A while back THE SECRET OF ARRIETTY was playing in theaters in the USA. Did anyone get a chance to see it? I have it on preorder for DVD... i did get to see it (jap version) before hand --- LOVED it.

I didn't have the chance to see it in the cinema..
But I guess I'm just gonna buy it on DVD XD

If you had to make a top 3 of Ghibli films, would Arriety be in it?

That's so tricky... but lately I have been contemplating that.

My Fav: Whispers of the Heart, Spirited Away, Arrietty... gah~~~~ no, i love them all, but that was what I instinctively put out so lets go with that.

Haven't seen Whispers of the Heart yet..
That's the anime that inspired The Cat Returns, right?

And, if we continue with tough questions: what makes Arrietty a good new Ghibli? wink

*my dvd of Arrietty was just shipped today >.<

The film hits on the 'classic' themes of Ghibli: Gorgeous hand-drawn animation with water-colored landscapes; a strong connection to the natural world; a pacifistic inclination towards resolving conflicts by means other than violence; a strong female protagonist who is also a child... even though there isn't any romance or strong elements of magic, i liked that the world within Arreitty was familiar to lifestyle found at my own home ---
...and that, I thought, was what was so strong about ARRIETTY --- it's much more quiet, approachable, and almost has a languid feel. It reminded me greatly of the natural magic of Totoro.

...and I can't wait to revisit the film when i recieve my dvd --- i have only seen it in Japanese, so the english dub with be a whole new experience!

The Secret World of Arrietty (Is the title that or just Arrietty?) was actually my first Studio Ghibli movie I had ever watched. It was so good yet so sad... I watched it after a few days it came to the US.
