mind. I would really suggest at least giving it a try. If not the manga, than the anime is also spectacular, and I think Funimation has most (if not all) of the episodes. ...and wow, way to jump into the conversation, self. xp In all seriousness, clover122theanimemix, you're already doing pretty well if you have all of Fruits Basket. I've been hearing that certain volumes of that series are getting really hard to find. Do you have any specific traits you look for in your series? I could just recommend my favorite stuff, but if you could narrow it down, that would be helpful. ^_^;

Your suggestions have never led me astray in the past : ) It probably doesn't really help that one of the biggest manga fans I know in real life is a guy, and scoffs at things like that (you should have seen his reaction when he caught me reading Gentlemen's Alliance).

It's funny you should say that, because Ouran is actually one of those rare shojo series that most guys really like--- as soon as they finally sit down and read/watch it. xD It went over well in our mixed-gender anime club, and my little brother (age 13) is reading and liking it right now (though he thinks the covers are "embarrassingly girly"). It helps that the series really doesn't focus on romance until very close to the end, so it's basically just a comedy with a bunch of cute guys (Haruhi herself is almost always the Straight Man to their wacky shenanigans). And while I'm recommending comedy-shojo, you should look at Oresama Teacher, Love Com, and Butterflies, Flowers as well! Those are all really entertaining, if for different reasons. lol
