Marcus had a dilemma. He had money for the wedding, but… It wasn’t exactly a whole lot. The most went into the rings, the rest was more or less for things like a tux, a cake, the church. It all added up and Marcus really didn’t want to ‘skimp’. Granted they were doing what amounted to in some senses a shotgun wedding, but he wanted it to be nice. He wanted it to be as normal as possible. Traditional even. Wedding were just… expensive. He didn’t want to ask for money, he wanted to pay his own way. It was a fairly stupid thing and Dis even told him as much but Marcus was prideful. He had his pride and he also didn’t like the idea of asking friends to pay for something for him and Cass. It felt like an abuse of said friendship. He needed to just earn more cash he rationalized. Maybe see if he would take a few extra duties and missions for a small bonus or an advancement. There was only really one person to ask so, as wary as he was, he sent the text. lizbot Miss Carr, if you have time could I meet with you?

The text got a prompt reply back. lizbot I'm at the main building, just around the corner from the cafeteria. Do you have an office where I should meet you?

Moments later Edith's voice responded dryly, "My office is wherever I happen to be, Mister Hassan." The division leader was dressed in camouflage pants and a white tank top. Despite her petite frame, muscles corded every visible inch as she hunkered against the wall in a comfortable crouch. In her hands she held a box of twinkies and a bottle of tabasco sauce. "So step on in and tell me what you need."

The voice made him jump and bit spinning to look at his division leader with a curious glance. Twinkies and tabasco? Well, he's once eaten an elephant eat with mayo. Who was he to judge?
"Well, um-" The hall was a bit informal, but, she was the boss really. "I know we get paid each month and everything and I'm really grateful for that but...I was wondering if there was anyway that I might be able to earn some extra cash next month? Nothing long term, just a few odds and ends maybe? I ah.. I'm trying to save for something."
He felt awkward. Mostly as, "I don't want to be borrowing money from anyone if I can avoid it."

The small black woman nodded along and pulled out a small hypodermic needle, uncapping it, she glanced at Marcus, "Life labs don't keep nearly enough tabs on their equipment." Opening the tabasco she plunged the needle into the top and drew out 30 cc's of hot sauce. Without looking away from this important procedure, she went on, "How much extra cash?"

Well, that was one way to add flavor. Somewhere, he was sure some poor lab hunter was throwing a fit over a needle. Only not really. They would probably just blame Robert. It seemed like a pretty logical step.
"To be completely honest, as much as humanly and reasonably possible. Given our salaries, my guess would be one to two hundred dollars is all about what I'd be able to earn, but really, anything would help. I've spent almost..everything on the wedding and I kind want to get a bit of a head start on what..come after."

"Oh, a wedding, huh?" She jabbed the needle into the twinkie, injecting it with the hot sauce, "Would be a bad idea to start that out in the debt." She nodded again and then shoved the whole snack into her mouth. For several long moments she just chewed, expression thoughtful despite her bulging cheeks. Finally she swallowed the last of it down, and began the same process over again.
"Alright, normally we only give this sort of thing to full hunters. But I've looked over your records, and you're pretty close anyway." Once again she filled the needle with tabasco. Was she planning on doing this with the entire box? "Running a place like this isn't exactly cheap, and it's not like the Deus cause is all that profitable. But...as hunters we have certain advantages over normal humans, so we take on more civilian jobs from time to time. The island takes half, you keep the rest."
She injected her next twinkie but refrained from eating it long enough to elaborate further, "There's two types of missions. First is the mercenary sort. Sometimes your the hero, other times not so much. Good, reliable pay, occasionally morally questionable, and the dangers are no big deal for a hunter. The other type is finding treasure, your Indiana Jones type s**t. Bigger dangers, fewer dicks in suits. Questionable pay. You might come out with riches...you may come out at a loss, you may not come out at all. It's a gamble." She shoved the treat into her mouth and gave him an expectant look.

