User Image It seemed as though winter had lasted a long time this year. Although the sun rose each day to greet her, rarely had Threnah felt its warmth on her coat, too quickly was it whisked away in a windy tide. For a few days now, however, Threnah had noticed the winds dying down, replaced with a cool breeze and a gradual warming of the air. Summer had finally arrived.

Today Threnah awoke to the warm sun on her back and sighed blissfully. Feeling more relaxed than she had in months, she decided to stand and enjoy the sun a bit longer before seeking out breakfast. As she ate, her mind wandered out to the plains, forests, and mountains, places she had rarely, if ever, been. Most of her life had been spent right where she was, in Kawani Village, under the care of its kind people. She liked their soft voices and gentle hands, the constant bustle of people moving about, but always working together. They were, as it were, her herd. Gazing up into the mountains, she had to admit she felt a little lonely sometime without other Soquili friends.

Shaking off her thoughts, she finished her breakfast and wondered what to do with her fine day. With summer finally arriving, a trip to the beach sounded wonderful. Threnah headed that way.

Vanwyn shook out her feathers and mane, her body somewhat stiff now. She had left the Flock grounds around dawn, wanting to get a good sunbathing out by a cool river not far from their location. She drew some designs in the dirt near her clawed feet, before looking up toward the sky. The day was already disappearing. And she had promised to hunt even a little bit to get some food for some of the other sisters within the Flock. Her ears perked some, before the mare let out a soft sigh, and slowly started to stand, careful of how she moved to ensure she didn't upset her lovely feathers and hair. Beauty was, after all, in their family bloodline.

Moving slowly, the mare ventured away from the river, and headed south, looking around for something to hunt. Something larger, this time. She and her Sisters had enjoyed rabbit for a few days now. It was time to venture and eat something a little larger, something that could satisfy more than one. Letting her bright eyes linger for a moment, the mare shook out her body, muscles twitching each time a bug dared to land along her body. He dipped her head down, sniffing at the grass, trying to pick up a trail, but instead, smelled something that was foreign to her lands. There was another horse around her?

The mare frowned some, before lifting her head once more. Vanwyn wasn't used to other horses venturing this close. And where she knew she was farther away fro the Flock than normal, it was still odd. It only took her a moment to locate the other mare not far ahead. At least it was a female, and not a dangerous one at that. Jumping to the trees, Vanwyn moved quickly, her claws scraping at the trunks and branches as she moved, before she landed closer to the other mare, her body the ever graceful that it always was. "Hello there.." She said, her voice as lovely as a birds.

Threnah was making her away around E-qua U-na-de-li-i from the forest end of Kawani village, headed toward the beach. She was chucking at some Kawani children at play near a teepee in the distance when she heard a sound. Turning her head, she didn't see anything at first but a flash of green among the green. Or was that blue? Since when were trees blue? The sound of something scraping against park had her turning in a circle. Finally, she saw the Soquili that followed her, though it was unlike any Soquili she'd seen before (her experience admittedly limited). The lovely creature seemed to be something between a bird and a Soquili. Although it had no wings, she seemed to fly through the trees.

Threnah couldn't help but back up a few steps in surprise when the Soquili stopped near her. She stared at the lovely gold chains and jewels that hung gracefully over the female's form. At the other Soq'a greeting, Threnah tried to collect herself but only managed a startled, "H-Hello."

The harpy blinked, her ears perked up some as she looked over the normal breed. She had seen many of them before, and as this was, the female was the same as the others. Tilting her head some, Vanwyn let out a small chirp of curiosity, before tilting her head to the side. What was this female doing out here? Wasn't she supposed to be within the Flock grounds? Of course, Vanwyn had learned that not everyone was Flock material. Maybe this was one of the weaker females who wouldn't fit it. Staring rather curiously, the harpy shifted and moved around her, the claws lightly clicking against the ground when they touched.

"What are you doing?" She asked, her voice as sweet as honey

Threnah found herself feeling a little cornered by the strange female. Although she still had freedom at her back, there was something in the beautiful creature's eyes that made her feel like one of the insects the Kawani children would often peer at and poke with sticks.

Threnah's attention was drawn back to the Soq's face as she heard the question. She gestured with her head to the imagined path before her, "I'm going to the beach." Her eyes roamed over the lovely feathers in the Soquili's mane, then returned to her attention to her face, "Would you like to join me?"

Vanwyn blinked, her head cocking to the side. She let her ears perk up at the sound of the females voice. A beach? A frown moved over her features. She wasn't sure what a beach was exactly. Last time she has ventured to an unknown location, it was a swamp. But a... a beach? That didn't sound familiar to her. Letting her head tilt to the side, she thought slowly, before shaking her head. No, no she couldn't think of anything that resembled beach in her mind. Well, why not do something different then?

Looking up, Vanwyn smiled some, her tail giving a slight flick, before she nodded, and looked toward the location that Threnah had pointed to with her nose. "Sure.. I don't think I've ever been to a beach.." She stated, her eyes thoughtful, yet excited.

