Introduction/Table of Contents
This will sort of be a reverse version of the little mermaid, although it will be a little more complicated and less disney-ified. xD
The neighbouring countries of Rohn and Fulset have been fighting on and off for the last two centuries, arguments concerning the official boundary between their countries, fishing rights in Lisova Bay, and tariffs, imports, exports, and trade turning into open battle. Rohn is a country rich in lumber and fertile land for growing crops, and Fulset is filled with precious metals, rocks and minerals. Forced to depend on each other for important goods, the two countries are, nevertheless, constantly at each other's throats, vying for political power and supremacy over land and sea.
Amidst their battles, the merpeople of Merona have suffered as marine warfare commences, countless ships capsizing and killing the larger fish, sea animals, and even a few of the generally elusive merpeople who were taken unawares. Along with that, the fishermen of Lisova Bay have been known to catch mermaids on accident as they haul in huge nets of fish from the sea. Thus the last few generations of merpeople have been taught to hate and fear the humans who cause so much destruction without even realising it.
Now Rohn and Fulset are attempting to put their differences aside by uniting their countries with a royal marriage, and one young merman, the only prince among a family of princesses, becomes enamored with the world above, believing that humans can't truly be all bad. What will happen in this tangled love story?

Rules:
Blah, do I really need rules? I mean, we're all literate roleplayers right? Alright, fine. I suppose I'll put some up.
1. Everyone here is literate and knows basically what that means so I'll leave it at this: this site is PG-13 so keep things that way.
2. Pm me the character profiles and wait for my approval before posting them in the Profiles thread.
3. I'd prefer to have at least 2 well thought-out paragraphs which contribute to the continuation of the rp per post, but when you're having trouble with school or writer's block, I would like for you to post something short that doesn't necessarily move the story along rather than not posting at all.
4. Since this is my rp and you're signing up for it, I reserve the right to bug you like crazy about your posts, profiles, etc... when I think your writing isn't quite up to par or your posts come few and far in between.
4. I think that's it, but I also reserve the right to change the rules as I please, though I'll try to tell you in advance of an changes (There aren't likely to be any though).

 ----------The Characters:-----There will be six playable characters whose descriptions are given below. If you are interested in playing one of the characters, please fill out a profile skeleton. These descriptions are merely guidelines to approximately how I would like the characters personalities to be. You do NOT have to follow the guidelines precisely, and you are welcome to add your own interpretations to these characters. (By the way, all of the characters will end up on land, the mermaid friend will change with the prince and the sea witch will change herself to wreak havoc upon the other poor unsuspecting characters)
-----Winsome Princess: As long as she has been alive, the Winsome Princess has always been aware of duty to her crown and her people. She knows very well that she will be forced to marry for the sake of her country, forced to form a political marriage to better serve her people. Still, this hasn’t stopped her from hoping and dreaming that she will someday find true love to sweep her off her feet.
-----Devoted Knight: From birth, the devoted knight has been trained to protect his princess from all possible harm. His parents, both honorable people and loyal subjects of the king and queen instilled in him the same values of honesty and loyalty to the princess. He has always been by her side, fighting her battles and championing her causes. Though he will never tell her for fear of burdening her, he loves the princess dearly, as far more than a mere protector, and would do anything for her, up to and including giving his own life up.
-----Arrogant Prince: The Arrogant Prince comes from the nearest neighbouring country, a country which the Winsome Princess's land has been in an on-and-off war with for the last century. He is sent to the Winsome Princess's castle with the intention of forming an arranged marriage between the two to unite their lands and end the wars between them. Because of his good looks, he has always been spoiled and has a strong feeling of entitlement with the arrogance to match.
-----Daydreaming Merman: The prince of the sea has always been a romantic dreaming of a world beyond the one he knows so well. He has never known hardship and very little of the sense of duty the Winsome Princess has. The youngest child, with five elder sisters, the prince has been pampered and has had no notions of political marriage nor of sacrifice for the sake of his people (Wow, he really lives the good life, right?) In short, he’s pretty much a useless fob with only ideals of romanticism.
-----Cynical Merfriend: This mermaid is one of the prince’s greatest friends despite the fact that she has lived with few of the amenities that the prince takes for granted. Unlike the prince, she is realistic to the degree that many would call her pessimistic. They're so different that many wonder why they're even friends, but she is the anchor that keeps him from drifting: keeping him safe and protecting his soul. In truth, without her he would never have been able to continue his dreaming.
-----The Lonely Seawitch: Despite the incredible beauty of the form of her top half, the Seawitch was born with a bottom half which was very different from the beautiful fish fins of the merpeople. (I'll let you pick her bottom half. Squid, octopus, shark, whatever...) Shunned by the shallow people who valued beauty and conformity above all else, she is lonely though her jaded nature refuses to admit her weakness.