She was going to eat the whole box wasn't she? Probably. She's got the build that she'll probably go work it off by punching bricks into shapes. Nice leader you have Marcus. The moon hunter ignored Dis as he went into how Cass might look like that if she started going to the gym with him. The news that he was apparently close to becoming a full, no longer trainee hunter, was a bit of a shock but it was a kind of nice to hear. He doubted they would promote him if he wasn't ready, so even if he was being considered, that was a good sign wasn't it? He hoped as much.
"That's... well aside from the first time I've heard of it, it's more than fair, given that Deus ex is our home and we do have a habit of.. breaking things." Like the kitchen. And the bathroom. And the whole island.
The option of what type of mission he could take were not really the most appealing, but, when was anything. One sounded like as a moon hunter, he'd be playing bodyguard; just what he'd been doing only for less savory characters. Finding treasure was... Risky, and the chance he might not get paid at all. He was wanting to marry Cass so soon in part, because of that fear of nothing able to so. Dis crept back to the front of his thoughts.
You won't take the treasure hunt. Why not? I won't let you. You were trained to follow orders, to keep people alive as commanded. A darker touch, a thought he hadn't brought back for a long time. You were raised to do whatever it took to survive. To get what you want in the end. You will be the mercenary Marcus, because it is something you already know how to be.
As much as Marcus didn't want to admit it, that was true enough. He'd do it because he knew he simply could. "I could deal with dicks in suits. Treasure hunting isn't.. something I think I would do well in. But following orders and doing what is needed is something I can do." He nodded, mind made up. "I would guess that since I'm a moon, my job would mostly be body guard work?"

Edith nodded again as she prepared her third one, "A lot of body guard work. Sometimes you do some heroic s**t like protect villages in third world countries, rescue POWs, seel Girl Scout Cookies...that sort of thing. But mostly you just guard people who, in the process of gaining a great deal of wealth and power, also happened to gain small armies who bone up at the thought of killing them in a multitude of ways." She paused a moment, in serious consideration, and then finally held up the twinkie to Marcus, "You want one?"

Marcus liked the idea of being a hero, but, it wasn't a priority. Staying alive usually was. Besides, he was pretty sure girl scouts would chase him off. He'd stolen boxes from the as a kid. Angry troop leaders and moms did not react kindly to 'steal the cookies' dares. Granted they'd never been caught, but he say they way they had looked at him. They just knew.
"Morally questionable, but rather profitable. That's usually how it is though." He shrugged before looking down at the tabasco injected twinkie.
Julie offered food and there had been nasty results. But that was because she had added god only knew what to it. This was... tabasco in a twinkie. He'd had mayo on an elephant ear once. "Sure." He would try it, what was the worse that could happen?

Edith's expression fell slightly, but then she apparently remembered that she still had over half a box left and was able to bring herself to hand it over. "It's best to eat them in one go, and quickly, otherwise you've got a soggy piece of mess on your hands." The division leader stared expectantly at him.

You offered Edith, you offered. Raising en eyebrow at her advice he heard Dis telling him to swallow it down, work on that gag reflex.
No thanks Dis. No. Thanks. I'm just saying... NO. Fun sucker.
That he was. Shoving it into his mouth everything was fine for a few seconds. Then? A very weird burning spice, he swallowed almost immediately, mouth asking his brain 'WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?' He blinked a few times, trying to not make a face but failing. It was more a shock than anything. "Wow that was uh-" he blinked again, mouth still slightly protesting what he'd just consumed, "-interesting. But, for the jobs, what will I need to do? like, do I sign up anywhere? Is there someone in charge I need to go talk to?"

Eyes narrowing at the way Marcus seemed to enjoy the snack a little too much, Edith picked up the twinkie box and stood up, just in case he was thinking of asking for another one. "Don't worry about that. Like I said, it's usually full hunters who get these, so I'll take care of the paperwork. You just be there when I give you the heads up."

He smiled. "Thank you, this.. it means a lot. I'll uh, be waiting for the text or call I guess." He looked at her twinkies. "I'll let you get back to what you were doing. Thanks again for meeting with me."
Not much left to say, the moon trainee bowed his head and went marching off to the dorms for yet another run to see if he couldn't clear out a few more monsters.