Threnah smiled, and stood up a little straighter. She was surprised to hear the other Soquili had never been to a beach. To Threnah, it was a normal thing. Was there really something she knew about that this worldly-looking female did not? For Threnah, whom had not been to many new places or done many new things, it was a unique position.

"Great! I'd love the company. By the way... um, what's your name?" Her tail swayed back and forth.

Vanwyn blinked, her eyes flickering. She wandered what a beach was. Her brain continued to search for the answer, but nothing came to mind. Shaking her head some, she glanced toward Threnah. Her ears perked slightly, before the mare let out a slight chirp, and then answered, her voice as sweet as honey. "Vanwyn. And yours?" She asked.

"I'm Threnah. The beach is this way." Threnah turned away from Vanwyn and started to walk along in the direction she had originally been headed, around E-qua U-na-de-li-i and toward the beach. She remembered a conversation she had had with one of the few other Soquili she had met, a foal named Alex. "By the way... you are not afraid of two-leggers, are you? We might get near some, as we pass by the village on our way to the beach."

Vanwyn stopped short, her ears perked. She stared toward the mare curiously, before trying to think. The Flock never went near humans. It wasn't a good idea, usually because they looked so different, that rumor had it they were either killed or captured. And as a Harpy, she refused to be captured. Shaking her head some, causing her hair and feathers to shift and ruffle, she took a half step back, her eyes hard. She couldn't go around two-leggers. There was no way she could. It could risk her life, and she had a family back in the Flock that she would have to go back to. It wasn't the wisest idea to go near a village. Twitching her nose slightly, Vanwyn shook her head. "I can't. Two-leggers are dangerous." She stated matter-of-factly.

x blame it on the --- x

Threnah titlted her head at Vanwyn curiously. She had heard this argument before, from Alex. It still baffled her. All her life she had been raised and cared for by the natives of Kawani Village. Never had she felt threatened in the least.

However, not wanting her new acquaintance to leave or feel uncomfortable, Threnah tried to puzzle out a way to get to the beach without passing too closely to the two ledgers. She glanced out at the water, then to the right toward the village. Hmm... there was only one path to the beach, and it went right past the village.. unless...

Looking back at Vanwyn, Threnah asked hopefully, "Can you swim?"

Vanwyn blinked, her eyes locked on the mare. She glanced back toward the village, toward the people. Flicking an ear, the Harpy shifted on her clawed feet. She let out a half chirp, eyes curious, before taking a step back, and then looked toward Threnah again, blinking those falcon like eyes at her. Swim? She tilted her eyes down toward the ground in thought. She had never swam before. She was, after all, a Harpy. Birds were meant to be in the sky, not the water.

"I... do not think so. I can climb trees very well though. But swimming... It would ruin my mane and feathers." She said matter-of-factly. She was the daughter of Vanya, after all. Beauty was one of the highest priorities.

Threnah tried not to squint at Vanwyn, but she was having a hard time. Climb trees? Such an idea seemed impossible to the flatfooted mare. She might as well have suggested they fly to the moon.

Glancing at the water and back at Vanwyn's feathers, she was not convinced that any damage would come to her from a little water. It just seemed silly, to Threnah, avoiding the cool, clear, refreshing water to protect one's coat. However, not wishing to offend her new acquaintance, Threnah decided to leave that for later. For now, she still wanted to get to the beach. The sun was rising steadily by now, and soon the sand on the beach would be nice and warm.

But now, how to get there? Follow the coast by the village was out, as well as taking a shortcut through the water. That only left...

Threnah brightened, "Climb trees, you say? I've an idea. The forest here," she gestured with her nose to their right, "extends down to the coast, behind the village, and ends just short of the beach. We shouldn't run into any two-leggers that way." Well, there were some two-leggers that lived in the forrest, as well as a few that lived toward the tip of the peninsula, but not many. Threnah certainly didn't wish to frighten Vanwyn by mentioned it; it shouldn't be a problem. "What do you say we race there?" She smiled broadly, "You take the trees, and I'll take the ground."

Vanwyn's head cocked with interest. A race? She frowned some though, eyes curiously peering toward the way she had come. From home. She tilted her head. Her family would expect her back within the moon cycle; not later. Honestly, she had already traveled far too far from home. She knew that she was going to need to get back.. Honestly. She slightly worried that her family would come looking for her soon. She was never that far away from her family. That alone, she had also left Honovi there alone. And where she knew he was safe, and wouldn't do anything wrong, she wanted to return to him soon, rather than take more time so far away.

But curiosity was something that Vanwyn never really had a good hold of.

Wiggling her ears some, she nods her head, her claws scraping at the ground. "All right. Bu I warn you, we Harpies are faster than land walkers." She stated matter-of-factly. It had been proven to her on multiple occasions. There were times that males ran, and the Harpies gave chase. They had never lost a catch. Moving toward the trees, she took to a small jog, before running, and jumped, her claws slamming against one tree trunk, before pressing off, and into the branches of another, holding herself on the high, thick limbs of the tree. "Just tell me when, land walker." She said, grinning toward her.
